Dover win at home for the second time this season, score 3 in a match for the first time this season, Effiong scored a penalty, Munns put some good balls in, Gobern scored a goal and Rigg played well. I'm in shock.

Eastleigh are by far the worst team I've seen this season. Keeper made some good saves but looked a liability every time we put a ball in the box, didn't impress me at all. The Eastleigh number 6 (Boyce?) was awful, although none of the Eastleigh defence covered themselves in glory to be honest.

That defence that played tonight is far too good for this level, that we’ve got the best defensive record even though we’ve barely been able to play them together due to injuries is very promising.

The defensive record looks even more impressive when you consider that we conceded most of our goals in August. Since losing 3-1 at Yeovil, we've conceded 7 goals in 11 games and kept 6 clean sheets. I'm not unhappy with where we are at the moment, but I do wonder if having a normal pre-season of about a week and having to get new signings match fit in league games will cost us in the long run.

Even though we’ve won the last 3, our trip to Notts at the weekend is looking like a very tough game.
You should be ok, Notts are being true Brothers this season with 2 draws from their 3 Brotherhood derbies so they should be ok to throw another one up.

I'd happily take a Brotherly draw and a goodwill point right now.

Btw, there's the final October table to update and you da man. Get on it!

A good set of results for us last night. If we win our game in hand we go top.

Points off for Torquay. We are in trouble and they should have at least given us a point.

You've got Chorley Saturday so at least your guaranteed a draw.

By all accounts, a good performance but the damage was done in the first 20 minutes and we lack the ability to put the ball away when it counts despite dominating.

I actually think Chorley will be tough for us because they will stick everyone behind the ball and we will struggle without any physical presence up front. Unless we get an early goal, I would expect a very frustrating afternoon.

Chorley are really highlighting the difference between the National League and NL North. In this league you can't get away with having two slow defenders, regardless of how much they win in the air. Teague and Meppen-Walter will head and hoof clear all day, but anyone with pace and skill will open them up. I imagine they were their biggest asset last season - now they're their biggest weakness.

I wish I shared the confidence of those who have us down as Champions! We *should* be up there with our squad, but in what you might call the 'pressure' games we've faced so far we've struggled - away at fellow relegatees Yeovil, away at leaders Bromley, and a derby at Chesterfield on Saturday on the TV and in front of a big away support. Hopefully we can turn up better in these games as the season goes on.

But as others have said, our back five is about 10x better than last season's, and is packed with FL experience. If only we had had them last year. Rawlinson the surprise hit, having come from Vale with mixed views. Midfield has a bit of steel in Doyle & Rose and some flair in Booty and Boldewijn, and up front all three of Dennis, Thomas and Wootton are among the goals. So it's going ok, but I certainly wouldn't be putting my mortgage on us winning the league just yet. I think anything less than the play-offs would be a disappointment now though, having had a look at the league.

Sutton must be really bad. Did not see us winning, let alone scoring tonight.
Have a bit of faith, fellow Shayman, nearly half way through the season and we're still up there where we started and showing no signs of letting the season slip away. Onwards! Upwards! We have a manifest destiny, you can't keep a Great & Historic Football League Club down for ever.

The way it's going a few teams tipped to struggle including Halifax and Barrow could hit the 50 point safety mark by the end of the year if not sooner

I'm so glad we didn't let you down. Return match 15th Feb, one for the diary

Unfortunately I’m on holiday that weekend - shame as I was looking forward to a new ground. We might win another game by then though.

Wouldn't say you struggled at Huish, just profligate in front of goal.

You are joking --One of the worst goalies I've seen at Rovers.

Believe me Slocombe is Lev Yashin in comparison with some of the jokers we’ve had lately.

Anyway, weren’t there er... off the field issues at Rovers?

AFC Halifax founded in 2008. Never played in Football League. You have no history and can't go back to somewhere you haven't been before.

Wrexham need to find a way of finishing above Chorley,Ebbsfleet, Sutton and Aldershot.

Chorley look certain for the drop.

Nah, they're gone*. Aldershot will stay up cos, well, they're Aldershot, and Ebbsfleet are showing signs of life with two wins on the spin.

And we've all seen this before, in this league as well as in L1 and L2 - some fancied side starts off on the wrong foot, the BOD and the fans begin to panic, and the players play with fear. Just sometimes it's better to be a Morecambe whose only aim is to finish 22nd and if they fail to do it then everybody will say it was only to be expected after all. Just look at Notts and Chesterfield or even Stockport, though tbf, in County's case I don't think anybody thought they were a top 5 club, only that there was no danger of them getting relegated to the North.

*though I won't be putting any money on it ;)

I trust you won't be saying anything about 'seeing clear water ahead' this time? Remember what happened when you said that before the Chorley and Bwood games

The ayes have it. Torquay are hereby deducted 2 points for unbrotherly conduct under section xviiiiiii of the Real Brotherhood doctrine. These changes will be reflected in the next table.

I'd like to remind one or two Tin Potters on the thread that I'm not being rude in ignoring you but you all should know by now that you are not permitted to directly engage with me. You know the rules, please ask one or other of my Brothers to put your point forward for you and I will decide whether it is worthy of a reply.

Thank you.

We had a mutually congratulatory encounter in a motorway service station last night with some Barrow fans on their way back from Dagenham. How we laughed at the state of some of our presumptious, Brother clubs. :woo:

No no and no Soup.

Were Pools deducted any points last season for taking needless points off their fellow brothers, when they themselves were neither going up nor down? They even had the cheek to take valuable points off the O's when there was the grave danger of the Evil winning the title.

And anyway, Torquay are in a play off spot right now, just the five points off top spot so they can't afford to be charitable at the mo.

Yes there were. I remember we signed Slocombe from Blackpool & Adam Smith from Northampton and I thought 2 reasonable goalies --- Well in hindsight anyway. Only trouble was we didn't know which one was the worse. They both contributed to Darrell Clark being sacked.

I think Slocombe is a confidence player to a degree. He started really well for us, commanding his area but went through a dodgy couple of weeks and cost us points early September. It took him a while to start commanding his area again but with a strong defence in front of him he's come good again this month and saved us points with some really sharp interceptions coming off his line.
He's a massive improvement on last seasons efforts for us an yway.

Aye maybe he looks better because the two we had last season were just lobbing crosses into their own net every few games, but Slocombe looks a class act to me. Not a particularly flashy shot stopper type but comes for and gets to crosses when he can, distribution is decent, quick off his line etc.

Well lets hope he stays positive as I want to see Notts come back up to the league this season. First team I ever saw play at Ashton Gate Dec 16th 1961. I remember a young Tony Hately.
