Fan ownership is the way - cut your cloth to suit and neither owe nor be owed - accept the words and friendship of an "owner" with due diligence and suspicion as what you once had could now no longer be yours to inherit.

May have worked for you but doesn’t work out in many cases.

We had V2001 a fans consortium but it had so many barriers to “protect the club” that in the end cost the club... added to little investment and greed it ended in complete disaster and administration and potential legal proceedings with fans losing money in shares etc.

Ideally and hopefully we have finally come across this with the Shanahans you need people who care about the club and community but are also business savvy and have a bit of cash behind them or at least the ability to generate it.

The problem with a lot of owners is you get owners that see a football club and think it’s going to make them money and don’t overly care about progressing it. Smurthwaite for example... buys it for £1.2-1.5 millions sells it for around £5 million in a worse state, whilst making money out of it in terms of the Hugill sell on (£1.8 million) and considering the lack of investment you had the Grant, Alnwick, TV and Prize money for the cups last season.

Yet we didn’t have proper working showers, apparently fed players left over pies from the weekend and a ground that was falling apart.

The EFL need to be harder and stricter with the rules around ownership and finance. Under various suggestions after the Bury mess Macc would be on a couple of deductions now for failing to pay their team.

End of the day long term it’s the Macclesfield fans who suffer most and that’s the sad reality of it all, the most innocent party of the lot... the fans, as it was with Vale last season and Coventry/Bolton/Bury/Notts Co/Blackpool (who were superb in helping us get rid of Smurf) etc etc etc.

The Germans have it to a tee actually but probably wouldn’t work here as wages etc are far higher already so how do you get them down!

Latest news is that the players and staff are still on strike as they still haven't been paid. To avoid postponing the Kingstonian game the club will be fielding the youth team instead. And the game will likely have no PA, music, programmes, commentary etc due to volunteers withdrawing their services, and also a mass boycott from fans. Ground staff will be absent as well so we may not get a game at all. BBC final score cameras will be there though so will be interesting to see what attention we get from this.

In other news potential new owner Joe Seeley will be in attendance after talks with Amar earlier this week.

Confirmed that the youth team are playing tomorrow. Odds for Kingstonian win have come in from 17/2 to now being odds on. I've got £50 on when they were 4/1 so could do with the game being on somehow!

The same one as all others in this position, a shite owner who either doesn't have the money to pay the staff in time or refuses to pay on time. No matter which way you slice it, just sell the fucking club, jesus stop clinging on!

I'm torn between being angry at the kids for playing and not blaming them. On the one hand, why go out there and get humiliated by a part time team for no tangible benefit? Why help this crooked owner avoid fines and the bad press an expulsion?

But on the other hand, this could be a show case game for a few of them and who knows when a lot of them will ever get to play in an FA Cup 1st round game again?

It's not that simple though.

Macc have a small fan base of around 1k-1.5k hard core fans. How many of those have the means to regularly put in chunks of money to help sustain the club? A few hundred tops? Do you really think there are enough of them to pump in enough money to sustain even a 6th-7th tier side. Given the finances needed to a run a team, fan ownership is not a viable option for most clubs and I'd imagine Macc are no different.

They seem to rely on paying the players on a big payday game for example Vale taking 2k, relying on the Bradford one that got P-P... probably ideally wanting to use FA Cup prize money to see them through (now lost) until Crewe go there.

Not sustainable and needs propping up if they are to compete at this level. Simple as that but building debts etc players that haven’t been paid, I assume the likes of Evans now at Vale who walked free from his contract due to non payment will still need it paying? As will Sol Campbell and many other players who didn’t? Or has that been settled now from last season?

As for the kids playing I assume as with Bolton it’s a case of the contracts they are on? If they didn’t could Macc easily get rid or risk not being kept on after this season? And a chance to prove themselves. Can’t really blame them and expulsion from next season just hurts the fans and potentially new owners.

I’m assuming they just need the takeover to happen then they’re fine, ala Bolton? Aside from it being awful for Macc, it would be a disaster from a competition point of view if no one was relegated this season.

When we have an owner who refuses to sell or even meet/talk with potential buyers it's never going to be a case of a takeover "just happening" for us sadly.

Sorry I misunderstood, I thought a buyer was there and they were just doing the normal pre sale dance. This type of owner who pretty much wants to run clubs to close is sick, they should be banned from running any business thereafter, football or whatever.

It would be like the old days when Crewe applied for re-election every season.

We are doing just that but it means we cannot get into this League doing so. Not owning our own stadium plays a big part in that though IMO.

Surely they will just put hoses on the pitch over night and get a waterlogged postponement rather than a charge of not fulfilling a fixture.

Fantastic news. 3 games postponed due to international call ups and now this, which is only heading to one possible outcome: no relegation spots this season.

Ambitious clubs looking to go up will not have a better opportunity to do so. The standard of the league this year is piss poor.

If bad weather doesn't strike just seen Macc play Bradford, Crewe, Plymouth and Grimsby (boxing day) all on Saturdays in the next 5 weeks. All will probably bring good away followings, if Macc can't pay December's wages on time after that they have serious problems.

Seems like Macc players will boycott the Crewe game.

With Crewe chasing promotion this could have consequences, as they will surely fill their boots against a team Kingstonian beat 4-0. This is the same issue teams in League One have with Bolton having played a few games with a youth team and pretty much handed a number of opponents a free chance to boost their goal difference.

You can certainly see people in League One pointing back to this if goal difference is a factor in determining something and one of the teams involved were among those who beat Bolton 5-0 early on in the season.

If we end up with a similar situation in League Two now with a handful of teams recording massive victories against Macclesfield's academy side and then things being resolved and Macc going back to being a relatively difficult team to beat then you'd get that here too. Even more drastic if it happens again in the final weeks of the season when teams playing them know what they're playing for.

The owners of these clubs may bear the brunt of the blame but the EFL and FA need to take responsibility for the fact that clubs are so vulnerable down here, and that's on them and the way they run the English football system and if this becomes commonplace then it would totally undermine lower league football.

Macc can't play a youth team due to player registration stuff, apparently. Game will have to be postponed and, according to our local media, we'd appeal for the points to be awarded to us. Like complete shithouses.

Haha that would be a massive shithouse move, can't see it working but can you imagine the furore if it did? Shoud at least provide for a brusque and entertaining exchange of views between the Vale and Crewe fans on this forum and several threads of the stuff.
