I suppose the question is do 6th and 7th deserve the chance 2nd did when for spells this season especially in York’s case they have been no where near deserving of being one win from promotion.

But it on other hand gives the smaller clubs a chance, Kettering were almost in top 7, Curzon until last couple of games were always in the promotion mix.

This time around it’s bigger clubs took advantage of it.

Kiddie run out of steam quite some way off the end of the season. Did they win a game after Easter ?
I think the West Ham game took it out of them. Almost became a defining moment for the wrong reasons.
Your point is sadly replicated down the years, the team in the lowest play off spot gets promoted. Wycombe could do the same again.

True - albeit Wycombe were only 6 points behind 3rd... not 21

Whilst waiting to leave the car park yesterday I spoke to several of your fellow fans who said virtually exactly the same.

With having 8 players missing through injury; one player stepping straight back into the team after a long loan period at Curzon Ashton; some playing out of position (e.g. Keenan Ferguson, the left-back yesterday, is normally a right-back); a change of formation from the last few games and the full-time AFC (after a week's rest) v. part-time BUFC (last played 3 days before) situation, I wasn't too optimistic going into the game.

The whole team dug deep, though and, in Danny Elliott, there's always the chance of a goal. A few penalties included for sure in his tally, but he's on 31 now this season in all competitions. I'd suggest that could easily be 40 if his long-range shooting was more accurate!!

The few AFC Fylde fans I was speaking to in the car park were quite apologetic about your matchday announcer and his 'unsporting and sour grapes' (their words, not mine) comments at the end of the match.

No congratulating Boston as you and they have done, but just a "We'll be back" comment' and then announcing to the Boston supporters and players celebrating together "It's time you all went home now".

Of course, he was duly ignored and, I must admit, that when I heard him say this I just laughed. Perhaps he didn't like the chanting that featured references to James Rowe - but he may have to get used to this?

I quite like the new format tbf. I was more confident going into the playoffs in the league above when we finished 7th once than I was before this weekends game. We were poor against leamington last week. Not sure the games rest helps either 2nd or 3rd. You’d think it would like but it doesn’t seem to be the case

One thing I would definitely scrap is pens if the game is tied - in the event of a draw after 120 mins then the team higher up ought to progress. Wouldn't have made much difference this year mind.

Biggest surprise is Luke Simpson is leaving but he's since confirmed the commute was too far.

Carrington was very good in his 1 year spell.

Nyal Bell was a complete failure and waste of wages

Montrose's legs had gone sadly and Keith Lowe a club legend has retired from ful ltime football as well.

On the play off argument down here people also need to remember the financial aspect.

I can understand the bitterness of finishing 2nd and someone 20 points behind now maybe going up.

But had it been two up the league is dead for about 15 odd teams nearly two months ago which is less home support less away support more dead rubber games.

Then you get situations like in L2 where you can also legitimately argue Bristol r only got promotion as Scunthorpe played their youth side etc etc

There isn’t a real genuine way of determining numerous fully deserved winners because not one side gets a full compliment of tough games vs sides having things to play for.

This play off style gives big advantages to the higher placed sides, this year neither took it.

This is very true. And the attendances have been superb this season in non league football, especially the top 2 tiers. Really impressive.
I watch Lichfield city ( step 5 ) when not at the Pirelli, who average about 150. We had an fa cup qualifying game and the gate was nearly 900. Then, league games went up to 300 for this season. Mixture of fans from other clubs who just fancied a change.
People are looking at alternative sources for football after been priced out further up the pyramid. I think our non league structure is something to cherish and protect. It’s outstanding. Just wish we had more press coverage and perhaps a weekly tv programme on mainstream to show highlights and a round up.
Thank god for non league matters and the non league paper.

Think yourself lucky. In our 4 seasons here (and we are massive) we've finished 9th, 7th (ppg), 7th (ppg) and 16th. I am confident we will at least make the play-offs on results next season under Calum.

To be fair the second season we were neck and neck up there with Kings Lynn & York all season until we had a bad few weeks just before covid struck so slipped and finished 6th on PPG not 7th.

Social media in meltdown tonight,some fans queued for 2 hours outside ground and didn’t get tickets.
Least one thing for sure John Askey has certainly turned this club round.Even if they don’t get promoted the club is finally moving in right direction.

Why did they build the away end so small? It looks disproportionately smaller then the other stands. Could have took it to 9500-10k.
And judging by the demand for this game, the city can fill it on the occasion when needed.

Because they are in dog and duck league and teams bring 20 fans.
Buxton are only team this season to fill it.
The away end has foundations built in to incorporate a double size away end if they get into league.
Club have tweeted they have identified small number of Boston fans buying tickets in York end and have cancelled them,what a shit show.

There will be an accident in that away end at York one day, ridiculously uncomfortable and there were crushes going on when we went and we hardly filled it either but were made to be clustered up together. Horribly designed.

Anyway, good luck to both in the final, should be a good game and atmosphere for it.
