I’ve never seen another goalkeeper pick up their own goal kick before or since, let alone get sent off for it. The fuck was I meant to know!?
Have you seen a keeper handle the ball illegally, denying a goalscoring opportunity?

Seems fairly obvious to me. :ffs:

Don’t know what to expect from Port Vale at home tomorrow. Be great to win it Greek style for George Baldock but sense a draw or loss. Club is on a bit of a downer in general this week after the news, despite an obvious uptick in form under Lindsey.

Don’t think I have ever seen our former chairman Pete Winkelman get so emotional over anything!

Feels like the Football Gods will be looking to atone for the 3 games in the NL, if so a nailed on home victory.

We’ve got a very good away record so far, but then we haven’t really played anyone yet so a draw would definitely do. A Cook v Maynard matchup isn’t one I particularly fancy tbh. A bad defeat and some might be thinking about dusting off those bedsheets again. (Me included).

Green injured yesterday then? Not mentioned in the DA interview yesterday - all the talk about him was his no. of yellow cards.
Artell didn’t mention Jordan Wrights dislocated shoulder for several days. He hasn’t mentioned Cam Gardner starting tomorrow either but let’s see about that

Why? How does our away kit clash with white?
No idea, talk was we wore it both times v Barrow to do with a clash if colourblind I’m sure I read and they wear white.

We’ve had some real bad memories in that, we’ve as many wins in the electric lime as we have in the blue which is in its second year and we’ve worn 19 times compared to 4!

If they do that would again be embarrassing

Carlisle at home - my first Wimbledon home match since Fleetwood at the end of August. Joe Lewis is out for 3-4 weeks after a horror tackle by a Salford player although Ryan Johnson might play a part.

Are any Carlisle supporters from this forum travelling down? I'll be selling programmes in the away end so do stop and say hello.

Rovers v Bantams. Unlike others, our injury crisis seems to be easing and Adkins will have the strongest squad to pick from so far this season. A decent performance in the Motors Cup v Accrington, with both scorers Josh Hawkes and Sam Taylor catching the eye and I’d hope Sam does get a start given how, barring Patrick, the other forwards haven’t been much of a threat. Probably sticking with 3 at the back, given Bradford play a similar formation. Brad Walker likely to come into the back three after a return to fitness.

It’s a hard game to call. Andy Cook invariably scores against us and the visitors had a good win against Newport last time out. All results on the table here, but a score-draw the most likely outcome.

I would have (I did last time), but with the uncertainty surrounding it going ahead or not, and the fact our squad is absolutely ravaged with injuries, I decided this is a good one to swerve. It is going to be a painful watch on sky sports.

Sports Science has never been more developed. The pitches are miles better and there is less physical contact, hard tackles being much severley punished etc.

But undoubetdly, there are more injuries in modern football. The Premier League teams have lots of injuries when you look so it's not the quality in sports science.

I've been racking my brains on this issue for a couple of years now as we've suffered heavily from injuries over the past couple of seasons and one of my thoughts is that the strength and conditioning is tailored to turn the modern player into very good athletes (which they successfully do- the game has never been faster, the players are more dynamic)

However, this leads them to being like finely tuned cars. When they're 100% they run like a dream. But the moment something goes wrong, they're in the garage for weeks because it's harder to get them back up such a high quality standard.

A minor hamstring injury in old money, players would just play after a couple of weeks when the pain went away. Now it's all about "getting back on the grass", then "back training with the group" and box ticking until the player is 100%. This puts a fairly basic hamstring injury as always being like 4-6 weeks now.

So if anything, I would say the introduction of sports science at these levels has increased injury time periods. I get the argument it is probably better for players in later life etc particularly with knees and ankles etc.
Crazy isn't it.

When I started watching in the 60's the game was a lot more physical, maybe not as fast though. I remember having squads of about 16 players of first team players and nobody ever seemed to get injured, certainly not long term ones. I seen to recall the starting X1 barely changed all season.

I just don't see us going to another top tier team in this league and getting a result. I just think a combination of the occasion, the newish manager and the couple of key injuries means that we lose this one.

When I used to play football, I'd play through any little niggle or twinge but they simply won't these days.

I think sometimes nowadays there is massive over caution. Perhaps clubs are scared of being sued by players for playing them before they are ready.

He didn’t actually handle it did he thinking about it, he just booted it again. If you were there screaming for a red card at the time then fair play, you know the rules better than I do!

Anyway, fucking hate these early kick offs.

As for the early KO, it’s starting to feel like the ‘normal KO’ at home this season for us. This is our 4th home game that’s been moved from the 3pm slot and it’s only our 6th game!

A lot more confident of a result today with Adelakun being injured for Salford as he was bound to rip us a new 1 like mast season - reckon it will be a draw as we haven't had 1 yet

I was amazed in all honesty. Your keeper could have been sent off twice in that game. Doesn't fill me with confidence having the same fucking referee today. Closet notts fan.

Early kick off usually means a shite atmosphere as nobody has had as much beer. Hopefully won't be the case today. Also ruins away days as you end up spending your entire time in a 'spoons.

Yeah, not quite sure how Maynard Out can even be a distinct possibility at this stage, even if we lose today. He does have to start showing something in these big games though. If we start dropping like a stone purely because Jones is injured, it says a lot about him as a manager.

It's old news, we won and that can't take those memories away.

Even if given you would have still found a way to lose that day. It was written in the stars and the 23,000 strong were not to be denied.

A truly magical day.

Don't worry chap you will dominate and win and get a modicum of revenge in the early morning kick off.

Definitely going to watch the Chesterfield V Notts game should be a decent feisty game that , then watch ours, I went last year to Salford and it wasn't the best awayday although the result made up for it so thought this time save some dosh and watch it on the box .

Gardner is a massive talent can't imagine he will see out his contract here . A bit of a beast aswell i would almost be tempted to start him and just hold Rose back for off the bench .

It would be rare for Vale to go to two promotion candidates and win in a row, that said we were fairly good at it in the last two promotion seasons so if we want to live up to our expectations this season you’ve got to get results at teams likely to be up there with you.

If we do lose I just hope we don’t have the massive meltdown from the fan base… we’ve had a great run and things are looking good but will be bumps in the road but you just know OVF will be a meltdown tonight if we don’t get anything here.

It should actually be a decent football match shouldn't it ?

Both play it on the floor at least , it will probably just be a high octane out of character battle with me saying that .

Is that Jatta still out ? Useful him

No I agree, we’d have lost anyway because Notts fan Fitzsimons would have still found some way to get you back into it.

Heading over today?

Jatta will start, I’d hope with McGoldrick but doubt he’ll start after missing a couple of weeks.

I hope we go with this

Bass
Macari Platt Bedeau
Tsaroulla Palmer Robertson Gordon
Crowley Jatta Didzy

If Didzy can’t start then I’d play Martin or Brown over Austin or Abbott.

If we had Slocombe in goal for the penalty shoot you would have definitely won. Never seen him save a penalty whilst at the club.

No watching on TV due to supply versus demand issues.

That is the side I'd choose too with Crowley just behind the front two. But doubt McGoldrick will start and expect Abbott to play.

Yes I would never miss a game with niggles when I played.

In fact, no matter how much you might have been hurt by a late tackle for example, you just never showed that it hurt and just got on with and give the fella one back later in the game. It was just accepted, none of this rolling about on the floor nonsense
