Can't believe quite a few people have put us top half/play offs. We don't even have a left back, we've got 2 centre halves in the whole squad, one of which was our CM last season, and relying on unproven players to replace Warburton's goals.

We're still at least 3 players short IMO

I could see us loaning you Oswell at some point in the season, assuming you’re not getting involved in challenging us for our desired 10th place finish.

Teams promoted from the Conference North tend to fare well.

I’d be surprised if Gannon took him back.

Yeah I don't see him fitting into the way we played last season as well as Bell and Mulhern do, dropping back and being part of the attack rather than simply being the spearhead like Oswell did the year before. He needs a side that'll let him play as a sniper

Undefeated in pre season so far after a 1-1 with Ipswich. We are thread bare but it is nice to see strikers scoring.

Today (Wednesday) should be a good day but with Hardy's Bull Poop who knows.

So far preseason has been mixed. But it is very very evident that we need a goalscorer. Not scored in 3 home games against Preston 1st team, Wigan u23 and Everton XI. Midfield looks good and we have Louis Dodds who's been on trial most of preseason who's looked good. A lot of injuries in the team at the back though. We have Mark Ross basically signed and at least one of Chris Doyle, Josh Heaton and Lewis Baines will sign I'd imagine. Need a keeper as Matt Urwin will be out for the first month at least.

Louis Dodds? Wow, think we was here for about 3 years and played about 4 times. Forgot about him

He's seemed good enough pre season. Got experience at this level and higher so would not be a bad thing to sign him.

Would rather you didn't to be honest. Scored a lot of goals for us but still didn't convince me, won't surprise me if he ends up back in Wales.

Yeah probably because they strengthen, not weaken

Anywhere from L1 downwards, if you go up you tend to do alright because of momentum. Steps up in quality aren't vast either.

I don't think you'll be near the top, around 12th-16th ish. I say that because you're part time and the squad you have doesn't scream amazeballs but you never know in this league.

Good to see you on the way back anyways.

So, Pete Wild appointed by us. Not much managerial experience but seems really well-liked by Oldham fans in his brief stint. Mixed feelings this one, only time will tell.

lack of experience is a gamble, but one sometimes worth taking... Ian Evatt had only a brief spell as Chesterfield caretaker manager when we appointed him last summer - he's transformed the team and style of play - and is the best manager we've had since Ray Wilkie (late 1980's - early 1990's)

Doesnt seem to be an away thread yet, but interesting that due to Woking's lack of ability to cope with large away crowds, we are only getting 900 tickets for the game in a couple of weeks, which will sell out very quickly!

900! .... they gave us almost 1400 last season. We filled the away standing terrace and part of the seating in their [out of place] large stand. I guess they're only giving you half the away terrace and seating. Don't go running on the pitch when you score though... the locals don't like it.

Yeah and those who strengthen tend to finish in the top 7. I don't have you down for the top 7. I think you'll be surprised.

Can't understand how people are putting us in the bottom 4. Over the last 28 games of last season we were top of the form table and we've strengthened significantly in pre-season.

I would be disappointed if we finished outside the top 7 this season.

Your team looks alright on paper but not sure Jack Munns and Michael Woods are players that'll get you in the mix.

Dover should be comfortably mid-table. There are 8-10 teams I'd have going down before them.

Munns is a good player. Didn’t work for him at Pools with the location, injuries and brain dead manager being issues. I would have liked him to resign with us but Balanta is a bit better than him and plays in the number 10 role like Munns wants to. If used right, he’ll hit 5-10 goals and do well for Dover

Quite. Anyone who thinks they’ll be down the bottom under Hessenthaler needs to have a word with themselves.

Absolutely. Their turn around in form last season was more impressive than Chesterfields for me. Mid table written all over them.

I hadn't really paid attention to Dover (in fairness, why would I?) but you may have a point.

I had a word with myself... and still think Dover will finish near the bottom. Yep, I agreed with myself.

Tbf it must have been impressive if you think they topped our turnaround. We were utterly shambolic throughout September, October, November and December last season leaving us in the bottom 3 at Christmas, and Sheridan somehow got a tune out of the players we had alongside a master stroke in signing Boden and turned our 2nd half of the season into play off form.

Must admit i’m another to have taken 0 notice in what Dover were up to at the end of last season or throughout pre-season, but it seems from what i’ve Read on here that we should be in for a stern test this upcoming Saturday as we host them.

If we’re serious about mounting a promotion challenge this year we need to seriously improve on our home form in recent years, so i’ll be disappointed with anything less than a win to start the season off this Saturday.

They looked relegated and they finished comfortably midtable (and above you) . And they did it on a smaller budget.

Not to downplay what Sheridan did, but it was more expected. Dover looked gone midway through the season.
