The end looks like nigh for Ilkeston and we finally have a date.

They are in court for a winding up order on June 2nd, Unless this rumoured takeover which has been rumbling on for weeks now actually happens....

17/18 -The TL,DR Version:
ONE Relegation from Prem,North and South
TWO+Playoff from North and South
BEST THIRD in AGM Cup also promoted

Worth noting that the AGM cup rules (i.e. best PPG) apply over all 6 of the step 4 divisions, rather than just the 2 NPL regional divisions (I know you know this, just making it clear for casual readers). Playoffs will be 3rd to 6th, except in the division where an extra team goes up, then it's 4th to 7th. Could lead to an odd situation at the end of the season in one of the divisions where it is in both teams interests for one of them to win (and achieve the highest PPG)...

Given that one team only is to be relegated from each divisions, and the FA in previous seasons took a stance that whoever finishes bottom is relegated no matter what and is not available for a reprieve, it will be interesting to see what stance they announce if there are genuine AGM cup candidates. Extra promotions? If so how? Giving reprieves "just this once"?

More good news for Ilkeston Alan Hardy says he just had to help save Ilkeston!

The Notts County owner stepped in to ensure the club doesn't die having purchased it from liquidators last week. He stressed a love for local football was behind rescuing the Robins, who have endured a terrible time in recent years.

They will be playing at Step 6 in the Midland League Division One and Hardy says it was a purely emotional decision.
Fantastic news for the faithful Ilkeston supporters that have stood by their club through thick and thin and now lets, now hope all the talking will be on the footy pitch.

I know i shouldn't say this, but I think they've got a decent chance that they'll bounce back up.
They've done some great work throughout the summer recruiting.
Three good signings from Salford City Jordan Hulme, John Johnston and James Poole. And also one or two others.

Evening all.

Not sure whether there will be any action in this thread after tomorrow. If I'm not talking to myself, I shall pop in from time to time. The squad looks good on paper, and has had a pretty good pre-season, last week's defeat at Trafford apart.

Stafford Rangers tomorrow, who were one of the first teams I'd have seen Altrincham play, around 1985 / 86. I'm actually looking forward to it.

Scarborough Back Home

Scarborough Athletic and Hyde United cancelled each other out in a tight opening day encounter, as it finished 0-0 at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

A fantastic crowd as well for Boro, 1,385 for an evo-stik north match

Our forum is going predictably mental. After one competitive game, this season has a whiff of last season to it.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
to be fair eighties may from next weekend just whack the two leagues together for chat, may be easier and give you somewhere to go.

That result of yours was a shock.....mostly because it did at least look like you had a very strong squad, saying that Stafford i think are a strong side at that level so it could be a one off.

Stafford looked okay, no great shakes but much bigger / stronger than Alty. Once they went 2 up you knew it was all over. We weren't going to score yesterday, even had a penalty saved (3-0 down with 5 mins to go, so immaterial).

James Poole was suspended yesterday, and Josh Amis was missing after appendicitis. Our 3rd sub was introduced to his team mates at training on Thursday, a very Neil Young / Jim Harvey / Matt Doughty move. Jordan Hulme (ex-Salford) was spectacularly ineffective yesterday, which was a big disappointment. A couple of porky lads on display yesterday, for both sides.

I think the scoreline is a bit harsh on yourselves after the amount of dominated possession from Alty!
You've got a really good player in John Johnston, he'll cause a lot of defenses a few problems when he gets in behind them. You've got a lot of good players, so this a minor blip.

Hartlepool United legend Humphreys joins Sheffield FC

Hartlepool United legend Ritchie Humphreys has joine EVO-STIK League South side Sheffield FC.

The former Sheffield Wednesday star made his debut in Sheffield's 3-0 defeat at Carlton Town on Saturday. His longest stay at a club was during his time at Hartlepool, where he made just under five hundred appearances.

Humphreys was part of the Pools side that came within minutes of taking the club into the Championship, as they led 2-1 against former club Sheffield Wednesday in the League One play-off final in 2005.
However, his former club would go on to seal promotion with a 4-2 win in extra time.

Humphreys has also been chairman of the PFA since 2013.
