It's the bit where your club puts out tweets begging supporters for donations to buy stadium equipment, when reducing your wage bill by ~£300 p/w would be enough to foot the bill without going cap in hand to fans. Hardly suggests sustainable financial management.
Ah, right. Well, our friend Spire1866 has explained that in his informative post earlier;
When the Trust took over their was a big clamour from fans who had stayed away/NAPM etc saying how can we get involved/how can we support you etc outside of buying STs/going to games (which not everyone can do).
Glad we could address your concerns.

I don’t understand people getting annoyed at you for it but you’ve got to admit it’s very fucking funny.

‘Furlough Gate’ + 250k on a striker = looking like idiots when you beg for money to pay for a bit of tarpaulin
No one is begging for shit you lemon

This thread is almost as incredible as the quite tweets on twitter. I hope we go and sign someone this well now, will be half of Nottingham self combusting with rage.

We aren't skint, we don't need the money and last I heard our financial position was actually pretty solid given we're getting nearly 6k at home when we budgeted for 3.5-4k, have been on an unexpected cup run, are on the TV two more times next month etc.

When the Trust took over their was a big clamour from fans who had stayed away/NAPM etc saying how can we get involved/how can we support you etc outside of buying STs/going to games (which not everyone can do).

One of the things they said would help would be fan led fundraising schemes. We did one last year for some GPS training kit, we've done one for a statue of Ernie Moss and now we're doing on for some frost covers. If folk want to donate a few quid, let them, if they don't then so be it. Don't really think it makes much difference - it's just another opportunity for the fans to show support to the new owners and for them to enjoy the fruits of a positive bond with the fans but also the wider community.

The Trust are doing great things in the town outside of the football and their relationship is better than anyone ever imagined it could be. Whilst things are rosy they should ride the crest of the wave.

I heard next years fundraiser is for a private jet to fly to away games in style. Where can i send my tenner for that?!
That is going to be some grim-ass statue. Is it going to be there to scare the birds away?

I’ve got no particular horse in this race, but… Sheffield is an objectively good place to live I reckon? Great city.
100%, work in Sheffield and I quite like it. Just a bit of local banter, which Chesterfield people like to do despite the fact we barely register on Sheffields radar

I don't, I hope you fuck up your promotion splurge and go bust. Have absolutely no time for clubs who take enormous financial risks on the basis they can go rattling a donation tin at their supporters again if it doesn't all go to plan.
Edit - Spire1866 beat me to it.

I agree, it’s just funny cos it’s Chesterfield.

We have something that helps with stuff like this - basically a weekly lottery thing. It’s full at 2,500 people who pay £2 a week, half of that goes into prize draws, the other half into a pot that pays for infrastructure around the club and our community work. It was set up when we looked like going bust in the 80s I think and has just kept going to raise funds, such a simple idea that I’ve not really seen done by any other clubs.
We have TeamDraw a monthly lottery, it’s for runner was Blue Ribbon which goes back to early 80s I think.

A lot of improvements we do are fan funded or built by fans, it’s what Non League clubs do.

Like i've said. We've got form for this stuff, there is a lot of goodwill in the fan base and wider community for the work the trust have done inside and outside of football. They'd be silly not to use this to their advantage.
We will raise the 15k, just like we did last year for all the GP training gear, and just like we probably will next year.
We're about to get 65k for being on tele next week, will end up with another suprise 100k from this PL/Covid funding thing that came out of nowhere last week so those thinking we are doing this because we are hard up are barking in the wrong forest, let along up the wrong tree.

It's mildly amusing however. Our twitter admin is a volunteer as well I reckon or someone on a placement from a uni somewhere, he'll be having a baptism of fire today.

Frost covers is code name for Kyle Wooton.

In all seriousness, I’m sure you’ll be thinking about ‘Calvin Miller-ing’ him, with him being out of contract in the summer. Think he’s bagged 5 against you in the last 2 seasons? So no doubt he’ll be on the radar. Hope we get him tied down soon. If not he’ll be off to the FL next season for sure, either at a team already there or one who goes there from here.

I must’ve read it wrong, you’re not asking for handouts from your fans then no?
How you conflate the Trust asking fans if they wouldn't mind chipping in for some covers as 'begging', I honestly don't know. I'm sure they have the required £15k, but if the fans will generously pay for it, why not let them? We did the same last year for some training stuff. It's a community club

I'd have him 100% big fan. We'd have about 7 strikers then though . Maybe we can send a couple back the other way? Interest you in an injured Tom Denton or 50 year old Tyson?

Yeah you can ask away all you like, it doesn’t make it any less funny. For you to spend such extraordinary amounts elsewhere and ask for handouts elsewhere is madness. Chesterfield fans crying about people laughing about it must be able to see that surely?

I say this as a fan of a club who have done plenty of fundraisers ourselves, the difference being that we weren’t lobbing cash about elsewhere, nor did the club publicly ask for the help.

I suspect he’ll get a league club in the summer if we don’t go up. Cracking player, but there’s a little bit of a sense of it being a marriage of convenience for me. He’s extremely good in the air to be playing in a team which actively does everything possible to stop the ball ever going in the air, and I do have a feeling that Burch wouldn’t mind someone quicker as his main centre forward. Although he did make him vice captain, I guess.

We're absolutely fine with it. It's been universal acceptance from our fanbase. We're not crying, the folk taking offence on our behalf are.

Not sure this works, champ. If we weren't then at least a few people would've complained about it, and if I was bothered I certainly wouldn't have donated.

B+ for effort
D- for application
