We beat Wimbledon in our last pre-season friendly, Bunn and Loft with the goals.

Bedwetters are wetting the bed again. It's almost like they're unaware of the concept of pre-season friendlies.

Beat Gillingham 2-0 with goals from Omar Beckles and a young Norwich City striker whom we have on trial.

Gillingham were dreadful and barely laid a glove on us, they did field 4 trialists themselves and changed their whole team around the 60min mark.

We look efficient and organised. If we can sort out our striker issues, then I'm quietly confident that we can have a good season.

Preseason results mean nothing.

As I said earlier, I’ve seen us have great preseasons, beating strong championship teams comfortably, only to then start the season with defeat after defeat leaving us bottom. A few years ago I saw us put in a stinking display at barrow, got beat easily, it was awful. We then started the season undefeated till about December.

This preseason we’ve dispatched each non league team with absolute ease, including Halifax last night, but we got the run around from Blackpool last week.

I’m reading nothing into the results themselves, there were some good parts of the performances and some concerning parts as well.

Chesterfield fans comments on vale. There a poor side I think they will struggle. Another one says they will be joining us in the national league next season.

Worrying trend of players getting injured in pre season. Jay and Hartridge were missing today, Collins got injured during the game.
Just have to negotiate Truro in mid week

The main issue with the forwards is that none of them are fit. Smith and Drinan are a pair of do-a-job donkeys, but we’ll have a reasonable amount of creativity from Smyth, Kemp & Sotiriou. Defence should be as tight as a nun’s chuff so we won’t need to score that many to have a decent season.

Not sure what sort of side Salford had out but today but it was a training session for us even with half the squad back in Lincoln.

we did better than we ever normally do at Chesterfield!

Watched it, thought we did alright despite a few changes. Both sides played some good stuff but Wilson was the difference today, he looked every bit the striker we hope we’ve got with his movement and positioning (and great goal). If we can get his career on track it’s a great signing… if though being the key word.

It’s was unusually spicey for a friendly, considering the Ernie Moss connection and joint respects paid and the Manny love in before it descended into a bit of a mess.

Seeing it back Covolan is a bit unlucky, if he gets a ban from that we would be pretty annoyed. Tyson makes a right meal of it and then jumps up as soon as the red is out and is fine. Just a body check more than a deliberate elbow.

The tackle on Benning was pretty nasty near the end as well. Seemed very high.

Was a good test, just hope Rodney wasn’t out for anything serious.

Benning was in a right old war going back and forth with the fouls today. Don't know if it was the old Mansfield-Chesterfield rivalry coming to the fore or not there.

Overall I think there's enough encouragement to take in so far as you can from a friendly. Just looking forward to seeing the real stuff get under way now. In a sense just from a situational point of view it was not the worst thing in the world to go down to ten men as no doubt at some point we will have to deal with that this season so good to get some work in doing that I suppose.

Yeah we saw it out which was pleasing.

Although harsh I think Covolan is going to provide us some entertainment this season! Been crying out for one of those shithouse keepers for years! Although off the field comes across as a very nice guy.

Been very impressed with Johnson mind these past couple of friendlies now he’s got up to speed. Looks a good addition.

Why would you put such an effort to get out of that league to try your best to get back in it?

Surely anyone connected knows the difference between being in league 2 and the conference
Yeah too right, you’ve gotta be seriously fucking shite to finally escape the hell of the Conference and then end up back there.

We look very dodgy at the back. Any teams with any pace at all will put shedloads past us.

To be fair mate probably one our starting 11 will start next week and we had 6 trialists in all.
I also thought you looked organised however and I have put you in my pre-season Yankee so I hope you have a good season.

Crawley beat Spurs u23s 2-1 yesterday. Our goals from Nadesan and Rodari.

Didn't go myself so no comment from me about the game but it was good to hear Tunnicliffe got some game time after being injured and Tyler Frost was our man of the match.

Yeah I must admit when I saw no Dempsey or Oliver starting in particular, amongst a load of trialists I wasn't sure how seriously Evans was taking it. Then I saw you had one more friendly in the week too, which will probably be your main starting XI.

We have one more friendly against Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday at Maldon, but its likely to be the youngsters again.

First time Sir Mal has been back at the Tesco Car Park Stadium since his fine winning goal against Chesterfield a few years ago.

Mal Benning is a stag, so he definitely doesn’t like our non-league neighbours.

chesterfield fans are crazy i think. don't think many will predict us being in the conference next season, and if they managed to finish beneath a team with a midfield of tonge and pugh, i think we'll be ok with conlon/pett and walker

it was a fairly even game but we were playing a new formation and there was potentially 4-5 playing who are unlikely to start on saturday.

first view at what wilson can offer, dare i say he was a bit kane-esque when he was dropping deep, collecting the ball and just trying to get half a yard to shoot. think it helped him having the support of proctor to take the centre backs attention at times.

I've been reading alot of the Chesterfield fans comments after the game. One said other than the goal Wilson did nothing and had a poor game. Another said legge is abit of a cart horse. Another said covolan definitely elbowed there player and was a definite red card. I watched it back and don't even think it's a booking.

Im guessing this will be off a forum of theirs. Frankly I’d put as much stock in that as anyone should through some of the stuff that gets posted on OVF i.e. none whatsoever.

The only one of those that has any base in fact is Legge in the sense his second touch often ends up being a tackle but we kept them largely at arms length so people can read in to that what they will. Wilson was the best player on the pitch, how him and Rodney will work together as a partnership I’m still not sure but time will tell on that.

Their commentary team were drooling over Wilson’s performance which was pleasing.

He was superb yesterday.

Strange comments in fairness as friendlies mean bugger all.

You paid 10 quid watch Chesterfield vs vale friendly when your a Crawley fan.
It was meant to be a sarcastic comment regarding the importance of goals...and no, I didn't watch but yes I have watched highlights of some of our competitors pre season games.

Mixed pre-season results for FGR.
1627906371769.png

First three games FGR were better than good but played less well thereafter, except v Swansea.
If FGR can maintain 1st half standard against both our Championship rivals then the team will be serious promotion candidates. BUT if they don't improve from Yeovil match then mid-table will be ours.

Our youngsters beat Heybridge Swifts 2-1, who have Julian Dicks as their manager. Trialist Tyrese Omotoye scored again.
