Drew 1-1 with a strong Newcastle side.

Barkhuizen again.

Read DJ was man of the match, sounds like he's going to benefit under Neil's style, it's been good on the eye so far.

Ben Davies looking like this could be his proper breakthrough year as well.

Yeah DJ was class again. Played like a man possessed. Flying into challenges, sliding, going on mad runs, always wanting the ball etc.

Davies has surprised me too. He's come on leaps and bounds. Looks like a man now and not a lost little lad. Obviously benefited from his loan spells away.

I'm a Hugill fan but he was poor again yesterday. He looks so out of place in our new system of moving the ball around at pace along the deck. He looks slightly distracted as well, to me. A bit like Macken when there was the initial speculation of a big money move away.

Harrop looked promising in his brief cameo. Superb touch, very cultured. Similar to Pearson in that he looks extremely relaxed and confident with the ball at his feet. McGeady who?!

All in all, a very promising pre season so far. We look like a different animal than when under Grayson. Neil's philosophy of possession and high tempo passing seems to suit our players brilliantly.

Looking forward to the start of the season now.

Edit to add: Callum Robinson needs to work on his shooting. Jesus.

Finished off our Portugal training camp with a 0-0 draw with top flight side Vitoria. Another game closer to the big kick off.

I think Robbo has looked sharp this pre-season, three good finishes, his shooting from distance is usually dodgy though I agree. Sorts that out and he will be absolute class.

Tend to agree about Hugill in this system but we still need to hold out for big money as he'll still bag given service.

The way Shrewsbury tackle, why do they call them "friendlies"?

Worst bit was the "you're fucking worse than the Villa" chants. Because it was true.

For those doing accas in a few weeks, don't even think of a home win at Molineux. 3-0 Middlesbrough. We look exactly like we were last season. Only a lot more expensive.

It's like when you take part in a Grand Prix in a Fiat Punto one season, and you do shit and everyone says you're mad and you need to spend money. So you agree and go out and buy a very expensive lorry.

For what it's worth Middlesbrough lost 2-0 to Rochdale so they aren't much better.

On a serious note though, it
's only pre season. I'd much rather a result like this now (a lot of our new foreign imports are still adjusting to the phyisicality of this league) and learn from it rather than a game where points are at stake.

The only downside for me is that Neves went off injured. Hopefully nothing too serious.

I know it's only pre-season. But this reminds me of the Solbakken season: a few out-of-the-box signings and then a group of individuals struggling to play a formation of which they had absolutely no experience.

I hope we emulate Reading last year. But I just don't see it. Not yet.

2-1 win against a strong looking stoke side. Sharp and Brooks again, nailed on we sell him for fuck all before the transfer window shuts.

Won 1-0 at Peterbrough. For all the money we have spent it was an academy player 16 year old Austin Samuels to score the only goal.

That's 12 consecutive wins now (including friendlies)

We won our last 7 league matches of last season then this Summers friendlies have been
9-0 away to Stocksbridge
1-0 away to Malaga
2-1 away to Chesterfield
2-1 away to Rotherham then
2-1 home to Stoke

I wouldn't be getting to confident about that but it can only be a good thing to keep the confidence flowing. We will soon see when the proper stuff starts a week on Saturday.

I'm certainly not over confident.
I remember when Dave Wier was our manager, we also had a 100% win ratio in friendlies (although he had chosen easier opposition) and we hardly won a match when the season started leading to his early sacking. Friendlies tend not to mean that much really.

8 goals in 6 games for Reid pre season
He really can't have done much more to put himself in a position where LJ has to consider starting him. I know the opposition hasn't been great, but it's certainly promising stuff so far.

Though with Engvall now fit we may not need to use Reid as a 9 1/2 as Johnson said.
Sounded like Kelly was the best of our defenders tonight too, if he can put pressure on Bryan for LB than that can only be a good thing.

Agree, hopefully Engvall can have a good game against Twente and put himself in contention to start upfront with Fammy.

The XI that started tonight did a fairly good job of making sure they're nowhere near the line up come the first game of the season. I guess pre-season is supposed to help the manager make tough decisions, tonight certainly did that.

Mitchell; Baird, Pearce, Davies (C), Olsson; Hanson, Bryson, Butterfield; Bennett, Nugent, Anya started the game.

Come Sunderland, I'd expect: Carson; Wisdom, Keogh (C), Davies, Forsyth; Huddlestone, BJohnson, Butterfield; Weimann, Russell & Martin.

Desperately need two wingers, though. Weimann has been okay, Bennett has showed glimpses, but none of them fill me with any kind of confidence.

So two L1 sides strongly tipped for relegation have beaten 3 Championship sides between them. Conclusions.........
1) The Championship is shite or
2) This is a massive false dawn for the Gills and Shrews

Lost 2-1 to Burnley, Sean Maguire came on and bagged a sexy goal, I didn't go but a few of my mates said he looks the business.

Classic Burnley scoring two set pieces, highlights how badly we miss Tom Clarke though.

Get a fucking centre back signed.

Pre-season friendly results so far:

Dartford (A) 1-1
Barnet (A) L0-1
Stevenage (A) 0-0

Keep up the good work, fellas!

Granada at home this Saturday. Should see something resembling the team we'll put out against Forest on the opening day.

Shrewsbury looked strong, as well. Quick, constantly pressing.
