And I stated that I thought Barrow would give Northampton a good game regardless of the fact they have nothing to play for. Of course there is a chance Scunthorpe might pull off a shock on Saturday but I doubt it.

a group of posters of here would give scunthorpe a good game, they’ve no chance.

I’m annoyed as if we’d been more attacking we might have got the winner and be 3rd now, but mansfield did what mansfield do, they bottled it.

Negative tactics from nigel in a must win game

Hate to tell you this - but nige has form in big games like this. He did it for us as well.

We had a attacking line-up today, Clough always leaves it too late to change it around for me but I don’t see what he did wrong today.

Every single game this season we've had at least one poster say "we're the team you'll beat, it's always us that ends teams terrible runs"

Why is that not the case now

Can you take akins back? he wouldn’t know what a football was if it smacked him in the face

He should have taking akins off a half hour before the lad had a mare
He should have taken off hawkins earlier or did something, he had a mare
The substation of hewitt on was baffling and he struggled.

I mean look, having him as manager is a dream but today he fucked it.

The 2 goals we conceded were piss poor, elementary defending, to say we could have finished the day in an automatic spot that 2nd half showing was a shambles.

Not good enough

Could really do with Northampton NOT going up please. About to move to somewhere in between Cambridge, Northampton and Peterborough - having all three in the league above would be annoying. I think as it stands my local away game would be Stevenage FFS.

Tough one to take for Vale. I thought Newport looked good and certainly weren't on the beach today. At 1-1 Vale looked favourites to go on and win it tbh but a superbly taken goal was a real sucker punch for them.

Of course, delighted for ourselves but would have been happy with Vale getting the point and confirming their play off place. Both Mansfield & Vale today makes no difference for us if they lose or draw with the amount of points we both have - just not winning was the important set of results.

Onto Saturday then, where officially even Swindon have a chance of 3rd. Realistically though it's a 2 team race unless something drastically upsets both games.

Loads of pressure on both teams, what do Rovers do? Go for the 6-0 win to cover ourselves off, but risk Scunthorpe counter attacking us? Or just go for the win in the hope that Northampton slip up?

I said last week if you won at rochdale you’d go up and i maintain that.

Hopefully if we do make the play offs Bristol Rovers go up as they are in form and pose for me the most difficult challenge.

If we make them it’s most likely going to be in 7th I would think because Sutton or Swindon have failed.

Going to be tight to call. That said if Rovers are blood thirsty enough they could tighten the goal difference against Scunny.

I think Cobblers will probably beat Barrow though.

Wow just seen the results, thought they were evening matches for some reason. Shocked at least one of Mansfield / Vale didnt win it. Thank you Newport and Salford. Always liked Salford, well run, sustainable, good fanbase, low key owners, they should get a bit more publicity really.

Those 2 goals from Bristol Rovers at the weekend could be absolutely huge. Despite Scunny being pretty terrible I cant see them losing 6 or 7. Just got to beat Barrow.... not going to be easy but I think we will just about do it. We have found out shooting boots in recent weeks and I think we will scrape it. That being said if we do go behind its going to be so nerve racking for everyone, we dont win after going 1 down.

I would imagine we are the team most wouldnt mind playing against in the playoffs as in general we are seen as the poorer of the teams in the mix, would be a great job from Jon Brady in what his full season of management at this level.

There is a possibility- albeit slim that Northampton can win and still not get 3rd spot if rovers spank Scunthorpe - like Fulham did with Luton tonight, now opening up the play offs for millwall.
It’s possible if they get a early goal or two and Scunthorpe collapse.

I don’t think it will happen - but then again I didn’t think Man City would score 2 goals
In injury time to win the league, nor did I think Liverpool would come back from 3-0 down in the champions league, so I guess it is possible
However unlikely.
All you can do is win. Take care of your business. And keep checking flashscores…

We will be fielding our merry bunch of children against Bristol Rovers again, 7 teenagers probably starting with a couple still doing their GCSE's

They will absolutely collapse if they concede a couple early

If Rovers can score 4 away at Rochdale then they can definitely score 6/7 at home to Scunny.

Bristol rovers will get third. It’s written in the stars. They will smash scunny, and Northampton will draw at barrow I can see. ( no pushovers at home ).
Then Swindon play off winners and we've got a lovely West Country league next year.

We haven't scored more than 4 in a game this season and haven't won any game by more than 3 goals.

Scunthorpe have drawn 2 of their last 3 and only lost 2-1 at Bradford, who knocked 4 past Sutton on Saturday, so their form isn't awful.

Even when you get cup matches between sides 8 leagues apart you rarely get 6-0, 7-0 scorelines.

Realistically, the chances of us winning by at least 5 goals more than Northampton beat Barrow are probably 100/1. Not impossible but highly unlikely. We had a similar match to end the season back in 2016 and only scraped past Dagenham 2-1 with a 93rd minute winner.

Unfortunately, Barrow have the 3rd worse home record in L2 so Northampton are clear favourites but surprisingly Barrow did beat them 1-0 at Sixfields so you never know. Come on you Bluebirds!

Good point. Forgot that one. Still, nothing to suggest we're going to bang in 6 or 7. I know Fulham scored 7 yesterday but it seldom happens in football.

No team has ever had a better chance of banging in 6 or 7. We are going to be fielding a team of teenagers with 3 senior pros most likely playing. If you get 2 early they will fold and you will get a hatful.

You’re playing the worst team in the FL in the past 25 years and we’re not even starting our first team anymore.

That may be true but you've drawn 2 of your last 3.

The one you did lose was only 2-1 at Bradford, which was a decent result. They knocked 4 past Sutton on Saturday.

It's not like you're getting thrashed every week. You haven't conceded more than 4 this season.

As I said, we had a similar match to end the season against Dagenham back in 2016. They were already relegated and had conceded exactly the same amount of goals as you after 45 games (81). We eventually managed to scrape a 2-1 win, scoring in the 93rd minute.

How many games in League 2 this season have been won by 6+ goals? I can't remember any, it seldom happens.. However, it won't stop me getting excited if we're 3 up at halftime.

We’ve lost 6-1 and 5-1 this season, we were 5-0 down to Harrogate at half time.

Those losses were also with our first team playing. Draws against Hartlepool and Stevenage, two teams with nothing to play for at all aren’t slightly comparable to how motivated Rovers are gonna be.
