You must be mistaken, Crewe are quite simply humungous and would be a HUGE scalp for any team lucky enough to beat them......
We're not 'humungous' but we'd surely be a big name and a potential scalp of some note if we were playing at this low level.
But we're not,thankfully.
We're third division.

Like Oxford, York, Luton, Tranmere, Wrexham, Shrewsbury, Carlisle, Bristol Rovers, Stockport County and Grimsby you mean?

Remarkable statistic... Crewe had to wait 70 years to see their first promotion. They played in the bottom division every season from 1892 until they got promoted for one season in 1963. In fact, in their first 97 years of existence, they only spent 2 seasons outside of the basement league.

MASSIVE.

You can cherry pick all kind of statistics to suit an agenda.
One statistic that is very pertinent, however,is that we're third division and there's plenty in leagues below us who'd love to say similar.

For now maybe.

Tranmere were a couple of seasons ago.

Can you 'cherry pick' the majority of a club's existence?

Games against Crewe were usually rubbish affairs lacking in atmosphere because of the small numbers of home fans. Plus you had to actually go to Crewe. The only good thing about them was making fun of Robbie Savage.

Small numbers of home fans at The Racecourse,I take it you mean?
The games usually drew bumper gates and some extra fun could often be found in the streets outside.

130 hardy Cheltenham fans at Dover for an 8 round trip and live TV game.

Does it take you 4 hours to get to Dover from Cheltenham??

If it does that is very good especially as you say it was on TV and also a 12pm kickoff on a Sunday.

Why has this now turned into talking about a team who aren't In the Conference...

Yep, I remember a particularly feisty trip to Millwall one year when our top boys absolutely twatted theirs at hide-and-seek, hopscotch and Pogs.

Football Purist and his pals would win the hide-and-seek, judging by Crewe's attendances.......

Have people forgotten the purpose of this thread or do we need to rename it "Childish Banter"?

I think 130 is a decent number for a TV game, 3 and half hours (based on Google Maps) away, on a Sunday lunchtime. We've never been well supported, and that was the sort of number we were taking away in the Football League to standard Saturday games.

I know a group of fans who went over to France on Saturday to watch Lille-Troyes. I on the other hand watched it on telly, whilst I was doing the ironing.

Nope. Maybe for some of the Mickey Mousers, like Macclesfield for example, but some of us remember you've been shitter than Big Shit MacShitter of Shitsville for most of your history. Never mind though you'll be a welcome addition to the Billy Big Bollocks Conferderation of Great and Historic Former Football League Clubs down here. Looking forward to meeting up again. :ds:

Nah not even for us, beat Crewe Alexander enough times in the last 10 years.

Even we wouldn't view Crewe as a big scalp. Our Football League record against them reads won 30, drawn 30, lost 32. If ever there there was a damnation to being bang average, then that is it.
