Not sure why a free scoring Harrogate have signed Jon Stead who managed about four goals a year excluding penalties for us. Great pro, always gave his best but it really looked like we'd wrung the last dregs out of his legs by February.
Think Chesterfield , Fylde , Wrexham will be up there, Barnet as dark horses and Harrogate to disappoint, not that I'm at all confident in those predictions.

As for us, bottom without a takeover, top eight with a timely one and if we hold on to Hemmings, Crawford and Rose with some additions.

Darren Currie in his post match interview yesterday admitting that the search for a centre forward is becoming desperate. He's says it's been going on since January and you wonder what the hell we are doing to have not got something over the line yet.

Stead will have a field day with refs, winning free kicks this season down here.

Our manager Jamie Fullarton has decided to walk 19 days before the start of the season with only 14 players signed up. Should probably be the tinpot thread

Looking tough for Halifax. Must say, I'm not a big fan of Fullerton anyway and think he'd have taken Halifax down this year. If they can appoint the right man who excels on a small budget, this may turn out to be an inadvertent blessing in disguise. Must be the current favourites for the drop though.

If you offered me 20th right now I’d snap your hand off. Something definitely not right behind the scene.

It’s a shame as there was sense of excitement when kits and cheap season tickets were released early. For once there was some optimism around the club.

Where have you seen/heard that? Ronnie Moore has applied. Spoke to our local paper

I think Master D was joking. Brabin was always mentioned as having applied for every job until Tranmere inexplicably gave him a job. Particularly with us. Him and Craig Harrison.

Former player so wouldn’t completely rule it out. Believe he’s applied in the past as has Craig Harrison.

We always seem to go for someone no one has mentioned though so will be interesting to see who we come up with this time

Our local press is saying Craig Harrison is one of the favourites... Nearly got the job in the past too. Really hope we go with the safe choice in Ronnie Moore, he's declared he wants the job and all the fans seem to want him

Harrison was way out of his depth at Pools, spent big wages on garbage players which we’ve only just got rid of, I’d take Moore and his dinosaur football over Harrison any day.

I doubt we'll get anyone better than Moore at this stage. Only 2 that would be better are Keith Hill and David Flitcroft but I'd imagine they'll both want football league jobs.

Dodgy Ronnie Moore is about 93 years old now, I don't see how he's a safe choice. There must be some good managers at North level who are more suitable and desperate to prove themselves at a higher level.

But yeah, the manager walking out with about 14 minutes to go until the start of the new season screams alarm bells off the field so maybe you'll struggle to get someone.

No,no,no.
As Chief said, blew a fortune on useless players & one of the most tactically inept managers we've ever had.
Thats saying something considering the shower we've employed over the years.

If we go for Harrison we might as well just resign to relegation. Our player of the year Nathan Clarke has declared he wants it. Would go down well as a local fan favourite but I worry about his lack of managerial experience.

I’d like Ronnie Moore with Clarke as a player/assistant personally. Think they could be a good pair

Don't think they have brought him in for 20 goals a season, though he does seem a little past it. We still have the fire power from last season and Sam Jones looks good for 15-20. With any luck we will still be banging them in this season coming.

Last summer we brought in Ian Evatt who had no experience (bar a couple of Chesterfield games as caretaker), but is a similar age to Clarke and similar league football experience.

We were worried that he'd be out of his depth, but he's honestly the most popular and seemingly tactically competent manager we've had in a long time.

If Clarke seems like he has the right personality, then I wouldn't worry too much about lack of experience.

Clarke has only been with us one season and he’s already a fan favourite. Probably helps that’s he a local lad but he said all the right things in his interview with the local paper.

I don’t think it would be the worst appointment but I have my doubts. Especially considering he was our player of the season. He played every minute of every game last season and was a rock at the back. We’d miss him immensely on the field

Absolutely impossible to predict where we will finish at the moment. If, and it feels a big if at the moment, our ‘takeover’ happens before the season and we can strengthen the defence, then players like Hemmings, Doyle, Mitch Rose, Tootle, Dennis, Kellett, Boldewijn should all be better than average at this level.

But if we still haven’t been sold, that means we won’t have signed any defenders and the above players won’t have been paid, and that will only mean one thing
