No evidence despite the referee and other players being as close to the action as Holgate, so only right no action was taken. Especially given that all the players nearby and the referee were interviewed and none heard what Holgate alleged.

Hopefully it was a case of Holgate being mistaken rather than the alternative.

That would be almost impossible as it would require Firmino prove it was a deliberate lie rather than a mistake. Even the investigation, despite making it clear not one player backed up Holgate's accusation (including his own team mates presumably) specifically stated there was no reason to believe the accusation was malicious in Holgate's part.

The push into the billboards was something else. It made Holgate look like a petulant little cnut.
