We’re away to Weston Super Mare tonight. Can we keep top spot? Probably.

Not if we win our two games tonight against Hungerford and Salisbury.

Rumour has it Wellens heard about this friendly table we've got going on and wants top spot so much he demanded we have two games on the same evening.

Sneaky.

This PSF business is so unfair. On one hand you've got the likes of us, Mansfield and Carlisle striving to test themselves against the very best, and on the other you've got loads of others seeking out tinpot clubs (some of which do not even have a wiki page ffs!) just so they could smash 'em.

I propose a new points system. Something like this -

PSF vs a

1. PL club = 12 pts/win, 6/draw, 3/loss (basically for having the balls to play a PL side)
2. CHP club = 9/3/1
3. L1/L2= 4/2
4. Connie/= 3/1
5. Connie N + S = 2/win
6. Northern/Southern/Isthmian Premier = 1/win
7. All other leagues = Points deduction for attempting to take the piss

What do you mean I'm taking this all too seriously? :dk:

What you get for an SPL side?

We're playing Chester this evening. James Phillips on BBC Radio Cumbria winning at journalism by stating at the start of the coverage, 'this is a quirk I didn't know about, Chester's ground is actually in Wales'.

We're playing Leicester, pretty strong team out from them. Playing their two new signings, Perez and Tielemans. Vardy is going to torment McArdle.

Starting line up tonight at Chesterfield

Gray
Elliot, Webster (c), NKP, Mellish
Jones, Scougall, Bridge
McKirdy, Reeves, Hope

It would appear that with the exception of Gray, we're now looking at a potential starting line-up for Crawley. Mellish impressed at right-back when he was moved there against Hibs, where Iredale made a couple of errors, so Iredale might still be pencilled in as things stand but Mellish gets an opportunity to show it should be him.

It's the last game of Reeves' trial, and the fact he's in this line-up is an indication that...

1) We still have no strikers
2) There's not just a contract up for grabs if Reeves can get it, but also a likely first team place if he is able to win a contract. He hasn't impressed thus far so has to really impress tonight.

It's also the last chance for Buckley-Ricketts and Duffus so we'll likely see them at some point, though it's more likely a place on the bench they'll be rewarded with if they get a contract.

After these we have a couple of home games against League One opposition and one away to SPL opposition. There'll still be triallists, including Brunt, and probably loanees as well. But we'll be mainly looking I think for the first teamers to gel as a team in those games.

UPDATE: Apparently Elliott looking like our best player again, but we're struggling to break Chester down with our one-pronged attack.

Hold on - you get live coverage of your friendlies? Ourselves and FGR are lucky to get coverage on actual competitive matches - especially if Gloucester Rugby have a big game like, well a friendly I suppose.

That's the advantage of having an entire BBC Radio region to ourselves (well ourselves and Barrow who are also getting some live coverage as they play Morecambe).

In truth it's not total live coverage, just bits and pieces during a general sports show. During competitive fixtures we have FM while Barrow get AM and internet.

Hallam Hope has been given a straight red card at Chester tonight.

Has anyone else had a red card in a pre season friendly this year or are we the first?

Not looking great for us. Reeves has been taken off, so that's probably him not getting a further look. You could argue that with the lineups he's been put into, he's not had a fair chance to prove himself but you can't really argue he's been worth a contract either. Our lack of firepower sounds like it's been telling

Reeves looked out of his depth in the 2 appearances I’ve seen. I expected him to at the very least look good against Penrith but even then there was nothing. Unless he’s been playing like Aguero in training he won’t get a contract.

It really is frightening that we’re just over 2 weeks from the start of the season and we don’t have a single striker and aren’t even being linked with any. With Hallam Hope probably sold or suspended we’re going to have absolutely no threat in that Crawley game. Holdsworth needs to hang his head in shame as our so called head of recruitment sporting director. Really desperate times

What's the crack with suspensions resulting from red cards in friendlies?

I’m led to believe that its all on the ref and whether or not he deems it serious enough to log. If he does (I’ve a feeling he might with it being violent conduct) it will be a 3 match ban applying to the next 3 competitive matches.

Full time 0-0 at Chester.

The nil is hardly surprising even against conference north opposition given that our one and only soon to be sold goal threat was sent off after half an hour.

Sounds like Danny Elliot, released by Port Vale was the best striker on the pitch today. This is a guy released by a team who just signed Richie Bennett.

We've including boxing in our pre season as well. Could look more like The Royal Rumble than The Football League. I like it.
