We've received the horrendous news that Martin 'Badger' Baker, founder of the Ciderspace website, was found dead this afternoon.

This has stunned me and the whole of the Yeovil Town community. Badger worked tirelessly on behalf of the fans and put in thousands of hours of work to ensure we had just about the best unofficial club website out there. Everyone knew and liked him and his knowledge of the club was second to none. His contribution cannot be undestimated but apart from anything he was a bloody good guy. This has left a massive hole which cannot be filled and quite honestly it's knocked me for six. I'm still reeling.

RIP Badger
Never met or knew him, but ciderspace was the oracle when it came to anything ytfc related, and anything he didn’t know about Yeovil town wasn’t worth knowing. As someone on twitter put it perfectly, not all Yeovil legends are players. RIP Badger.

He's never been a good footballer. Just a fat lazy bastard who can hit a ball hard and fairly accurately. Having said that I would still have him at Chorley because surely he can't be as bad as what we have up front
He spent a season here about 8 years ago and technically he was excellent in his first touch and finding space off it. His problem was that he wasn't quick enough over 5 or 10 yards to get past players, which is why all he ever seems to do for Fylde was hang around the centre of the goal and shoot from 20-25 yards, which he is good at.

It's also why an FL Club has never taken a punt on him. The game would pass him by at L2 level, it's too quick for him. The only way it *might* have worked was if a team built around him like Fylde appear to have done but that's very unlikely.

Was lucky to have met Badger numerous times in the late 90s and early 2000s while he was in tandem with Hoagy. Fucking sad news to read tonight. RIP Martin, top man

We wont go under but we might not be able to compete up here too long against the ex league clubs and bankrolled hobby projects

Has there been much chat about that game (sorry if it’s been posted elsewhere I’ve missed it if so).

Yeah tre droll Monkey Tennis, remind us of your ownership and history over the past few years?
Does it no longer count that your foreign billionaire playboy doesnt fancy spending in the same way he did in the past?
Casson bought the club in 2014, according to the press,
"Casson has ploughed more than £2million of his own cash into Barrow as he bids to return them to the Football League" (2014-2016)
Small co incidence that you got promoted the next year. When we got promoted no millionaire owner, in fact no big change in ownership before our Community Interest Company was taken over by Darrly Eales less than 18 months ago. Still, never let facts get in the way of your own good story.

What are you talking about "foreign billionaire"? He was from Barrow.

He's no longer involved - it was decent while it lasted but went tits up as most people predicted. The reality (that you're selectively choosing to ignore) is that we were facing ruin 12 months ago when the owners walked away, but some more local blokes have steadied the ship, reduced the budget and we're currently doing the best we ever have since being in non-league football.

The point is, there are so many better stories in non-league, but the national press are always taken in by whoever is spending a load of cash, gambling the future of their clubs on promotion. It's boring, and evidenced by the media obsession with Tamplin and Salford, and why The Athletic sees fit to big up Solihull. You bringing up a newspaper article about our old chairman chucking about his cash just proves that point.

I for one am glad Casson has gone... he was ploughing that much into the playing budget and neglecting most other things we were always going to end up where we were prior to him coming in once he'd had enough of investing; worrying about the future of the club with only a set of new floodlights and a disillusioned fanbase to show for it.

I sometimes wonder where we'd be off the pitch if Hornby and his consortium took over originally*, someone who knows what he's doing rather than putting everything in the playing budget and hiring his inexperienced son as "CEO" to oversee it all. Sounds more ridiculous the more you think and I'm glad it's over.

*We wouldn't be near where we are on the pitch without that initial investment IMO. Now much less than what Cox had to sign a new squad every time we lost.

Maidenhead to apply to the local council to build a new stadium just over a mile away”

148 years of history at York Road and a Guinness world record could all soon be over.

https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/maidenheadunited/news/club-statement--2488502.html
That would be Braywick park; went there a few years ago to watch a friend play rugby. Large area, with Athletic track, and 3G hockey pitch. Also a Carvery, or similar pub, in the middle. Massive potential ,only 5 mins. away over the railway. Real shame about York road, though, after all those years. That bit of central-town real estate is worth a fortune; beware of circling sharks.........

That would be very sad IMO. Some more football history lost. I thought the club was considering building a new stand on the uncovered side?

There were plans but it's prime land for developers. If we were to build a new stand there then that would be it - there's no further room for expansion as we are penned in on the other sides. I love York Road but most of the ground is dated and it's totally unsuitable for segregation which is a real issue at this level. There are already quite a few makeshift fixes - similar to Solihull - just to get the ground to NL standard. It may just about meet L2 standards if expanded, but there's no guarantee. The proposed new site is slightly out of town and 10 mins walk from the station, so it's more accessible than 90% of out of town moves made by other clubs. York Road is likely to be highly valuable if sold and from a financial stability perspective, it all makes sense.

The big downside is the intangibles - all the history lost and one of the few grounds left of its type gone for housing.

Our new ground is only just out of Town. You used to come out of High Barnet Tube Station turn left and walk 500 yards down the hill. Now when you come out of the Tube Station turn right up the hill and walk 7 miles to Edgware.

Underhill couldn't host weddings on match days though so it's not all doom and gloom.

Interesting to see challinor has come out saying his budget at hartlepool is higher than he had at our place. I for one expected that to be the case but for all the people criticising challinor perhaps now it shows how good of a job he did for us

https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/news/s...e-statement-regarding-current-league-position

The Wrexham Supporters Trust, Football Club Board, Manager and Players of Wrexham AFC want to apologise to you regarding the position we currently occupy in the National League.

Despite upping the playing budget going into the season by over 20% versus the prior season, it hasn’t worked and the club currently sits in its lowest ever league position.

As lifelong fans of the club ourselves who follow the team up and down the country, we fully understand the frustration, embarrassment and upset this is causing everyone and that we need to urgently address the situation.

The Board and Dean Keates met today and talked through the steps necessary to turn this situation around and discussed the investment needed in further additions to the squad we will need to make in January.

We have to wait until January, because as a Welsh Club playing in the English National League we are bound by the international transfer window (this does not apply to the England based National League clubs), and these rules mean we cannot make any permanent signings until the transfer window is open in January. As a matter of urgency, we plan to bring in loan additions who can help us in the short term.

We fully understand the anger from fans and respect the right to make feelings known. Given the current circumstances, your club and team need you more than ever on a matchday to give us the best chance of pulling clear of this situation and that’s something everyone connected to Wrexham Football Club wants and something we all can rally around.

Ultimately, we understand that we are accountable for everything that happens at the football club, the good along with the bad but would urge everyone to pull together in the same direction until this situation is addressed.

Your fantastic support is always appreciated.

The rumours are that we've got at least £1m in the bank. Yet we pay peanuts for managers and coaching staff.

We were saving the money for investing into a new training facility but that money needs spending on sacking the managerial team and bringing a load of new players in.

So they're admitting that they've spent a ton of money on several shit signings and their plan to rescue the season is to spend even more.

Looks like they gonna ride or die with Keates.

As you haven`t got a sugar daddy it is always wise to keep some money to cover any short term necessities that crop up(ground repairs etc). Most clubs will have a surplus at this moment as well as they have the season ticket money and they need that to get through the summer.
