Pools were awful, slow, one paced, same as last season really,I was bored to tears & Dover deserved the win.
But you lads were right, the standard of the officials was shocking.
Some of the decisions were laughable, they were the only things that brightened up the game.

Get used to it lads we had some right muppets last year v bromley , southport and gateshead especially. At times you feel there is a conspiracy to keep the big clubs down here however when you speak to the supporters of small clubs you realise they are just as bad towards them..... the refs are all useless, some just out of school looking to build a strongman reputation

Very solid performance from us at Halifax, a 2-0 away win on the opening day is a good result regardless of opponent.

Thought Halifax started stronger, but we grew into the game as the first half went on. Second half we stepped up a gear or two and were largely in control (although Halifax were a threat on occasions) and overall I think we deserved the win. Fenelon took his goal really well, Oyeleke and Rowe were excellent in midfield and Reynolds was solid as usual, but my man of the match was De Havilland, thought he read the game really well and wasnt afraid to run with the ball (although he ran too far a couple of times).

I think we have a really good team this season especially with Mensah and Evans to come back, but I have a few concerns up front because Rendell doesn't look the same player he was 2-3 years ago, Okojie has a bit to go before he is ready to start every week and I don't think McClure is a 20 goal a season striker.

I know this may seem strange, considering we won 2-0, but I have to mention the referee who was appalling. In the first half he seemed to let Halifax off with a number of fouls (some were clear yellow card offences), but booked our player every time we made a foul. I agreed with all of our yellows except Rendell's, but there was no consistency when Halifax made similar fouls. In the second half a Halifax took the law into his own hands, grabbed the ball because he wanted treatment and only after he grabbed the ball did the referee stop the game (when really we should have had a free kick for handball). I still also have no idea why we were awarded a penalty in the last minute because it seemed a perfectly good challenge from the Halifax defender on Okojie, one of the worst decisions you will see all season - we were just lucky to benefit from it.

The one big decision the referee did get right was to disallow Fenelon's second goal. Fenelon was onside, but Rendell was offside and started to run towards the ball before stopping and letting Fenelon score. It was a tough call because Rendell didn't actually play the ball but my interpretation of the current rules is that by starting to run towards the ball Rendell was active and therefore offside.

Anyway, it was an almost perfect day and a great start to the season. Hopefully we can kick on at home to Torquay on Tuesday.

I see the league haven't taken long to show their distaste for us.

Don't think either red card was unfair really. McNulty was daft, but it all boiled over after an awful two-footer by Buxton. Norwood was a clear elbow if you had the right angle. We were very close to having Lathrope sent off too. The ref was shit for both teams, and it's a shame he lost control because it was a decent match up.

I actually had a look on the/a Tranmere forum and it still seems a fair % of your fan base are expecting this season to be a walk in the park. Fortunately it seems most on here are a bit more realistic, but I get the impression some Rovers fans will just expect wins to come. Smaller sides will set up with the intention of getting in your faces, and if you don't have the discipline (shown to be lacking yesterday!) then it's going to be tough. Try and lose the "everybody against us" mentality and knuckle down like Bristol Rovers did!

We've had more red cards than any other team over the last 47 games and there's far dirtier sides than us, that aside I'd imagine you'll be decent at home again this year so a draw isn't the end of the world.

It isn't going to be a "walk in the park" but I still thoroughly expect us to go one better than last year. Yesterday's side was still missing Ben Tollitt, if we get off to a strong start in the first 10 games; by which time he will have returned from his injury. It'll give us another lift and allow us to return to the 4-2-2-2.

I'd take a guess at 150 ish Joe. Hope your feeling better very soon. You missed an entertaining game to be fair. Frustration from both teams that they couldn't find a winner.

Pretty good going that to be honest. I'll be ok in the end bud. Just gotta wait for a scan and physio, then I'll see where to go from there!

Did sound like one of them games, where either side could have had it. Hopefully we get our first three at home to Maidstone on Tuesday.

Long day yesterday but made all the better with bringing 3 points home, One of two new ground this season , and quite liked the Victoria Ground , not a massive ground , but has a likeness to it , maybe that there is a lot of standing room and a nice touch at the entrance , telling us just how many miles we had travelled to get there. Like what Macclesfield did last season
Dover started the Post Miller era with just 2 players from last season but looked to have hit the ground running Kinnear has said we needed to improve the defence , and a blank sheet get us off to a great start. Expected more from Hartlepool, but we limited their chances by some good defending and 2 or 3 good saves from Walker when they were throwing everything at us in the last 10 minutes, Ref seemed out of he depth and the header that for a corner , that they gave a goal kick for was classic , the ref and the lino , just looked at each other, not knowing what to do, early days yet , and I think HU will come good at some time,
Having seen us yesterday , I going into Tuesday with more confident , that I was expecting

Says it all really when you were 150 yards away in the away end could see a decision that the lino 10 feet away couldn't get right, I've seen substitutes forced to lino Sunday league matches perform better.

You were the better team yesterday for me and deserved the win, a lot more physical than us and seemed well drilled, those two nippy wingers looked dangerous, just needed to work on their delivery a bit better, really should've been 2-0 if not for your lad fluffing his lines through on goal towards the end, as for our chances they were mostly half attempts and one goal mouth scramble, wasn't much to really get excited about sadly.

How did Joe Ward do, Sparrow? Noticed he scored.

Comfortably our best player. Too good for us, which isn't a bad thing as he is signed on a two-year deal - providing our money doesn't run out in November. Was quality yesterday. Will need to carry us.

In fairness, we got more points last season than Bristol Rovers did in the year they went up, and there was no complacency when we played the lower placed teams. Our record against the mid-table / bottom half sides last season was excellent. It was defeats against the top five that cost us promotion.

Good effort. 2-0 was harsh on us, the ref was the only person in the ground who thought that was a penalty so I guess that makes up for your minor and slightly baffling quibbles about his treatment of the respective teams. I thought he was pretty useless towards both of us equally. Rendell should have been booked for continuing to argue after the ref had spent some time in discussion with his lino before disallowing the goal- did he really think he could argue the ref into changing his mind? I thought we looked fairly solid at the back but had little to offer at the other end, for the most part. This is a view not shared by many, the majority believing we were abysmal from 1 to 11 and naturally, Billy Boy's second honeymoon is over already, and we should now be preparing for life in Conference North again next season, according to some of the Mensa members on our home forum. A few of the "special" ones are already on with their Heath Out campaign. Plus ca change.:bdick:

Very disappointed in our performance yesterday. Dodgy tactics from Keates left us completely blunted against a decent Macc side. We never looked like scoring and Boden just driften deeper and deeper as he wasn't getting any decent service. We need to actually start using the decent players we've signed properly. Hopefully a better performance on Tuesday against Minehead or wherever.

Macc looked decent. Some bright young players, their defence look awfully creaky (although they easily hoovered up the lumps down their throats we served up) and I expect them to finish around midtable again.

The referee was particularly shite and seemed to favour them more often than not. Where have all the homers gone?

Perhaps, some referees are a lot more lenient or less consistent than others. I had to smile reading your forum as it was suggested that we liked the referee because we'd had him five times last season. I can categorily state that we really don't enjoy his performances either!! I think that you will, providing that discipline doesn't hold you back. Also I've no idea why Cook didn't start, you looked a damn sight more threatening with him leading the line.

Fair enough. I wouldn't say so much about the complacency being the issue on the pitch, but it just surprised me how some fans were reacting to the result.

Mellon seems to be doing everything he can to avoid playing him at he moment. Even with Norwood suspended, I am not convinced he will start on Tuesday. It is bizarre.

Must admit as well the Tranmere forum made for good reading, not winning at "a place like Torquay" or putting 5 past us seems to be end of the world for some supporters. I don't think we'll be turning heads this season but I'd like to think we have a lot more bottle and experience than we've had in previous seasons.

Bizarre. Glad though - recall him being a right threat for Barrow down here a couple of years ago. On his day he's an FL player.
