Shouldn't be complacent given it's the first game of the season, we have the least settled side ever, and Sutton went on a cracking FA Cup run last season against sides far bigger than us, not to mention their dodgy pitch...

Just looking at the calibre of players we have signed, it won't matter to much if we don't win this game; once this side gels I would expect us to start grinding out results and hopefully finish in the top 7.

I don't know much about Sutton I'm afraid, but their squad will be far more settled than ours (aside from our 21-year-old keeper, our starting XI will be brand new), and whilst the dodgy 3G pitch probably won't prove to be too much of an advantage, it is 100% to blame if we contrive to lose, and the game from that moment on only ever be played on proper British grass with no exceptions.

Could be anything in truth, and the first goal will be mightily important, but I reckon we'll edge it 1-2.

Up the Os.

Expecting a very tough match in our first game back in this league. Aldershot at home. I expect they'll be challenging for playoffs and possibly promotion so I expect a loss but I've got a sneaky suspicion we'll do them 1-0 with a Denton header (watch out for him this season). That's if we get a replacement right back for Kevin Roberts, otherwise, aldershot's attacking flair will tear us a new one. Just hope that I won't have to go through a bunch of stress in a relegation fight. I'll bite your hand off for mid table

Weird one, probably the most optimistic I've been going into a season since we've been back in the conference (very quiet optimism anyway). But playing last years play off finalists isn't the easiest first game either, so would take a draw from this.

Fancy us to get a result at Guiseley. Don't be easy but any sort of win will do me.

Should be interesting, Ebbsfleet seem to be well fancied in the prediction thread on here whereas few give us a prayer. We've kept pretty much the same defense and midfield from the second half of last season with a couple of additions along with a completely new strike force.

We have no defenders anymore so would expect Maidenhead to at least get a score draw. We've reinforced other areas well though, so will depend on how we use and keep the ball ourselves.

Aye I'd expect some high scoring games involving us this season.

Defensively we could be fairly suspect, but going forward I feel we have more than enough. We kept the majority of our promotion winning squad and have strengthened fairly well. Competition for places will be interesting, we have 5 players wingers and most of them could cover at full back/wing back too. I'd expect one or two players to go out on loan, unless injuries occur.

I don't know much about Sutton I'm afraid.

Decent side for this level, still not a clue how they've managed to keep hold of Eastmond. I've been impressed with our signings, very surprised as well actually of the squad Ling has built but Sutton away as an open fixture is going to be a tough game. I fancy a 2-1 loss, Bonne will give us the lead, Sutton will pull it back in the second half through Dundas and Emmanuel - calling it now.

I think we'll squeeze past Dover on Saturday, 2-1, but it'll be a tough game. Deverdics to come off the bench to net the winner from a free kick against his former side.

We're probably going to field 7 debutants so it may take time for them to gel. I'm not sure we've played enough friendlies but only time will tell of course. Macc and Maidenhead away next, wouldn't be surprised to see us lose at one of them.

Yeah it really is very difficult to call isn't it, pre-season only means so much.
I do very much like the look of Bonne, might stick £20 on him to be top scorer in this league, I don't know what Colchester were thinking when they let him go - do you happen to know how much we paid for him?

Regrettably, I'll be missing the Sutton game as I'm north of the wall for the Fringe, but I'll drag the missus to a BT sport bar, the lucky girl.

Two very winnable home games in a row after Saturday's opener so a draw wouldn't be the worst result.

Do you think other teams will up their game a bit for Orient, or is that arrogant thinking?

Absolutely no idea how we are going to get on against Boreham wood but really looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to watching the BT games of our division

You shouldn't be.

There's a reason they're called Boring Wood. Scored 49, conceded 48 in 46 games last season...

Not a clue for Bonne. He has ability for sure, but I think it goes without saying he is nowhere near the finished article, certainly at League level. I think he will do well though, he's got a good brain.

I will also be missing it, I think probably for the delights of Wealdstone v Concord, but I'm not entirely sure on that one yet. Aberstone - anywhere in the area likely to show Orient v Sutton?

I think in general the term upping their game is kinda crass and lazy analysis and most certainly arrogant! I think there are times (and I expect Tuesday to be one), where we will come against a team who look to pack their half, get players behind the ball and first and foremost, not concede. It can be frustratingly annoying to breakdown, most times that team will get broken down, but occasionally they'll nick a goal and a 1-0 win.

The margins between the teams aren't so big (ignoring a few obvious examples e.g Welling a couple of years ago ft. Harry Lee, but even then had a few good players; Lokko for one) between the teams either. Even a small part-time outfit (with respect, a Guiseley) will have a good number of players who have been pro or could turn pro, it's not a case of lol these postmen walking into town, it's a game v a tactically aware teams with players like Adam Lockwood, Wesolowski, Odejayi etc. Yeah, we'd be expected to beat them and have the better squad, but if we played them 10 consecutive weeks we would almost certainly lose a few games.

If we lose to Sutton I fully expect someone to say "playing Orient, live on BT Sport, this was their cup final", which would be so inaccurate it's kinda funny. Sutton are a good team for this level, we'd do well to remember we're a non-league club now, although to be fair most people seem accepting of that - I wait for our first bad loss just to see the reaction.

Great post to be fair although to prove your point further I would just add to your list: Lee Molyneux, Kevan Hurst, Marcus Williams, Rob Atkinson and Connor Brown all with extensive league experience

Difficult first game away at a rejuvenated Wrexham. I think we'll lose but anything else would be a positive result, and a defeat would not necessarily be indicative of a poor season to come.

Made me laugh to see Bet365 are offering odds of 15/2 for Bradley Bubb to score first for us on Saturday. He's been out since April and is not back until November/December!

We'll be fielding at least 9 debutants, so none of that excuse ;)

2-1 Hartlepool would probably be my prediction as well..

I expect us to lineup:

Grainger
Caprice Coulson Elokobi Widdowson
Lee Clay
Dayton Mooney McAnuff
Bonne

Subs:
Sargeant
Sendles-White
Lawless
Boco
Abrahams
Charlie Lee may not be fit, but we shall see. Alex Lawless will come in for him then.

Sutton have an experienced side, plenty of names I recognise in there.

I've been to every friendly and we are good in possession, we move the ball quickly on the floor and I'm sure we will create chances. Last Tuesday at Hornchurch, we came up against a goalkeeper who played a blinder and scraped his team a 0-0. I have no doubts that will happen once or twice to us this season.

Our weakness for me are the full backs, Widdowson and Caprice's one v one defending isn't the strongest and Caprice likes to charge forward alot, which can leave gaps.

We will score, but I don't think we will be a team that keeps many clean sheets.

Get money on Josh Taylor to score at least once for Sutton after his trial with us a month ago.

Our squad is the 1st/2nd strongest in the league IMO alongside Tranmere's.

Looks like our ticket surge for Sutton was tempory as they've made general sale, most I'd imagine will stay home and watch.
Looking forward to being bottom of a league again come 3pm :bdick:

I'm expecting to see a much better Halifax team than the one that rolled over for us in April 2016. Away from home on the opening day, i'd be happy with a point.

I think we'll line up 4-3-3 with

Cole

Alexander
Reynolds
De Havilland
Arnold

Kellerman
Gallagher
Oyeleke

Fenelon
McClure
Mensah

No idea how Rovers will line up at Torquay. Confident we'll score, but as near certain we'll concede. While the result could be anything from a comfortable win to a narrow defeat, I'm going 2-2

Looking forward to the long trip on Saturday, think we'll be setting of at around 7am. Never been to Torquay before, not expecting much to be honest.

Its difficult to say how we will line up I'd say most likely is:

Davies
Duggan Buxton Mcnulty Mceveley Ridehagh
Hughes Harris
Jennings
Cook/alabi Norwood

Subs:
Pilling
Gumbs
Norburn
Cook/alabi
Mangan

For a prediction ill go for 2-0 Tranmere, Norwood to score both, 450 Tranmere fans.

Best not to - Plainmoor is dreadful*. Torquay fans also make the oddest noise when they score; sort of like letting the gas out of a helium balloon into a megaphone.

*small caveat: I've not been there since the new stand has been built.

1983 was the last time i went down to Torquay, 2 up on a 100cc Honda. Took 11 hours to get there in the pissing rain. Mark Palios hit a 30 yard screamer against the crossbar for Tranmere in a 1-1 draw.
More than likely giving it a miss this time around as its £130 and 6 hours by train.

That team is ten times better than our starting XI last season, I can't wait to see how it all goes.
