Richardson has gone as well then.

I'm not too fussed by that, decent guy but would always get compared to PC if he stayed.

FWIW, my shouts are Jack, Redfearn, Adkins...after that i really can't think of anyone who fits the profile for the type of club we've become. Sean O'Driscoll maybe?
SOD the God wouldn't go to the likes of chesterfield.

Saunders however...

Reminds me a bit of Appleton being appointed Oxford manager, he managed to get them to a mid table finish after a lot of people expected them to be in a relegation battle. Maybe Saunders will do the same.

Barely anyone expected Oxford to be in a relegation battle?

Very weird appointment from Chesterfield. Tisdale, Burnett or maybe even Ainsworth would be good appointments from League 2.

...all of whom would need to be bought out of jobs. We don't do stuff like that.

Instead we hire the first out of work manager we can find.

The board's big chance to put things right, and they blew it. We've fucked up our whole club in the space of a few days.

I disagree. I gave them no hope and Oxford fans weren't too pleased either at the time.

Maybe league 2 mid table is his place.

Because he was hired by someone even worse.

His interviews are comedy gold, stuff of legends still at our place. I'd hire him just for that alone.

I'm trying really hard to wrap my head around this but no, it's just not happening.

What has gone off at the club behind the scenes? Just a few weeks ago everything seemed fine and then suddenly we're going to go into a new season led by Dean Saunders minus several of our current best players. All this after our best league finish 30 odd years, is it?

You just couldn't make this shit up.

I like Dean Saunders for how good a player he was with us (although before my time), but he's a terrible manager. What are you doing Chesterfield, you idiots!?! :(

Saunders is a mediocre league 1 manager, Chesterfield are a mediocre League 2 club. A real coup for them, not sure why people find this so highly amusing. They took a blow losing their manager to a bigger club, but have brought in a steady replacement in time for the new season, credit needs to go to the board.

Another good season for Chesterfield next year, if Saunders gets you playing his best stuff you could easily finish in mid table.

As if it wasn't embarassing enough losing your highly rated manager to a team a division below, we then hire a replacement who has a reputation only slightly better than Jack the Ripper.

Brilliant work Town.

Come on mate, you can do better than that.

FWIW, I actually agree with most of that, apart from 'Mediocre League 2 club'

We're traditionally a mid table L1 club, only really skewed by the fact we've spent 7 seasons out of the last 20 in the bottom tier. Albeit being promoted 4 times in those 7 seasons. 2 as champions, 1 automatic while our club was being torn to pieces from the inside by a now convicted conman and fraudster and 1 Wembley play off victory.

Try a bit harder next time JJ. :) ;)

Barbara gives the majority of our fans on here a bad image. To be brutally honest she (LuSive) is the main reason I don't contribute much CFC wise in the L1 forum.

I can cope with it on our messageboard, but the constant sniping and negativity we hear from her on here fucks me right off.

Comes across as a full weight thundercunt.

Honestly, and feel free to come back at me LuSive this would be a better forum without you, sweetheart. I honestly think you view your role on this forum as important, and probably tell your friends your job title on here is 'Chief Chesterfield FC Matchday Thread Starter'

Depressive gobshites like you are the reason someone who at one point used to be a prolific poster on Bobs Board, hardly bothers anymore. You're not alone on there though, many of you have achieved that as one.

"Im the Spire Starter, Twisted Spire Starter, You're the bore I hated* , filth infatuated.....

*Okay, bit harsh.... Dislike fits the bill.

Could of been worse, could of appointed Lee Clarke...

Not that it will make you feel any better but when we appointed cotterill many of us dismissed him without giving him a chance, thought it was a terrible appointment.

He then steers us away from the relegation zone, then leads us to our first title in 60 years the following year... Keep the faith chaps!

I'm wish folk would give the guy a chance before writing him off tbh. He took down a Donny side in disarray littered with agent Willie McKay's expensive, over the hill loan signings forced upon him. Built his own squad and had Rovers punching above their weight in L1 and sat at the top of the table when he left to take over a Wolves side in disarray, freefall and already destined for the drop thanks to the fine work of Stale Solbacken, in January and failed to halt their slump.
His next gig a similar situation at Crawley where he just failed to keep them up, after them looking doomed all season and lumbered worn Gregory's signings and no money.
He had a few mediocre seasons at Wrexham when he was cutting his teeth, but left them in a very healthy position before taking up the Doncaster job.

When he's worked with decent players and been able to bring in a few of his own his record isn't as bad as people are making out.

Hill or Redfearn would have been my choices, but fully behind Dean at the minute. Cut the guy some slack FFS.

'Overachieving'?! Did you see the league that year?! Tranmere were our main competitor and Yeovil went up Ffs.

Anything below play offs would have been a shambles after spending 4 years in the league above we were 2nd (which admittedly was acceptable) when he left and even wins felt like draws Ffs.

Yep, fair points. Think it's a bit unfair to judge a manager based on failures at clubs that were in deep shit already when he arrived. I'm of the opinion that a new manager should be backed from the off, until things go tits up. Atleast he will have the whole summer to plan and recruit.

Do you think many players will leave Chesterfield this summer? I'd love Darwika at North End.

Morsy, Clucas and Ryan are all good players too, would be happy with any of them.
