1–2 loss at home to Boston United. Can't believe how bad we are. There are simply no signs of a team in there yet. First time I've dreaded the start of the season.

Not good :(

Scant consolation I know but I watched Park Avenue v Barrow yesterday. It was pretty dire but Avenue did eventually put a few moves together late on for their two goals. Barrow on the other hand could only manage a shot against the post from five yards. I'd be rather worried if I was a Barrow fan :(

Yeah, given their cutbacks, along with Gateshead's and to a lesser extent, D&R's and The Vision's, I expect them all to be struggling this season. The problem is we've gone full-time, and that fact alone has convinced a big chunk of our fanbase, up until these friendlies at least, that We're Going Up!, which... isn't that simple.

At least Barra seemed to have some efforts on goal. But with us, the team cohesion at present is so bad that I fear we'll have farcical league performances initially that will be similar to our efforts in the 2015/16 season. We've blown our incoming money so far on half a side of early 20s players who haven't experienced a full season of senior football anywhere. So not only do we have no coordination as a team, but the manager has saddled himself with chasing up all these youngsters who may need a lot of guidance to simply play in a way befitting grown men. Then we seem to be in a stand off with the fans, who have no real reason to stump up for very expensive season tickets, to buy them in order to free up funds to sign several trialists we've had all pre-season that would make up a full squad ready to go next Saturday.

I tend to be hyped for the new season whatever the weather, but this time around my stomach's in knots. Could excuse everything else if I'd actually seen us link up in some recognisable way pre-season, but it feels so far like we've mucked going full-time up with a blatherskite manager.

Stockport County
Stockport County (Ash Palmer) 1-1 Macclesfield Town (Harry Smith)

A well contested game on Saturday ended in stalemate as the two teams pretty much cancelled each other out in open play and each scored from a corner.

Macc had some giants in thier ranks (Fiacre Kelleher and Harry Smith most notably), and played some really good flowing stuff early in the first half. The young man of the team (Danny Whitaker) running things as he always seems to whenever I've watched him with two speed merchants down the wings (Koby Arthur and Miles Welch-Hayes).

We stuck to our guns well and defending resolutely until Harry Smith got the run on his marker to power home the opener from a Michael Rose corner.

County's equaliser came around 10 minutes later, Ashley Palmer meeting Sam Walker's corner with a powerful header at the far post to beat the keeper and Danny Whitaker on the line.

Both teams then rather largely cancelled each other out. Frank Mulhern hit a strike which thundered off the cross bar in the 2nd half, and had Palmer gambled on another sublime Walker delivery he could have grabbed a brace.

Overall a good workout against a team now 2 divisions above us **shakes head**. We look prepped and ready for the season to begin on Saturday at home to FCUM.

We beat a Chesterfield XI of youth players and fringe players and a handful of first teamers 2-0. We never really looked in much danger and I dont really understand why Allen didnt player a stronger side.

Well I cant bloody wait for Saturday. Billy Heath has down a cracking job so far. All things considered Pre season cant have gone any better and boy have we impressed against Burton and Chesterfield in recent matches. No reason to fear anybody in our league. Bring it on!
Knowing the team would basically be ressies was why I didn't bother and went to the T20 in Chesterfield instead. Looked a decent crowd on the highlights but didn't sound like we covered ourselves in glory at all.

Last PSF at Matlock tonight.

Yeah. Pretty poor performance. Are the highlights avaliable for free anywhere?

Seems your playing the same team at Matlock tonight.

XI match against Greenwich Borough tonight, with a few fringe players supplementing da yoof. Good to see Dale Gorman making a belated preseason appearance.

Our youth team smashed NLS side Hampton & Richmond 3-0.

They have been far more impressive than our 1st eleven, expect some of them to be in the team sooner rather than later.

Greenwich Borough 0-4 Leyton Orient XI. First year pro Sotiriou, a brace from Mooney and youth player Brendan Shabani with the goals.

Pissed it 4-0. Couple of goals for David Mooney, which should help his fragile confidence.

We won 3-2 at a little non league team called Total Network Solutions Wrexham or something. Think they play in the league of Wales?

Closer then it should have been but it was their cup final, not often a bunch of brickies, window cleaners and dustmen get to play against top pros from one of the great 92. Something to tell their grandkids about.

bless. one season in the league..... :brill:

My word you made that so boring to watch at times. I’m all for keeping possession but some of the possession you had was unbelievably safe and uninspired. When you actually passed it forward you looked dangerous down the wings, the left back in particular. We kept Doidge out of the game as I expected him to be much better, but maybe his head is elsewhere up the leagues..
I thought it was a pretty even game though. We both had chances and better quality from us and we could have scored more. Apart from the 2nd goal, I think the goals we conceded were quite soft and hopefully we’ll tighten it up when the season starts. Also that guy who came on in the second half for you has to be the tiniest player I’ve ever seen. The tackle Roberts planted on him near the end was basically child abuse.
It was also odd to see your keeper (Montgomery?) wasting time near the end.

Positives for us: Summerfield (what a player he looks). Fondop is someone who will actually battle and bully centre halves this season. Hinds had some moments of quality and intent to take people on. Finally, Beavon does not look 34 on the pitch, he showed some flashes of brilliance, great close control and looks good aerially.

3-0 win over Cardiff City's under 23's last night (Stuart O'Keefe and Omar Bogle the only senior squad players involved).

I'm a big fan of their coach's quote post-game however, "It was a cup final for Wealdstone even though it’s pre-season. They were bang up for it and had a point to prove." I'll let everybody else decide whether or not that is tinpot thread worthy, utterly ludicrous or both.

That's our style, proper sophisticated tiki taka, dominate possession and stay patient until a gap appears. Probably not used to seeing football played like that down here....

Time wasting? Tbf we normally take ages over goal kicks, throw ins, corners etc even when we're losing lol.

Tiny lad is Isaac Pearce, just got him from Fulham, reminds me a bit of Marcus Kelly.

I wouldn’t call it tiki taka, because that’s much faster. This was just centre mid, to right back, to centre mid, to centre back, to left back, to centre mid. We made it look better than it was first half because for some reason the players didn’t push up the field. Much better the second half and your time on the ball shrank. I’ve no problem with a possession style, but I’d find it hard to watch that week in week out, especially if the game isn’t going well.

Fair enough then. It was just so evident near the end how long the keeper was taking to take the free kick.

Because he’s blonde and small? Yes, yes he does, Chris..

I can vouch for what ChrisFGR says here about it not being timewasting, our game last season we were 1-0 up and FGR down to 10 men and they were still passing it between keeper and defenders and back again even at 85+ minutes, I guess that when doing that when they're winning it would appear like time wasting but as they do it all the time whatever the score then it definitely isn't, it's just their style.
