Losing to Bury today far from an ideal end to the pre-season given their troubles even so much as putting an eleven on the field. Good news is Oyeleke got some minutes under his belt after being out injured so will take that going into next weekend. We desperately need as close to a full season from him.

Well that’s not going to happen. Even if by some miracle we win our opening game, with our lack of attacking threat there’s no way we’ll score the goals required to put us top of the league after 1 game.

Yeah, winning a home game against Crawley would indeed be the very definition of the word 'miracle' if it were to happen. I'm not saying it's an impossible task, but it would surely go down in history as the biggest ever shock win in world football since WW2.

Carlisle United haven’t won their opening game for about 10 years.

Even if we signed Neymar I’d still expect an opening day draw at best.

Think we're assuming Elliot coming off was just a niggle. HG's rampant pessimism means this isn't the first time I think that a player has walked off the pitch clutching part of his anatomy and HG has assumed this means he'll be out for a good portion of the season.

Just a niggle? Lumsdon on the radio said it’s a groin injury. Obviously the lemgth of time out would depend on whether a strain or a tear. But even if it’s just a strain, he isn’t going to be marauding down the right flank of Brunton Park a week later.

We lost 1-0 at home to Bristol Rovers. An even game, but a defensive mistake towards the end cost us. Roll on Crewe.

Yes, poor trial list he got a terrible pass from Canavan and almost saved the day. Our back three are really not good. Pretty dull game, bit of a wake up call to some fans who are getting carried away.

A few nailed on for relegation after today

Hardly a surprise that lots of teams look shit in pre-season, given that most teams in league 2, other then possibly Bradford and Plymbury, are shit.

The least shit of the bunch will be accompanying those two into league 1 at the end of the season, joined slightly later by an even shitter team after a series of play-offs between 4 very shit teams. 15 exceptionally shit teams will neither make the play-offs or go down, and 2 unbelievably shit teams will be relegated.

Who else is looking forward to another exciting league 2 season....

Well I heard him at the end of the match saying the only positives were another match played and no injuries, so don't know what to think.

Think that if Bury were kicked out of the league just a few days before it was due to start they may just go ahead with a 23-team League One rather than the (admittedly desirable for some fans) upheaval of reprieving Plymouth and Yeovil, neither of whom are arguably in a fit state to suddenly be competing in the division above the one they've been preparing for. Like they would do if a team went bust mid-season. Plymouth or Yeovil fans would undoubtedly love it to suddenly be reprieved but either team would be placed at a major disadvantage for the coming season, having cut their cloth to fit the division they've dropped down into, not to mention the potential problems if say, Plymouth, were to inherit Bury's fixture list.

Drew 0-0 with Ipswich. Elliott Ward, Wes Hoolahan, George Maris, Samir Carruthers, and Jonathan Obika as well all trialing.

An Ipswich player headbutted Paul Lewis after a bad challenge which resulted in a scrap between the two sides. Ibehre and the Ipswich player both got reds.

Jabo loves to get involved. Just ask any Yeovil fan.

Didn't even know we had a game tomorrow. Expect it'll be fringe players and kids.

We also played Aberystwyth on Saturday and won 3-1, with our fringe/trialist players if that counts.

Looking into it, as ours are the same (trialists and kids) I think I'm going to declare pre-season over and your champions of League 2 Pre-Season:

We lose the pre season league! We managed to lose every game.

Crawley have the same problems as last season. Go to sleep in defence, lack intensity in midfield and we are too slow in attack ( in the sense of getting the ball to our attackers).

Pompey had a strong line up out so not too disappointed to lose the game, likewise Swansea and Brighton, but confidence is an important part of football so a decent win would have been helpful.

Bright spots in pre season were Bloomfield, Lubalya and Nathan Fergusson (signed from Dulwich Hamlet) who all look as though they could challenge for a first team spot.

Poleon not seen in any games, someone said he was present v Swansea but who knows what's going on.

On to our usual loss at Carlisle now. I hope we are not four down in thirty minutes like last season. It could be a relegation six pointer :gmc:

Have Crewe played anyone above about Conference North/South level? Every result seems to be against Aberystwyth Town or Shepshed United etc!

They beat Burnley (who sent a team to Port Vale the same day) and Wrexham on Saturday.

My records only go back to 16th July though so I don't know who they played in the first two weeks of pre-season.
