What was that bloke who got held down even doing!?! They were trying to cut away from it on the tele but you could see a whole mass of fluorescent jackets desperately struggling with him.
From what I remember he was a big bald bloke offering out everyone that remained in the away end

Yeah, I reckon you lot can be forgiven for sinking down that extra level anyway. Glad you all had a lovely night, was a cracker of a match.

I guess Hull would be the equivalent for us?

Blundell Park pitch invasions I can remember off the top of my head in my life are:
Exeter '91: Last day auto promotion and my second ever match.
Spurs '06: League Cup 3rd (?) Round win.
Eastleigh '15: Playoff semi win before losing to Bristol Rovers in the final on sudden death.

I've probably missed one or two, I think?
Most of ours involve Sid as a lone invader, usually to throw his season ticket at David Holdsworth or Gary Simpson.

Beating Morecambe in the JPT to get to New Wembley for the first time I believe. I have thankfully never taken part in a pitch invasion.

I’m guessing that by pitch invasions were talking about after the full time whistle people going on as opposed to a few numpties running on the pitch to celebrate straight after a goal.

Did you not do one at Aldershot Saturday, first goal you’ve scored in a while.

It wasn’t possible, our fans were all too busy queueing up to go to the one toilet in the away end at the time.
Missed opportunity there if ever I saw one.

Should have paraded it on the pitch at the stroke of full time

It was mostly kids to be honest. It happens a lot at our place, the design of the Cheadle End, it's piss easy to just stand at the advertising hoardings and give the oppo goalie shit for example.

Not for me now but a young teenage Stocky would never be so immature and excitable...ahem...

It was obvious they were going to go on the pitch at FT and then the nature and lateness of the 5-3 Crankshaw goal which was a goal plus full time, game over double whammy. It was on the cards for both occasions.

We've got some great young fans who've stuck with us through some awful times.

It was daft and a bit tinpot but lets not get too Mary Whitehouse on it all.

Dunno who is to blame for this, either our ticket office for printing them or Solihull for sending them but I paid £2.50 delivery for an A4 print out of an e-ticket for Tuesday's match. Nice one.

Grimsby 4 Sheffield United 0 May 81...
Grimsby 3 Exeter 0 May May 72

I believe Grimsby fans once invaded the pitch at Burton not sure why...

"Stick the furlough in me pocket, I'll fetch the vaccines from the van..."

At least it should bust a few myths about us being loaded. Not the first time the fans have paid for important club infrastructure and it won't be the last.

Yeah it doesn't bother me personally. Voluntary, beneficial and we're doing well so best time to ask. Doubt we'll reach the 15k figure but asking for fans to contribute a few quid once a year or so isn't an issue.

You've spent good money on players though. You must have paid a fee for the lad from Solihull the other week as well. He was a starter for them, they're quite financially secure and they want to get in the play-offs. You'll have paid over the odds. Was a low key, casual big money move that.

Money must be coming from somewhere. Is it the Covid insurance thing? If so, fair enough, it is clever and is a real thing as I know Wimbledon (tennis tournament not FC) had it so were to be paid out for loss of earnings when they didn't play in 2020. I've heard of one or two others though who have it written in but the insurance companies are finding ways of stalling it and certainly not a case of lump sum in the bank, off you go.

I’m more surprised you don’t have them in the first place! i thought something so elementary was a standard.(probably like a 4th stand i suppose)

All lower leagues clubs will ask for help from fans from time to time, as you say good to ask now!

Probably the insurance company that they were so confident would pay out at the start of the season still haven't paid and won't for a while so suddenly short of cash until they do.

They need replacing as our former owners ran us into the ground. I've got no issues with this at all to be fair. We are run by a charity after all.

We have them but they're not big enough, we've still got the ones we had at Saltergate which had a smaller pitch.

It's not particularly clever, it was just a stroke of luck that their policy wording wasn't strong enough. Last I heard the claim had been accepted but yes there will be (will have been?) plenty of negotiation between the insurer's loss adjuster and our loss assessor. No idea if it's been paid, or if it's going to be in instalments, or even if the sum has been agreed yet but I suppose we'll find out when our accounts are released at the latest. Either way, we're owned by a charity full of local folk who care very much about the club, I'm confident they're not putting us at risk but no doubt some of the incredibly wise folk on here will know better.

It's not massively insightful to suggest investing in resources and infrastructure ahead of spunking loads of cash on wages and new signings is a better way to achieve long term sustainability as a football club. Trying to guilt trip your fans, who don't forget already put their money into the club for tickets & merchandise, into covering the cost of things pitch covers because you're doing well in the league is just embarrassing.

I don’t think they’re putting you at risk in the sense of having financial issues or anything - you’ve got yourself a £1mish asset apart from anything else plus likely something at least from this insurance claim. I do get the sense you’re all in on promotion this season though, probably more so than the other ‘big’ clubs in the division.

Now this is a guess, but I notice every time we've signed someone paying a transfer fee, it's been in proximity to a source of unbudgeted income e.g. Kabongoals = BI claim, Williams = FA Cup wins. Have we actually signed anyone else this season for cash? Someone will be along to correct me if there is, but I'm pretty sure everyone else was free / ooc.

On the contrary rather than a sign of an issue its building on the tremendous goodwill there is for the club. It's an unbudgeted expense but I'm sure it could be covered easily but why not let the fans support the club if they want to? They paid for the original ones and this helps fans feel they are contributing to the success of a community led club like Chesterfield.

To try and turn this into an issue shows how jealous and resentful other teams are of Chesterfield's success on and off the pitch.

Keep reaching boys!
