Hope he signs a footballer to replace Jimmy Ryan and not a Derek Niven-type. How good would we have been with him in charge when that was our midfield?

Cook just left a sinking ship it seems.

Nah, it's just not the 'ship' he wanted it to be. Basically he wanted to start throwing the chequebook around in order to improve further, the chairman wasn't prepared to, hence his view that he'd taken us as far as he could.

Chesterfield were 7 points off 12th, but for a few shit decisions and a couple of shots going wide instead of into the net they might have been mid-table this season, hardly a massive step down if you end up there next season. Can see why you'd want to progress and build on this year though.

We've been playing that all season and we've done alright.
Tom, when you've been spoilt for the best part of 2 and a half seasons playing football that's a dream to watch, and scoring for fun(until we thought it was a good idea to sell Doyle). The thought of watching football played how you played over the 2 semi finals hardly excites.
As you know though that's not a slant, I hope you go up.

That said I wish Dean well, and hope he's successful.

Cook however......

Probably gonna renew my ST on Saturday but I'll do it with disdain, I'm gonna make sure everyone who sees me knows I'm doing it with pain in my heart. Can't believe I'm gonna be paying £350 to watch a team managed by Dean fucking Saunders.

And??

Fucking hell. If only Bristol City hadn't knocked 6 past you, Sheffield United and Scunthorpe hadn't scored, the ref had/hadn't given some shit decisions, and a few of your shots had gone in, you'd have been in the playoffs this year. You weren't. Its called football mate.

Your reasoning there is ridiculous.

No it isn't. It's not like you were fucking 15 points clear of 7th was it. You were 4 points and that was largely affected by our game against you in which you won by a single goal which our fucking defender passed the ball to your striker for a one-on-one goal. These are the margins. Then you were a further 3 points away from being 12th, i.e. one shit decision or a few shots wide and then the other team nick a winner, out of 45 games. Calm down you plum.

Or..

And bear with me here, cos it's a crazy thought.

We all have near misses and lucky breaks, but in the end over 46 games the table doesn't lie - and Bradford are the 7th best team in the league, whilst chesterfield are the 6th.

No shit. Would be a good comeback if I'd at any stage said you didn't deserve to finish 6th.

But by saying we were so close to 12th, you were hinting that we should've thanked our 4 leaved clovers that we'd scraped that place - due to a Bradford defender.. Despite us having a big lead going in to the final two games, where we had Bristol and United, and knowing we were already in it.. So the point stands.

Not really. My original point was that you were close to mid-table anyway, you were 'the best of mid-table' if you will, like a wild card at a tennis tournament. At then end of the day you DESERVEDLY won a few more points than everyone else between 6th and 14th and you got to get dicked in the play-offs by an actual good side, like some fuckwit British player getting bageled by Djokovic in the first round whilst he takes breaks inbetween service games to sign autographs and pose for selfies. All of us in the mid-table crew would have done the same. I just didn't really get the consternation that Dean Saunders would be 'dragging you down to mid-table'. It wouldn't be a massive setback, but I admitted I could see why you'd want to progress. I made those points about fine margins because they are valid, with fine margins you could have been 12th. With fine margins we could have been 14th. It was that sort of league this year, very tight.

You crazy,crazy twat.

That's not how it works, come off it.

All down to a mistake from a Bradford defender, you utter buffoon.

Mate, you were the best of mid table, hence you finishing 7th and your season ending on time. 26pts, 9 wins, and other results going your way, away from promotion.

We were the worst of the promotion chasing teams. 3 wins away from the Championship .Big difference between us and you. It's simple really.

Dress it up however you like with points differences etc. Those are the facts.

You were the same difference in points from Preston as you were from Orient in 22nd. 69 points wouldn't have got you in the play-offs any other year since at least 2001 (I stopped looking after this) and the average position of 69 points looked to be about 8 or 9th.

Can see them PNE fans have made you a bit touchy though so I might leave it.

69 is so low that 66 would have been enough.

This is 2015 , not 2001-14 ....so what's your point??

Which PNE fans have made me touchy?? Read the thread again, you'll see that I'm either the only, or one of few who has said I hope they go up.

The only fan Ive had a dig at in this thread supports CFC.

Wise up, sharp lad.

I carried on looking (boredom) and the last time a team got into the third tier play-offs with 69 points was Bolton in 1990. Whichever way you look at it apart from the top 4 the league this year has been pretty even/shit.

Can't see Chesterfield challenging next season, Uncle Dave seems to want his money back and there will probably be a lot of change in the playing staff. Saunders has taken on a bad job here in my opinion, be surprised if he can fill the shoes of Paul Cook.

Yeah I agree, I meant more in terms of Saunders trying to rebuild his reputation this is a bad choice.

Not picked up on this, always like what I have seen of Chesterfield so sorry to see this, Saunders is a complete and utter c***, a dreadful manager and is an "jobs for the boys" case study.

I've just listened to the 40 min dee dar interview with dean Saunders, I thought he came over well.
He has the experience to work with little or no money. Should be a good fit for chesterfield. You sold your top striker, your manager left you to drop down a division.
Chairman not ambitious, just realistic. So should you be.
