Well what a way to get our first win! Don't really know how Stockport are 5th, they were dire.
Knackered ourselves out during the two wins over Wrexham and Fylde during the previous few days. Plus your lot probably know how to negate County more than anyone else will

Anyway, bad news today as Jake Kirby to quit (or 'step away from') football at just 25. Undoubtedly a quality player but had a terrible time with injuries, picked up another during the opening minutes of the game at Wrexham a couple of weeks ago.

Fortunately, and somewhat bizarrely, Harrogate have let us take Joe Leesley on loan until January, despite him being a pretty regular first-teamer there, to replace Kirby.

Harrogate know they've had their 15 minutes of fame and are clearing the ground to go back where they belong. :bdick:

former Barrow and Stockport Striker Rhys Turner has similarly retired at 26 this week

Yes, the Harrogate experiment was always doomed. But the model is always to come in and take over a small club with no fans, fund it beyond what its fanbase can sustain and then wonder why they all piss off quickly after some bad results or when the money stops. Repeat, repeat, repeat

If our takeover doesn't happen, which is very much a possibility (90 days and counting since it was announced as a done deal) and we don't go up this season then it wouldn't be a major surprise if we went back to being part-time next year. We have no financial resources to speak of and are operating with one off the smallest playing budgets in the league, which will only get worse if we don't get promoted.

Part time isn't so bad. We've got some excellent players earning far more from their income with us and other jobs than they'd get in league 2 let alone the National League

I had far too many seasons watching us employ various tattooed 'ballers' who had spent their entire lives so far being told they are amazing only to shit themselves when they got kicked into touch by McNulty et al and actually had no ability to think for themselves on a football pitch

And we all know that the best part time players are far better than the worst full timers. Don't give me all that guff about fitness either

And the FA continually allow it.

All about location. Plenty of well paid jobs in your neck of the woods, bugger all down here. Yeovil may be better placed to make a go of it than we would have been though.

You would of course know all about kicking people into touch as our injury list following a game against you shows (for the second year in a row) ;)

Deal with it. Last year you lot were giving it huge about being so massive compared to the others. Just get Johnson on the phone to junior like you did last season

I tipped Torquay so be the dark horse this season, still going with it.

We were part-time until the late 90s so we've been there and done it, however the football world is very different now. We've gone back to basics as much as is possible (no permanent coaching staff, no backroom staff such as sports science, no full-time physio, our Head of Finance scouts for us etc.) and I don't think there's much more we can do as a full-time club.

Go part time and get all the best players in the South/South West.

This business of clubs like Maidenhead and Boreham Wood going full time is just stupid.

We have an extra training session this year but we aren't full time and we still make a lot of local signings.

Another interesting pre-match presser from Darren Sarll

"I see teams turn up with 3 or 4 sports scientists, doing that stupid walk with elastic bands around their ankles and crap like that...I mean what's the game coming to?"

In my day you'd warm up with 12 hours down t'pit and a dose of ricketts.

All about location for the PT/FT thing. Not really a pool of decent PT players around here compared to, say, London/Manchester where there is a far bigger pool of players as well as better paid jobs. Never as simple as getting the best PT players outside those handful of areas.

Probably the same teams who have less injuries than his side (I think I read you had a lot of injuries?).

Yes, but we're 4th and they're all below us so he's doing something right.

You'll need to go full time to have a go at staying up. Just don't do it before 8th Oct. :ds:
We simply don't have the funds to go full time. I do think if we stay up this year then we could stay here for a while and acclimatise to the league.

beware of 2nd season syndrome though - a lot of promoted teams that stay up (sometimes easily) do really badly 2nd season in the league....

Wow. The day I never thought would happen has happened. The takeover of our club has been completed. After 25 years we have a new owner. I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

Same. Hope it’s the start of something good, will wait to hear the details next week though. Fry and Hayward do deserve credit for what they have achieved with the club, they just should have sold up 5 or 6 years ago. Their reign however will be tarnished by the boardroom shambles of the past few seasons.

Spot on. Not entirely convinced by Priestnall so far but now he's in charge we'll hopefully find out his true intentions for the club.

Can you get thrown out of the league for being a complete and utter shambles of a football club? If so then Solihull deserve it. The entire matchday experience yesterday was embarrassing from start to finish. They couldn't cope with the 400 or so away fans (they couldn't tell how many for sure). Everyone had to park on the dual carriageway because they said the car park was full 90 mins before kick off (it was half empty). The bar in the social club had 30 minute queues. They told us the stadium was unsegregated then decided our fans had to all go to one end a minute before kick off (we were taking up 3 of the 4 sides). At half time they repeatedly told us we couldn't change ends, then one minute into the second half they told us we HAD to change ends. It was bizarre and embarrassing.

Yeah we had some similar issues when we went there. They ran out of food before kick off and most of the portaloos(!) were out of action. The parking is an accident waiting to happen as shown in the first minute or so (and leaving the ground at about 7:40) of this video:

God help them when Notts come to town.
