That's exactly what I thought last night as Dover clearly were never interested in going to Wembley.
C'mon on pal, what's the point in making the play off semis if you have no real intention of going up? It's also disrespectful to Grimsby who had to dig deep to overturn the deficit from the first leg.
Dover were never interested in going to Wembley. Can I assume that is a wind up?
In the same way as Dover just didn't really perform in their home leg, I thought Braintree froze a little bit yesterday to be fair. Had they played liked they did a dew days earlier and shown the same intent they would have had a great chance to get to Wembley. But all if's and buts as they clearly didn't.
But to suggest neither they or Dover really wanted to is absurd.
I thought Dover on Saturday were not superb, but certainly impressive and if Hurst watches their two matches it should become clear how to beat them at the weekend.
If they employ the long ball tactic so many of their supporters hate (don't we all by the way) Clough and Racine will repel Grimsby with some ease as was the case at Crabble Wednesday when Dover did exactly that.
However as the return leg proved, get the ball down and run at them there could be much joy offensively, to be had for the Grimsby as Modeste and particularly Miller proved the other night. Attack them and get behind or through them I think Grimsby will win, resort to long high balls and it will surely play to the Strengths of the FGR back four.
