Just for laughs, the inaugural season of the Alliance Premier League 1978/79 ended like this:

1. Altrincham.
2. Weymouth.
3. Worcester City.
4. Boston United.
5. Gravesend & Northfleet.
6. Maidstone United.
7. Kettering Town.
8. Northwich Victoria.
9. Bangor City.
10. Nuneaton.
11. Scarborough.
12. Yeovil Town.
13. Telford United.
14. Barrow.
15. Wealdstone.
16. Bath City.
17. Barnet.
18. A P Leamington.
19. Stafford Rangers.
20. Redditch United.

A handful of survivors. Mixed fortunes for the rest.
It is quite depressing seeing that list. There are a lot of substantial, traditional non-league clubs in there who have gone by the wayside, to be replaced by hobby clubs.

One of the negative effects of automatic promotion to the Football League I suppose.

On occasion potentially :fish:. The above was a sincere question you took exception too.

For a club of your size to fail to challenge promotion in 7/10 seasons down here is massively underwhelming isn’t it?

We have had near on enquiries for finishing 6th, 2nd, 2nd. Clearly that goes if we win on Saturday, but lose and no doubt the fickle ones will call for Mellons head.

Either way we will have an entire squad overhaul and regardless of division the expectation will be to challenge for promotion.

We are completely self funded. You aren't. It's underwhelming but considering we've nearly gone out of business twice, lost our training ground and almost lost our ground as well as having had to completely restructure it's no surprise.

We have no option but to cut our cloth according to our means. You've just spunked money on two unsuccessful promotion campaigns. Given how much you've spent the 'fickle ones' are probably justified to ask questions if you fail for a third time.

Well done you've got a bite.

Is there much "bantz" aimed at Tranmere? Well, I suppose there is the thing about your whole team being fat.

I quite like Tranmere. I've even been to a few of your games over the years. Most of Your fellow Tranmere fans on here are decent posters. Your anti-Wrexham shtick is overwhelmingly dull though, I can only assume it's designed to get people's backs up.
I actually quite like Wrecsam, as a kid living on Wirral, used to catch the train over to the Racecourse or whatever it's called now, when Rovers didn't have a home game. Would be good for both of us to be back in the FL, but suspect we'll both be guaranteeing the other at least one decent crowd again next season.

This is the main reason I want you to stay down. The gate again at you is worth another £20k or so to us.

Hopefully we'll give you the proper away end next season too, so we can get more in if need be.

No idea why this quoted as e10rifle but it makes for amusing reading. The Orient fan born on the Wirral.

I probably over reacted. He hit a nerve because we have spent ten years failing to get out of this hellpit, I can't deny it.

I'll just watch videos of Shaun Holmes thunderbolt into the top corner at PP to make myself feel better (and ignore all memories of the 5-0 shellacking I had to watch from the home end when Dennis Lawrence forgot how to play football) and then reunite to pour scorn on the tinpotters.

Tbh mate we had a couple if internationals in that team they could rip anyone apart on their day . That was the last Tranmere v Wrexham game that me and my late Wrexham supporting grandad chatted about.... the concept of a 3rd division team having 3 international players seemed really alien to an 88 year old ..... great team that

I have to admit I wanted Brackley to come up, due to them having about a dozen Moors players but this way I see I think as a more lucrative local rivalry. I predict next season to be...
Eastleigh v Havant
Aldershot v Midenhead
Dover v Miadstone
Barnet v Borehamwood
Ebbsfleet v Braintree
Sutton v Leyton Orient
Bromley v Dagenham
Gateshead v Hartlepool
Barrow v Fylde
Harrogate vHalifax
Wrexham v Salford
Solihull v Chesterfield

Those teams on the map show a congested south east and a very disparate north with 120 miles or more separating the two units, 144 if you discount Solihoof. No derbies or traditional rivalries for a single northern side. Those of us who aren't in the mix are going to get bored stiff.

14 cockney teams. 16 if you include Redbridge/Waterlooville. Can see a few of them taking a tumble next season though with the skew of it, although the geographical distribution of quality players might balance it out again as Shepherd's Bridscombe & Kentingdon Athletic Sports Club FC and AFC Yawncester & Bilgeham Albion both come up from the South in 2019. Very unattractive league this coming season.

Hmmm someone has a chip... what's the bet that Harrogate finish above and attract higher crowds than that tinpot club renting a ground in some murky West Yorkshire vale?

We’re going to have to have a disgusting season to not piss the away attendance table. Wonder if we can beat last season’s 11 consecutive games inside the M25?

Can't add to that synopsis tbh.

Harrogant's a good away day if you're feeling flush, up until the football bit where the best way of parking is breaking one of your party's legs so you can use the hospital's grounds.

Keep trying to type other things but my autocorrect's just writing "Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiist" instead. Just give us the better northern teams on weekends plus Leyton Orient/Aldershot, and Barrow on a warm weekend for the fells' sake.
