Beat Vauxhall Motors(step 8) 2-1 last night with mostly our reserves playing. Got the 2nd of our 2 big warm up games at home to Lincoln on Saturday.

I seem to remember the club stated out as Airdrieonians then became Airdrie United when they bought out Clydebank and now have reverted back to Airdrieonians. Clydebank were also amalgamated with East Sirling in the 60's as well. Think Clydebank now play in one of the lesser leagues.

Yeah they must do, i checked them out on flash scores and only had results from the scottish cup but no leagues…

Both Airdrie and Clydebank both went bust in the late nineties, early 2000s IIRC. Both have now reformed. I think Airdrie are now Airdrie United and are now in the Scottish Championship. Clydebank I think are still scratching about in regional leagues. Clydebank of course 'famously' sponsored by Wet, Wet, Wet back in the 90s.

I guess the most famous Scottish club to go bust and start again was Rangers.

You’d struggle to find a bigger one

Airdrie went bust, reformed and bought out Clydebank, taking their place in the Scottish League.

Lost 3-1 to Charlton last night, didn't go so no real comment on it but most accounts suggest we played very well without having a cutting edge. Seeing as we all know we're a striker and a wide man short this isn't massively surprising, but we could do with them in sooner rather than later. Alfie May missed a penalty for Charlton - what a waste of money.

Apparently two of our trialists that played last night were GK Bradley Wade (ex Rochdale & Hereford) and LB Tariq Uwakwe (ex Crewe). Not sure on the other two, might see more of them or others tonight

Wow, wish we’d been able to beat Vauxhall Motors…

Sold out our game v Crystal Palace tonight.

Sod it pay a fiver and watch on a stream.

4-0 to Palace after 24 mins and at half time. To be fair, every time Eze can be bothered they either score or nearly score. I don't think we will be the only team he rips a new one this season. He is being helped by us playing 3 at the back with a right winger instead of a wing back. He and Édouard have the freedom to do what they want out there.

If we can keep it to below six while them two are on the field it's a result.

Eze and Edouade went off at half time and it finished 0-4. To be honest Palace just passed the ball around us for the second half. Got better when Tsaroulla and Lynch came on but not much.

We play that defence, style and speed in proper matches we may get the record for least points in a season!

It's pre season. I'm holding to that mantra.

I thought Vauxhall Motors folded, good to see them back.

Vauxhall Motors. Didn’t they knock QPR out of the FA Cup at one point? Seem to remember that being on TV.

Apparently they won their league ahead of Bury (remember them?) last season.

This is a pretty mad thing. 51k (mostly Chelsea fans let's be honest) which I think may be the biggest attendance we've ever played in front of (Got to be up there) for a pre season friendly. Usually it's a couple of hundred up at Cefn Druids.

records (or proper records) will be done on competitive fixtures, so this would be irrelevant.

Of course. It's just weird to see, like an alternate reality to what we are used to.

One nil down after 3 minutes...

We've lost at their place... in a league game

2-0 to Chelsea at HT. We aren't looking too bad at all, given the opposition and the heat. A couple of times we switched off and were punished.

Mullin looks fired up for this season. Apparently he wants to prove all the naysayers on the onefootballforum wrong who said he'd only scored so many because he was playing binmen and posties every week.

Finished 5-0. A bit flattering to them to be honest, plenty of positives to take from the game. We lacked a bit of composure in front of goal which was where their quality made the difference. Quite pleased with how we are looking so far though.

Maatsen (2) Gallagher, Nkunku and Chilwell with their goals.

We decided to abandon the back three formation and opted for a traditional back four, with the full backs pushing up aggressively. While losing 1-0 to Forest, t was a much-improved performance compared to last week's match against Stoke, which was disappointing. If Jodi Jones can maintain his fitness, he seems more than capable of causing significant damage to opposing teams throughout this season.

Uwakwe isn't a LB. He hates playing that position so the rumours from us go. Sees himself as more of a CM, so if Horseman wants to sign him you'd be better off playing him there.

Didn't stay up and watch but seen the highlights.

The pace of the players and speed of passing is always so utterly glaring when you play teams from a higher level, was clear as day against Coventry and Sheff United at times and it was even clearer to see in those highlights.

I'm assuming Wrexham aren't travelling half way around the world to get battered by Premier league teams for shits and giggles. Does anyone have any idea what the potential income/loss is from these vanity tours?

This is in no way a dig, I'm genuinely interested.

I think they've said its all about US exposure rather than income- part of our campaign to increase and retain our attention over there, same reason we took part in the TST in June. That said it was a 51k sell out last night and was shown live on ESPN so I'm sure financially we did OK.

In general the US tours do generate a lot of money, which is why the likes of Chelsea, United, Real Madrid etc all go there regularly.

"plenty of positives to take from the game" must be one of the most common remarks during pre season friendly season. It's used win, lose or draw.

Along with the classic "get some minutes into the players legs"

It's what you say to make yourself feel better after watching your team get pumped. See also:

"results don't matter"
"It's all about minutes"
"Trialists C looked good"

In a game broadcast across the globe and estimated to have boosted the local economy to the tune of an incredible $20 million

I'd imagine the club would cop for about 30% of that, so worth doing.

I never watched it last night nor have I seen the highlights yet. Will watch them on my lunch break if I can get any signal.

Does getting battered by Chelsea help the Wrexham brand?

Obviously the money helps the coffers but Americans only tend to support successful teams
