I'm sure it's because they were walking away with the league and had won it about 10 games before the season was up, just to finish below both Plymouth and Portsmouth

If Blackpool and Exeter represent the standard for League 2, then it was no great shakes getting promoted so easily.

Based on some posts by particular posters on here, clearly Pompey and Doncaster are going to stroll through L1 to the Championship.

with the squad we've got at present and the fact it's imploded in both the last 2 season's, one getting us relegated from a playoff position and the other throwing away a title where we needed just 3 points from 5 games I would regard not getting relegated as progress. As stated already it's far too early to say but I doubt we will be troubling the top six.

It's hard to predict with Rotherham because if we sell Danny Ward which is almost certain then we will have around 1.5 to 2 million to spend on new players but it's all about spending it wisely.

Not only have we been in the league so long, we're actually starting to nail down the same position every year.

Last 8 seasons: 16th 17th 16th 19th 15th 15th 17th 17th

Ridiculous, quite frankly.

17. Oldham

Keep Vaughan and we aren't going down, we've made some solid signings so far, especially Dawson.

We lost 12 in a row last season and even that wasnt enough to send us down.

Not saying we're gonna set the world alight either, we'll finish 14th or something is my early prediction.

Not a bad assessment.

7th-10th - Dale
17th - Oldham
Relegated - Blackburn, Blackpool, Charlton (all incompetently run) plus one of Walsall/Gills/Salop/Northampton

All I can say is the best three clubs we played last season were Sheff United,Bolton & Bradford City.
I expect Bradford City to be right up there this time.

No chance of Blackburn getting relegated, they only just went down from the Championship.

Based on last season I'd say Oxford and Charlton will be up there but Charlton are a bit of a circus so who knows.

Oldham make a couple of decent attacking signings they might even be mid-table never mind staying up.

Head or heart?
I think you will find it tougher than you expect, many bigger clubs than Blackburn have spent long periods in the 3rd tier.
My opinion is you will either go up this season or (more likely) miss out on the playoffs and find yourselves down here for quite some time.
Alot depends on your owners, if you get rid of them and get an ambitious backer you should be back in the Championship soon, but I fear the worst for you for the foreseeable future.
As a neutral I think Bradford, Portsmouth, Oxford, Bristol Rovers will be the teams to watch, if Plymouth get off to a good start they could carry momentum from last year too. Would like Donny to do well, but think midtable will be a decent finish for them (though above Rotherham)
Anyway good luck to all.

More heart than head but if (and it's a big if) we keep hold of our best players like Graham and Mulgrew we should walk this league. But if we don't go straight back up we're fucked.

I can see a lot of your best players being pinched by lower Championship clubs. I think you might keep hold of Danny Graham though.

Oh, and sorry for not being able to keep you up, we really were already on the beach that day.

No reason Blackburn can't go straight back up. We struggled to get our act together for large parts of last season and still made the play-offs. Bolton under Parkinson were unspectacular but solid and came 2nd.

It used to be a tough division to get out of at the first attempt but the economic gap has widened considerably in the past few years. That probably won't change until the bubble bursts, which it will do in our lifetime and spectacularly.

No chance of us going up. I'm unconvinced about the manager and our signings aren't very inspiring. I reckon we'll finish in the middle of the bottom half.

Bradford, Wigan and Oxford or Pompey for me.
