I once went to Ibrox and they announced the attendance at over 40,000, but it was well under half full.

I suspect that's just the 'official' bullshit line that all clubs would trot out.

It is not at Prenton Park. Season ticket holders and cash payers go through the same gates, so the attendance figure is the number of clicks on the turnstiles.

What difference does that make?
All football grounds have turnstiles that one has to click through, whether you're paying cash, have a pre-bought tIcket or are the holder of a season ticket or even a comp.
It's easy enough for any club, surely,to work out the actual attendance rather than just to announce how many tickets they've sold/given away.

I thought they gave the away fans that smart new stand behind the goal.

They do and its shared with home fans since relegation but due to some incidents at the away fixture decision was taken to stick them in there.

How would you differentiate the people who have paid cash on the day from the number of season ticket holders in attendance if they go through the same turnstiles ? You could not add the total number of season ticket holders to the total number of people paying cash, because you would not know how many people had paid cash.

The only way of determining an 'attendance' figure under that syatem would be to count the number of clicks on the turnstiles, ie. the actual attendance.

Or they could tally up the amount of cash taken and work out how many have paid cash by dividing that figure by the admission prices, providing adults, juniors, oap's etc use separate turnstiles.

As far as I am aware, different age categories don't use different turnstiles in all of our stands.

In any case, our attendance figure is announced at about 4.10pm. So I find it highly unlikely that the cash count has been completed for every turnstile, reported, and those calculations made by that time, for every home game.

I'm led to believe it's the same in the Prem and EFL too.
Just a bit of propaganda by football's governing bodies to make the sport look more popular.
Well no that's bullshit, our game at home to Pompey in December our twitter an hour before kick off said that over 7000 tickets had been issued, then later the official attendance was announced as 6560.

Perhaps they all stayed in The Imp for the afternoon.

Also worth highlighting that we sold 1325 tickets for Wrexham but reported as 1279.. assume some didn't turn up on the day. So they are still counted for away fans at least.

Given the small home turnout did you and the Macclesfield entourage consider,at any point,an attempt at infiltrating with a view to ultimately taking, the home Kop?

Decent numbers pro rata.
Would certainly suggest an infiltration of the home end was a possibility with maybe,if tactics are deployed well,a full take.

What is it with Crewe fans and infiltrating and ultimately taking the home end? Be interesting to see if they actually try it when/if we ever play them. Long way round to the home end. Would be fun though.

Going off Google maps it is a 480 mile round trip so that is bloody excellent support IMO.

Doff of the cap to the 59 Bromley supporters at York too which would have been a similar mile round trip, if not slightly more.

Indeed, terrific by both!

I'm interested to see what ours will be after next week, with trips to Gateshead, Macclesfield, and Wrexham within the space of six days.

If you can only afford one journey come to us as probably the one you're most likely to win. Also with Gateshead you've got just as good a view of the pitch staying in Kent.

They were bloody fantastic too. Unreal scenes in the away end when they pulled it back level at 22.

Shout out to Paul Doswell aswell. Got abit of stick from the home fans and gave it back, all good harmless fun. Wished us well after the full time whistle and thanked us for the 'warm welcome' credit to him must of been tough to take given what had just happened.
