I’d back us to beat anyone in the play offs.
I'm a bit perturbed that one of our more cautious, level headed fans, who isn't exactly known for his braggodocio, has today pronounced that we are not only going to finish in the play offs, we're going to win them.

And no, it wasn't me. :bdick:

I'd agree with that, I didn't actually think we played that badly and we'd have got a draw if it wasn't for the daft penalty we gave you. Given the season you've had, credit is due for persisting and not taking the easy way out (*cough* Dover *cough*)
That penalty was stupid indeed and that happened after Hooper(!) managed to successfully harry your defender and keeper into giving away a throw-in.

Hooper caused our defence problems all game - very good header for the first goal too

He did. He looked revitalised in yesterday’s match and the striker I was expecting us to have when we signed him. He hasn’t been doing that for the rest of the season, especially as the service to him has been so wretched.

I’d say that’s about on a par - County and Bristol Rovers same level, ditto Grimsby and Pools
There was 47k there, I don’t think it’ll ever be beaten. And both sides were that good they’d have pissed this current league season IMO.

Cant think of any clubs that have been down here other than Rovers and Luton that would take one of the mega 30k+ followings. Reckon we’d take about 20.

How many did Oxford Utd take their play-off final?

Stockport County.
We didn't take that many to Wembley League Two play offs in 2008. We ended up only shading Rochdale who we are much bigger club than.

We have a great core support we can rely on which makes us one of the biggest in this league for sure but we don't have as bigger potential day trip pool as I see some other clubs in the lower leagues reach for when they get to Play Off finals etc.

I'm content with that though, I find the day tripping City and United fans a pain in the arse. One of the reasons we don't draw on the Stockport City fans (which is a lot, Stockport is a major Man City hotbed, Manchester is mostly United) is when we were beating them in the 90's/early 00's and we rubbed it good and proper, as we should have. Therefore most Stockport City fans resent us. Which is fine by me.

I think we'd be close to 20k for a playoff final too, we took 17,000 to Cardiff for the League 1 playoff final, we tend to pull big numbers for our club size, for one off special occasion games, we'd definitely have a smattering of Boro/Mackem maybe even Mags tagging along for a day out.

If it is Pools and Stockport and under no restrictions there'd be a 40k crowd in I reckon. High 30s or low 40s something like that.

Hereford took that many to the FA Vase final in 2016. Even they didn't know why. :dk:

17k for L1 play off final but 20k for National League? How does that work? :fl:

Because it's at Wembley and not the middle of Wales somewhere

I agree. 15/20 each plus a few locals/freebies. Think any combo of Notts/Stockport/Wrexham/Chessie/Pools would get around 40k

I think even Sutton would take more than 20 fans to Wembley. Boreham Wood may struggle to take 20 though.

Think Torquay would take a decent amount as well they always have good away numbers bearing in mind the home crowds.

Either way, hope there's two proper clubs befitting the venue. Not like Bromley vs Eastleigh or some nonsense.

I’m not sure this has been mentioned by the league at all - but presumably the play-off final is going to be somewhere other than Wembley this year anyway?

Play-offs are due over ‘the first three weekend of June’, so the final is set for mid-way through the Euros. Doubt Uefa are going to be allowing us to be dossing about on the pitch of the key host venue at that point tbh.

I think we’d probably take more than 20k btw - it’s a weird quirk that, of the handful of pro clubs left not to play at the new Wembley, Notts or Forest are both there (discounting our behind closed doors visit). So there’s not been a chance for the locals who aren’t die hards of either club but fancy a trip to do it.

Fairly sure we had less overall than 'Dale, but they'd spent their time appealing to local Utd & city fans to come along, discounts for their ST holders or something along those lines. We had something like 12-15k, but they were all County fans (or people with a strong affinity, at the very minimum)

I missed the Wembley years of the early '90s, so this isn't a first hand account, but wasn't it something like 20k for the first visit against Stoke, then numbers gradually went down with each subsequent trip (and defeat). Fatigue & lack of novelty meant there were less than 10k by the time of Burnley's big family reunion in '94

Certainly wouldn't be the case this year if we made it. I'm sure there's going to be a boom in attendances around the country once lockdown is over, and whoever ends up playing will take loads due to sheer joy of being out of the house. Proximity to that there London being a big factor, of course (did you know Northampton once took 40k, if you haven't heard about it then you've clearly never met one of their fans), selfishly I'd much rather they moved it to Old Trafford, can you imagine us vs Wrexham there...

I am sure I have seen somewhere that Leicester is where the final will be played

If that’s the case, I’m backing us to somehow get there.

Finally getting to two big showpiece matches in two years after twenty years of nothing and then one being behind closed doors and one being a day out at a stadium ten minutes walk from my house would be peak Notts.

We lost the play off final in this league to Hereford in 2006 at Leicester. Maybe it's time to go back to right that wrong.
P.s if there's any Hereford fans lurking on this page. That was still a badly hit cross. They'll know what I mean

King Power would be a bad, bad venue btw. Leicester’s a good city if you know where to go, but it’s as identikit as you can get as a ground and there’s no good pubs or anything in the close vicinity of it.
