Nail on head.A quote from the Dark Knight always springs to mind with managers like Wenger, Tisdale etc. "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villian". Whilst that isn't literal in this sense, I think the general point is very true. If Tisdale had moved elsewhere after the 10-11 season, when he got Exeter to just outside the League One play offs, the height of their rise, he would have been revered by almost all the fan base. But he stayed too long, oversaw the decline and now he is resented. I've seen it at the Alex with Dario Gradi. Arsenal with Wenger. Probably the same for a lot of managers who've been at one club for a long time.
Football fans also have a recency bias, we're very much in a "what have you done for me lately" world where the achievement of the last 12-24 months are the only thing that matter to fans.
From the outside looking in, it seems crazy. But listen to a first hand account and it makes a bit more sense.
When we got to 8th in L1 i genuinely thought he could get us into the Championship but since then the wheels have fallen off somewhat...BUT I do think the last 18 months has been an impressive turnaround and I am content with him in charge while he keeps this level of form going.
He develops and trusts the youth players which is a massive plus to his management and you can see he loves the club. Trouble is, if we do go up but then struggle, the fans would turn on him straight away. Sounds crazy but it would happen.
