Finished our pre-season campaign off by beating Halifax 3-0.

Not much of a contest really. We scored two early goals; the first a free kick curled in by Clough, the second after Mampala got on the end of a low Dickenson cross and then the game fizzled out a bit. Second half we tried just about every combination of players and positions imaginable as Chris Beech decided to see if Jon Mellish could still play as a centre-back and wondered what a 3-4-3 formation might look like. Right at the end we got a third as a defender turned another low cross, by Toure this time, into his own net.

Seems like we've learned a few things here and there this pre-season but only Chris Beech will know what it all means, most of the teams we've played have been non-league and they barely managed a shot on goal between all of them.
not much of a contest is accurate.

If that’s a mid table national league team then the gulf between L2 and NL is even bigger than I thought.

We played well first half in the 4-2-3-1 formation and should have really been more goals ahead. Switching to the back 3 didn’t really work, we looked disjointed and had gaping holes all through our team, we looked a bit better when we went 4-4-2 last 15 mins.

I worry that for our final preseason game that was a bit too easy. Think playing a L1 side would have been more beneficial. Colchester next week will be a different level to that Halifax team. Hope we’re ready.

I've been reading the Halifax forum. Apparently the conference kick off is delayed and that was only their second friendly, they had a heap of trialists playing too.

More so the home town of Right Said Fred!

Believe the baldy Nazi snowflakes have renamed themselves “Reich Said Fred”.

Has everyone found that they have a lack of higher division teams to play in friendlies this summer?

We’ve played West Ham, Spurs and Dundee with Gillingham to come tomorrow. Only first team friendly against lower-division oppo was at Maidenhead. Maybe we’ll throw a bone to non-league minnows Southend next pre-season.

We’ve played Swansea twice, Chippenham and Cinderford (both away), Cardiff away Saturday.

Just us then...

We often play an SPL team in pre-season so I don't know if different rules on travel in Scotland or just Scottish teams being reluctant to play friendlies against teams from a country that has just celebrated 'freedom day' has made that harder. I know Blackpool had been due to play Rangers before playing us but it was cancelled by Rangers after a few positive tests in the Blackpool squad.

Got Shrewsbury today. This should be our first real test against a fairly balanced opposition. Our previous games have all been against non league fodder or good championship sides, neither of which are good indicators of how strong the sides are.

We are playing Burnley's first team behind closed doors today. It will be interesting to see how we get on.

Yes, hopefully will indicate what our starting line up is likely to be too.

Shoddy; Crawley have not played any higher division sides unless you count the u23s of West Ham and Spurs as higher (I dont).

Spurs u23s today. I am going to a wake in Brighton so I will not be attending but if you're near a bar raise a glass to Mr Lee an all round good egg.

We’re drawing 1-1 at halftime against Barnet at Farnborough Towns ground.

Sutton’s 2nd choice keeper is in goal for Barnet
Surely this has to go into the tin pot thread...for Barnet ?

Our final pre season game ends in defeat to a full strength Burnley side. We conceded in the 90th min to lose 2-1. Sounded like a great effort from us. That’s our final pre season fixture with our results being:

Tranmere 1-0 Rangers
Stalybridge Celtic 1-3 Tranmere
Warrington Town 0-1 Tranmere
Tranmere 0-0 Sunderland
Tranmere 1-2 Burnley

A solid pre season there hopefully sets us up well for next week v Walsall.

Hartlepool not the only ones having a stinker against NLN sides, we are 2-0 down to Southport inside 5 minutes.

We're 0-2 up away at Accrington through an Andy Cook double. Could've been 4 or 5 by the sounds of it too.

Don’t know much about Accrington, but 2-0 up away from home against higher league opposition isn’t bad - especially given we’re without Songo’o and 1st choice LB.

Beating Chesterfield 1-0 at half time, James Wilson with a stunning strike, he’s been the difference

For 25 minutes nothing happened at all but then Wilson started dropping deep and showing some decent quality. Benning has struggled a bit for whatever reason.

Cass and Johnson done ok for us. Both seem to read the game well, helped having Leon in the middle of them I think.

I reckon Wilson will be a good signing for you. I wouldn't have minded him at the other VP!

1-0 up at half time at Yeovil, goal from Matt.
This was our line up, missing Adams, Cadden, Cargill. Edwards and Whitehouse.

2 nil down to Shrews at half time. Dreadful first fifteen minutes, got a bit better but worrying signs with one week to go.

We have looked very sharp and the Burnley commentators seemed impressed with us today.

We just need that elusive striker, although he won't be arriving before the Walsall game according to MM.

Covolan gets red carded for elbowing Nathan Tyson. Not the smartest passage of play there considering it’s a friendly :bl:

Won 1-0 in a game that descended into a bit of farce, Covolan was sent off, not sure exactly if warranted, their lad went in on Bennings shin and got away with a yellow and a bit of handbags ensued.

Good workout and dealt with losing the man ok I guess.

Finished 0-2 to us. Caps off a great pre season aside from the first half at Chesterfield. Good wins against higher league opposition like Accrington, Blackburn and Doncaster without conceding a goal.

Would need to see a replay of the sending off but it did seem for a friendly a bit too competitive at times. Overall a good workout and Wilson today really shined just in time for the opening game so will take that as a tick in the box.

Lost 2-1 in the end, concerning that we couldn't get at least a couple against a team two divisions below. Injury to Matt Platt picked up too. Not exactly promising going into the first game next weekend.
