I don't know anyone who dislikes oatcakes. They're a bit like a savoury pancake and there are a number of Oatcake shops dotted around North Staffordshire. These shops either serve them in dozens or half dozens and you can fill and heat them up yourself or they offer them with hot fillings such as cheese or cheese and bacon. I'm telling you, you need to get these in your life - perfect for breakfast or with a fry up. I'm having some later!

You can order them from High Lane Oatcakes (search on Google) and they'll send them to you vacumn packed. Then simply add some grated cheese and perhaps some bacon, heat under a grill and enjoy! I'm telling you, you won't regret it!
So basically they are like Findus Crispy Pancakes, except you have to assemble them yourself?
The north is weird!

We have a very slim chance of the playoffs; Vale have a better chance (and a reasonable run in).

Looking at the fixtures, our game in hand is Gillingham at home, which is not straightforward at all.

Nevertheless, we were the last team to fall out of the playoff race in both our seasons in L1 under Keith Hill, so it ain't over until the late Hattie Jacques sings... :)

I don't think either of us has much chance if I'm being totally honest, but it's nice to at least have something to play for rather than our recent form of straggling for a mid-table finish.

Good god no - nothing like a Findus Crispy Pancake - they're rank. They're softer, don't have a crispy coating and are delicious. You can assemble them yourself or they can be filled for you in the shop, ready to eat. As I've told other southerners who weren't convinced, just try them! I've got people from all areas of the country hooked.

Me mam who was born and raised in Hanley (before moving to the better end of Staffs) is 84 and still knocks up a dozen of the best oat cakes on earth every week.
They are the size of a dinner plate and the best way to eat is make a doorstep with 4 cakes, place 1on the plate with bacon, cover with next cake and add fried mushrooms, then grilled cheese add 2 fried eggs, black pepper and a generous splash of Lee and Perrin's.
Wash those beauties down with a couple of pints of Marston's pedi (another Staffs delicacy) and you're in heaven
They are the hidden gem of the culinary world and if Jamie Oliver etc had bothered to use them the whole country would be eating them instead of that shit pappy bread that's no good for you.
Oh and by the way game to end 1-1

Seeing this has turned into a thread on oatcakes(absolutely no complaints from me), I can remember buying some in Benidorm !
My kids who are all in their 20's now grew up in Burton on Trent but all were raised on the mana from heaven oatcake. I still visit Silverdale regularly and always stock up on oatcakes, either from Oatcake Annie's in Fenton or Locketts in Longport. Exhiled Stokie's in Burton all order them if they know I am going. My favourite Oatcake shop used to be The hole in the wall up Eastwood Hanley but it is no longer with us.
I will be delighted with a point on satdee up Vale Park no mither !

I haven't looked forward to a game so much all season. Can't explain why either. It's a bit of a local game, admittedly, but it's not even that. Or the fact they're top of the league and we're in good form. I've just suddenly become ridiculously positive after Saturday's remarkable comeback at Peterborough, and I've already made plans for Shrewsbury away on Good Friday.

I fully expect to be brought back down to my knees, metaphorically speaking, at 5pm, Saturday, as we inevitably lose our long unbeaten home record of 14 games with a whimper and an annoying 0-1 defeat to a Mark Duffy strike (who else, hey?), and a plethora of Vale fans coming out with 'haven't got a clue how they're top of the league', 'they were there for the taking', 'that shows how bad this league is if they're the benchmark' etc.. on Radio Stoke post-match. Can see it now.

Please prove me wrong, Vale. Just this once? It'd be the difference between an average and a brilliant following to Shrewsbury next Friday and will really kickstart the belief amongst our fans that we can actually make a go at this until the end of the season. We're mathematically safe (like we were ever going to be in danger anyway with the shite in the bottom 6) so we've got absolutely nothing to lose. 9 cup finals, so to speak. Let's go for the throat. No defensive tactics. No negative approach. Attack, attack, attack attack attack, as Manchester United supporters would say.

the last waltz has had a mare here. never lived in staffs mesen but life w/o oatcakes is unthinkable. I'm almost as happy w derbyshire oatcakes tbh but staffs just have the edge. I've introduced a load of southern mates to them and they all love em honestly if you haven't tried them you're missing out big time.

currently trying to cut down on meat but haven't really found the right veggie oatcake filling beyond cheese and hot sauce. tried cheese, tomatoes, rocket and basil but it doesn't quite work and I felt like a ponce. any suggestions? for now I'll just let myself off and stick with bacon n cheese.

decided to come up for this game cos the train is cheap but I get in at 10, anything good to do in S-o-T besides eating oatcakes and getting drunk?

See what I mean. Never lived in Staffs and started putting green shit on an oatcake. So fucking offensive.

Waltz. Finders pancakes? At what point when you're being told they go well with bacon and cheese, did you associate those with finders pancakes? Think before you type!!

Just have my recipie without the bacon, that should bring the ponce level down from 10 to about 7.
As for what to do in Stoke before game, I suggest eat more oat cakes and fire plenty more Pedigree down your neck, that way you'll forget where you are which in Stoke might be no bad thing

Well personally I am still more of a Pie 'N' Mash and Jellied Eels type of bloke, but in order to enter into the spirit of the whole thing I will be wearing this little badge tomorrow at Southend.
I hope you all print one off and wear one tomorrow too.View attachment 2936

I know about as much about oatcakes as you (ie, sod all) and I appreciate that every where's in the north looking from Kent, but can we get one thing straight? Stoke isn't in the north.

Coming from Cornwall, anywhere north of the M4 is 'up north' in my book

Embarrassing performance aided by an obscene refereeing performance. Forgot everything we've done this season at home, too negative and playing to Burtons long all rather than getting it on the deck.

Goals were laughable although how we didn't get a free kick in the build up to their second is anyone's guess.

Got to change it and go at them!

Awful and a complete horror show! Reminded me of the embarrassment after losing 1-4 at home to Macclesfield.

Worrying performance and atitude

We deserved the hammering we got today, we never looked like scoring and Burton easily won without breaking a sweat. The ref was really poor but I'm not gonna blame him for the defeat

Just home, still seething at that, I left my heavily a pregnant missus at home, drove 90 minutes away to watch them, and I get that back, a total lack of effort which is inexcusable.

We totally ditched everything we had done well all season, some comical defending to gift Burton a two goal lead at half time, the first was comedy, the second even worse! We were negative against a side that is Burton not Barcelona and for some reason we insisted on hoofing long balls all game rather than play our usual brand.

I'm really pissed off at the manner of that and how much we contributed to our own failure this afternoon, it's the first time at home I've questioned the attitude and effort but it just wasn't there today at all, Burton played like in a cup final, we played like lads having a Sunday morning knockabout after a heavy night and I can't accept that.

Don't think one single player was at the races today, it's hard enough if two or three are below par but when the lot are your on a hiding to nothing.

Referee was abysmal, let Burton get away with countless fouls whilst pulling us up for everything but that's more of a side note in the end.

Burton played well although didn't need to do much. Maybe a reality check, I wish Burton well but they'll finish bottom next season by a good ten points or so in all reality such will be the gulf in facilities and finance so based on today we clearly aren't ready for a crack at the next level yet.

One good old fashioned ass kicking. Congrats to Burton, lot of respect for them. Hopefully they go up though am sure they will.

As for Vale same old really, every time you think we may get into the playoff race the team goes and shits the bed.

Didn't see that performance coming to be honest, especially at home, we've thrown in the odd real shocker away I.e. Exeter but this is probably even worse than that! We've generally been in teams faces when they've got the ball, none of that from us today although Burton were exceptional at that today, always had two men on us when we had the ball. A very different title winning side to Bristol City and Wolves of the past two seasons ,not pretty, not individually talented but one very hard working efficient unit.

Woops. Back down to earth.

Fair play to Burton. A 4-0 win at Vale Park, especially this season, is a cracking result. Proved why you'll be in the Championship next season.

But today showed why we are no where near good enough to challenge for the play offs or promotion.

Poor forward options will be our downfall and has been all season. Plus the fact McGivern and Duffy are due a clanger so often. JJ Hooper is way out of his depth by the way.

It's rob page who's out of his fucking depth

0-4 at home to Burton Albion, with Theo Robinson and Ryan McGivern in the squad. What kind of fucking bizarro world is this
