It’s a weird one that as we definitely deserved something from that game but I also agree with the chesterfield fans about the ref he gave us a lot and that was never a second yellow card either.
Performance wise though I thought we looked very good in patches going forward but clear for all to see that our defence is going to cost us dearly this season and that keeper needs binning off asap, out of 5 games so far he’s dropped 3 massive clangers and that’s just too many mistakes, the other 2 didn’t cost us but that’s cost us massively today.

Harry Smith has just tried to argue against his sending off having nearly taken the Barrow's player head off with an outrageous swinging elbow at a corner.
got sent off for violent conduct last season playing here for Sutton too.
Notts fans will be glad to know he got plenty of "Jazz hands" as he walked off.....

Well hello Mr Abbott. Captained Spurs U21s you say? Represented your country at U18s too?

We'll take him.

Tbh we needed him to impress on his first start and we needed old man McGoldrick to once again remind the lower leagues how good he was today. Yes it was a very favourable fixture on paper and we were playing absolute rabble at marvellous Meadow Lane but without 5 starters, 4 of which form our impressive attack that win is fantastic. Should have been more than the very professional 2-0 it ended up being.

Surely my Gambian Prince will be on the bench for next game? Palmer to start soon? No idea about Jones and Crowley's niggles. Robertson is probably the longer term one and he's needed away from home as we all saw when out played at Swindon.

Back in the car.

A very mixed game at Chesterfield, Grimsby by far the better side until Chesterfield scored, then added a 2nd due to some ridiculously hesitant defending.
Got one back with an excellent goal from distance.

Second yellow for the Chesterfield midfielder was ridiculous from the ref, who must have booked half the players, and the benches, and most of which were just being over officious.
Having said that players from both sides went down far too easily, some of the Chesterfield dives, were theatrical in the extreme. All stems from the so called ‘experts’ on TV pushing the merit of ‘if you feel contact, or that there may be contact” you go down. My pet hate. Players embarrassing themselves and getting fellow pros into trouble. Plainly and simply, it is cheating. Having said the guy who got the red was very unfortunate, he could have got a second yellow earlier as could the other grizzly Adam’s look alike.

How on earth did the Chesterfield striker miss that sitter when he hit the bar from 6 yards? That wasn’t unlucky, it was a shockingly bad finish. Didn’t think it was a penalty in the slightest as keeper got to the ball 1st and had Grigg been an away player, he could have seen a straight red for endangering an opponent.

Overall not sure Chesterfield deserved the 3 points but after their fall out when they lost at Gillingham last week, they will no doubt believe it is justice.

On that showing I can only see two mid table finishes for both of these teams

all these l2 refs have a bad case of main character syndrome

I think the L2 refs have been completely fine in our 5 matches so far.

Which I'm suprised at because when we were last in this league just 2 seasons ago they were terrible. Maybe you've just had all the shit ones ref you.

you fear for Swindon for the next few weeks. Smith will be out for 3 games and Glatzel went off with a concussion injury - so he'll also be out for 2 weeks and they had 2 defenders subbed off injured in the 1st half.

Good set of lads on here but for the Twitter Carlisle virgins you can stick your racist chants, your fireworks, your pitch invasions, your crap rivalry and that referee today right up your arse.

Anyway the game…

Thought Grimsby started very bright. Pressed us very well for the first 20/25 mins or so and suffocated us a bit, whilst playing some nice stuff themselves. We started to deal with the press a lot better from that point though and I thought after that we had the better of the first half after we managed to get our wide men into the game more, and grabbed a couple of goals as a result.

2nd half pointless talking about really as the referee made it all about himself and we were then having to defend with 10 men for the final 30 minutes. I actually thought Cook’s change to the back 3 after the red won us that game, as Grimsby didn’t really have a clue how to break it down and I can’t say I really had my heart in my mouth at any point, they didn’t really create any big chances.

After last weeks injustice, I’ll take a win like that any day of the week. Takes us another week closer to the return of more key men like Colclough & Madden, and Dunkley’s served his one game ban now so will be back for Vale away next week.

We were awful again and Bradford weren't anything much but had a striker who was able put his chances away.

Wait until you see our goal which is a real clanger from the Bradford keeper.
Thought you actually played some good stuff and moved forward with purpose. You didn't really manage to score though and looked shaky at the back. As the season settles, the goals will come. Worryingly, that's 2 clangers in 2 games our goalie has made but he is a good goalie and should be able to put those behind him.

I thought Grimsby could have poured it on a bit more following the red to be honest. They had some half chances but I think we had the better ones after going down a man, hitting the post twice. Grigg is starting to cut a bit of a frustrated figure up front. I will absolutely take that win and feel grateful for it because we're still not quite at it yet. As for Grimsby, I didn't think they were terrible, but I would be annoyed at that performance if I was them, and if that's kind of what it's like most weeks you worry what end of the table they might be at come the end

We will be fine, we are aiming for mid table and that's exactly were we will finish, if we could stop stupid defensive errors we may even approach 10th
What has happened to the standard of officiating in this league? It's absolutely ridiculous. It's no better than the national league and arguably worse.

Told you the other week any decent ref these days immediately goes to the premier league to watch videos in some back room.

Would you like Harry Lewis back?

He made a couple of good saves today but overall am happy with our present goalie. It's the ones in front of him that concern me.

Agree with that we will be fine , the league isn't as strong as last season and we are better . It won't be fun for the more volatile section of the fanbase as it's pretty clear we will lose a lot but also win a fair few ; can't see us drawing too many this time out - Thompson being back in a couple of weeks will be massive aswell and add some much needed physicality in the middle of the park

We were poor again today, especially first half, but can't knock another last minute winner. 3 of our 5 games have now been won/lost in added time.

A woeful afternoon, defence down to the bare bones before today. Then get 2CBs sent off and right back injured. Vale were decent but we made it easy - Stockley ran riot, good player still. Couldn’t see the 1at red card incident,2nd red Jameson got pissed off with a fat lad in the Vale end who kept throwing the spare ball back on preventing our throw in. Straight red seemed harsh.

Very fair review imo. Like most sides ( I expect? ) we too have key men missing. The spine of our team missing. We did ok today but 3 or 4 had quite games. More to come I have no doubt

I think you're absolutely right there about the refs. Wank really. And yeah a safe mid table finish for you should be easy enough, just need to cut out those errors, both our goals today were avoidable. I've said all along a top half finish in our first season back would be a success and I stand by that. never understood the bookies having us favourites, I suspect it's Stockport and Wrexham fresh in their mind. It's hard to say exactly where we are right now, it all looks a bit disjointed but we've players to come back and we've kept some squad spots open for free agents though so we'll see what comes of that. If we can somehow persuade Fleck to sign then him and Naylor in the middle would be stronk.

My review of our game is my review of the season.

Probably the better side on balance, playing better football than the opposition yet we can always count on one of two leaving their brains in the dressing room and we end up losing when we shouldn’t.

In Notts & Chesterfield you have two games we can count ourselves unfortunate in places, but today was all our own doing as opposed to a ref.

One thing I will say though, I’d take watching the last 2 games every week and mid table as opposed to the turgid shite we’ve been dished up by Hurst over the past few years

That is a very generous review of the game against Notts, if we’re being honest.

A scrappy, ugly performance and win from the Alex, who get their first home goal and first home win since March. Morecambe were a typical L2 side, get the big men on and launch it up top every chance they get. Very little quality to their play.

We were pretty turgid for the most part and got a soft penalty for what turned out to be the game winner. Not sure how long Bell can keep playing this 5-3-2 system, as it's hard to watch most of the time.

Still, a wins a win and we're now on more points after 5 games this season than we were last season, so I'll take it. Got more winnable games coming up, hopefully they can keep grabbing points whilst they build confidence and some style.

The game was over as soon as you were gifted two goals by the ref, the 3rd was a cross that looped in and the 4th a deflected shot that did the same. We’d do well to concede 4 of them all season, never mind in one game.

He said unfortunate in places

in places the keyword, and you can't deny all four goals were fortunate, despite being the far better side and deserving to win, but goals change games.
