What happened with Dion Donahue. He looked useful when he played for us.
was only involved in about 2 games I think - i think he's possibly a guy who has his own demons to deal with - but might be wrong

Wilson i would have kept as he's young - so possibly.
I know people on our forum might not be thrilled at the idea - but i have a suspicion Oxley who was at Southend will be one of our keepers next season.

What makes you suspect that? Surely it's got to depend on who comes in as boss? He looked okay against us.

partly as he's from the North and on Southends forum the rumours are he's joining a North West based L2 side.

Crawley's released list.

Mark Wright (TV personality)
Joe McNerney (centre half)
Stuart Nelson (keeper)
David Sesay (full back)
Tarryn Allarakhia (att midfielder)
Josh Doherty. (Left back...on loan at Colchester)

McNerney surprised me. Played most of the second half of the season due injuries and although not the greatest footballer the league has ever seen he is a solid head all day centre half and said to be a positive influence in the dressing room. The power headed goal v Bradford was one of my highlights. Someone is going to get a decent player and good egg.

I would have kept Sesay. Full back who can play either side but Yems never picked him so it was expected. Decent enough for league 2.

I dont think Allarkhia is quite up to league 2 standard but is a willing runner and when given sub appearances has always done what's asked of him. Maybe Borehamwood beckons as I believe he lives not far from there.

Dannie Bulman still having talks. I expected him to retire so I presume a full time coaching role.

Options taken up

Jack Powell (midfield)
Tunnicliffe (centre half)
Nichols (forward)
Morris (keeper)
Rick German (forward )

German surprised me. Not seen since October. Rumours of fitness issues and a love of pies. Yems did say he rated him but he is never picked so something must have happened.

New contracts have been offered to four players and the Club will report further news on these in due course:

Brad Barry

Lewis Hardcastle has now formally retired from professional football due to ill health, but we continue to offer support to him and his family and offer best wishes for his next step.

The following players have been released at the end of their contracts and the Club would like to thank them for their efforts and wish them every success in the future:

Calvin Andrew
Courtney Baker-Richardson
Dion Donohue
Callum Gribbin
Sam Hird
Josh Kay

Scott Moloney
Mikael Ndjoli
Morgan Penfold
Chris Taylor
Scott Wilson
Yoan Zouma

The Club is currently reviewing its backroom team and further discussions are due to take place with Sam Hird and Josh Lillis in the coming days.
Looks like we are taking on Sam Hird as backroom staff according to our local news this morning. Can’t say I know anything about him...

Evatt's central defensive partner at Chesterfield, Been at Barrow the last 3 seasons (2 of which Evatt was boss).
Played for the 1st 2 and a half seasons, but assisted Rob Kelly since Kelly replaced Michael Jolley
Chesterfield fans thought he was the more likely of the 2 to be a good manager.
He would play good cop to Evatt's bad cop....

Sounds good for us then. I hope he knows how to organise set pieces as we are shite at them....

Shaun Miller, Arthur Gnahoua, Sonny Graham, Callum King-Harmes, Muhammadu Faal, Jak Hickman and Jamie Mascoll will officially depart the University of Bolton Stadium at the end of June while second year scholars Markus Assarsson and Nathan Whalley will also leave.

Loan players Billy Crellin, Declan John, Dapo Afolayan, Lukas Jensen, Ben Jackson and Zack Elbouzedi have returned to their respective clubs.

We would like to thank the players leaving Bolton Wanderers for their efforts throughout their time with the club and we wish them well for the future.

Talks regarding new contracts remain ongoing with Alex Baptiste, Harry Brockbank, Ryan Delaney, Matt Gilks, Lloyd Isgrove and Andrew Tutte, while discussions are also taking place with second year scholars Ryan Colvin, Jay Fitzmartin, Fin Lockett and Luke Hutchinson.

I know we're not L2 next year, but a couple of those released may be, plus any we potentially don't agree a deal with. (Assume Tutte and Delaney offered squad player status)

Miller and Gnahoua the 2 that I expect will be picked up, probably by one of the NW teams. The others are either young or experimental signings. Faal and Hickman probably end up in the NL as they have been loaned there.

I’m a bit surprised on Delaney and Tutte. I think both of them will be bottom of the pecking order for their positions if they stay. Good cheap back ups and Tutte is a good pro but they haven’t played much. Maybe he is trying to save money on the squad players with those 2 so we can afford Dapo and Declan John.

From the contracted ones I would expect Comley, Greenidge, Gordon and Crawford to be moved on/loaned out. Think we will bring in at least 4/5 permanent signings and 4/5 loans to try to compete in league 1.

Agree with both. If either had started a game or 2 in our busy period it would have been more understandable. But there doesn't seem like they had the trust to keep the same standard we were playing at.

Most of the others you mention are now looking like league 2 players. Think Crawford could be good for someone still.

Mansfield?

Good luck to him, did very well once Hurst came in and put him at CB next to Menayese, not so great at RB and Midfield though prior to that.

Also been relegated twice in 3 years now with two sides, make of that what you will.

Hewitt’s alright, pretty standard League Two player. At his best for us in central midfield under Nolan when we were a very direct, niggly team, think he’d struggle there in a passing one. Always pretty bad at right back, generally okay at centre back although he didn’t play there much for us.

Hope King Arthur & Ole Gunnar Miller get decent moves where they can start games & enjoy their football. Their late winners when called upon won't be forgotten

Clough loves somebody who can play in a few positions, because he only wants 17/18 ‘established’ players. Hence why he likes Perch so much.

Hewitt and Menayese played 12 games as CB's together in a back 4 only conceding 11 goals. We conceded 58 in our other 34 games!

Looks like Hewitt made 37 lge appearances in total for us last season, think the majority were at RB with a few in midfield until he went to CB against FGR in March.

I’m not sure about Menayese next season, he’s under contract and not been made available for transfer like Stech or O’Keefe, maybe another loan is on the cards.

Hewitt was an entirely different beast at centre back, he was excellent and would’ve won a POTS had we had one.

Mansfield are rather predictably going to have a Menayese/Hewitt partnership at CB and fair play to them, I’m of the opinion it’s a play-off level pairing.

Rawson will be one of our first choice, and we will be signing another CB I think so it’s likely neither will be starters, but anything can happen I suppose.

Taking away the fact we got relegated as the cb pairing was nothing to do with that, Clough would be mad not to consider what is a proven, ready made pairing.

Posted the defensive stats with them two above. Looking at the table from say 1st Feb after Hurst had made all his signings we had a very similar record to Mansfield, we were a goal scorer away from getting to safety (turning some draws into wins) but defensively we were far better once Mayenese came in and even more so once Hewitt was paired with him.

Not saying Hewitt and Menayese are top players, but Menayese is still young and both at CB are good enough as a lge 2 defensive pairing, but probably not one that's going to win the league on there own.

That said, as I posted in the conf forum when it was announced Hewitt had turned down the contract offer, I have mixed feelings, prior to moving to CB he is average at best and the less players in our squad from last season the better, but there are far more still under contract that need paying off quickly over Hewitt leaving, but for those games at CB towards the end he probably did enough to win player of the season (not a great achievement considering his competition!)

It wasn't once Hurst came in, not sure what sort of manager Clough is, Hurst is obviously very defensive so maybe got better out of them than Clough will, who knows.

Clough though obviously sees something in Hewitt to sign him, and Menayese to keep him on after loaning him out.
