Newcastle's two record signings are Michael Owen for £16m in 2006 and Alan Shearer for £15m in 1996. Does any other team in the Premier League have club record transfers that are more than 10 and 20 years old? With modern inflation, it's astonishing.

especially when you consider we're among the top 10 english clubs in terms of revenue, and have one of the lowest wage bills in the division. shearer signed in '96, so not only is that transfer fee not included in those figures but the money spent during that decade was rarely spent on first choice strikers. 20 years later we're spending £5mil on a stoke reject to lead the line.
What's the latest with the buyout, it seems to have went very quiet. Not looking good to bring in players of the quality you need if this gets delayed any longer. It was meant to be done by Christmas wasn't it?

Everton football club have broken the Premier League record for highest percentage of season holders i can reveal. This after having their worst season for a long time.
Must be all getting in before the big move to the docklands new stadium i guess.
#wegothegame

Does that mean that Everton has the most loyal fans in the PL?

RIP Cyrille. A hell of a player by all accounts and a classy guy who rose above the abuse he suffered from.

A shame for the club and fans but no more than Ashley deserves. And if Benitez does leave and they end up dropping again, they won't be coming back up anytime soon, certainly not on the first attempt like last time. Rafa is too good for the money being spent there, having to beg to make purchase. He could do so much better elsewhere, and there won't be a lack of offers.

On a side note it's a shame for Everton that I can't imagine he will ever go there after being at Liverpool for so long and his standing at Anfield (nor do I think Everton fans would accept him). But unlike Allardyce, Benitez is a manager who could actually take them to the next level with the right investment and support.

Rafa will leave.

He really should. The club (aside from the fans) have done nothing to support him, so why should he bother trying to manage a championship standard side, its a futile effort and not worth the time or energy.

Wenger said that Mike Dean isn't honest and a disgrace..

Maybe but same could be said for his own players at times?!

To go back to what was said earlier, whilst you have to feel for the fans, you have to laugh at the prospect of Ashley turning down £250-£300m only for the club to fall in value to £100m if they're relegated.

Benitez needs to get out of there quickly. The place is toxic.

Ex-Bristol City striker Andersen, talking on a weekly Danish podcast called Fodboldministeriet, said: “He had exactly the same voice.

"Maybe the voice comes from eating rainworms (Danish term for earthworms), because every time we trained, he used to eat rainworms.

“Yes, he did. It was horrible, I’ve never experienced anything like it. It was like: ‘whoops, there’s a rainworm’ and then he ate it.

“It was a bit disgusting and very strange. He was a good player, and I enjoyed being around him, but the thing with the worms was really strange.

I bet he was good at playing "Earthworm Jim" and eating earthworms gives him "superpowers" too

The French are eating frogs and snails and they're good at football too :D (maybe the three lions should taste it or, better, try Sauerkraut like we do....:D)

Mike Ashley, "Fit & Proper Person Qualified".... absolute joke. Yet again the fans that lose out, as always seems to be the case.

Flanagan gets 40 hours community service for battering his missus. Don't understand the leniency there tbh, and I hope LFC sack him asap.
