yeah so if you got 80 in those seasons it wouldn't have been enough to get in the play-offs :dis:
But that's not what I asked? Wot has been the actual highest points so far not to get in the play offs? I.e. what is the highest points tally for a 6th placed team? I would now guess at 80 because of the answer uve already given.

Actually it was 79 but thats not the point is it, because even if you got 80 (or 81 with an inferior gd) in those seasons you still wouldn't have made the play-offs.

Would have got there quicker if you asked what the highest points total was for 6th place seen as that is what you actually wanted to know :2thumb:
I would have thought that asking what is the highest points to not make play offs is the same thing as highest total for 6th place......?

I'm confused......... ;) :dk: :bang:

Well that was fun! On the plus side I don't have much hair to lose.

I said earlier in the week that I didn't see Kiddy as the 3 points on a plate that it was being presented by some, and so it proved. They have better players than their recent run suggests, and factor in a nervy start for us, and they are right in the contest.

Dover did us a massive favour but I suspect that we'll see more drama next week. It looks like being a sell-out, which means more tension in the ground. Get a couple ahead and I don't think Gateshead will come back, level or 1 goal in it and it will be hard going.

Put it this way, in 2010 York finished 5th on 78 points and Kettering finished 6th on 66 points. How many points did York need to finish 5th? 78 or 66 with a better GD than Kettering?

The question was "what's the highest points not to get in the play-offs" As I said the highest 5th placed finish was 81 so therefore 80 points is the highest points total not to make the play-offs (or to be pedantic 81 with an inferior GD)

After calming down from yesterday's trials and tribulations, I'm feeling a little better.

I still expect Barnet to win the league, but apart from yesterday's missed oppurtunity, we are where we were.

The outcomes i expected from yesterday would have both involved a Barnet win yesterday, I really expected them to turn over Kiddy. I had a feeling we'd draw versus Dover, it's just the way it happened that is painful but either way, we both go into the last game with a chance to win. I do expect us to win the last game of the season, I also expect Barnet to win, but as we saw yesterday slip ups happen, and I know it's a cliche but it is the last game of the season and pressure does funny things. If we don't win the league, we're still in the playoffs, so who knows? We've got a chance either way, and that's more than I thought we'd have. Big missed oppurtunity, so let's make sure we capitalise on it if Barnet slip up again.

I rate Gateshead as a team on their day, so lets see if they turn up. Of course, that's banking on us getting a win, which isnt a forgone conclusion.

What's the highest points not to get in the play offs? A win gives us 80 which you would have thought would be plenty!
Bet you wish you had never asked this question now eh....!? :P1:

Don't know if Eastleigh getting promoted would be a good or bad thing for us.

If Grimsby go out in the playoffs again this year I will have huge sympathy for their fans.

I think Barnet have to win the title next week, or they're going to be clipped by probably Eastleigh/FGR in the play-offs.

Rovers on the other hand I would see as massive favourites going into them if they were to miss the title. Envisage Grimsby making the Final in a fairly unremarkable fashion before another defeat.

I think the fact that the off field issues have been sorted have eased the minds of the players and they could relax and play a more natural game. Just happened to be that it came after playing Bristol Rovers and before playing you.

If we're playing the pedantic game and the question was "what's the highest points not to get in the play-offs", then surely the correct answer is whoever won the league with the highest points total?
Theres always gotta be one smart arse eh........!! ;) :ds::bg1:

Barnet and Eastleigh to come up please. Both new grounds for me, Wouldn't mind Grimsby as it's not a long trip for us. Pompey v Eastleigh would be fun next season I imagine. Would they be allowed up with the ground?

Someone posted on the Fishy that the Dover equaliser had cost us promotion...

I must admit I was cheering when they went one up at Dover with Barnet losing. I guess it's the feeling we have the mental edge over them if we make it to Wembley. 3rd place was vital for us with our dodgy home form, another poor result in a home 1st leg would have been a massive downer. As it is I think we need a lead from the away leg, Maybe then we can treat the home game like an away game...

Closest we'll get to a South Coast Derby anytime soon. We'd get mauled by Brighton atm.

It was also a big opportunity missed for us, so I'm hoping we will be feeling more relief than pressure.

A win would have sealed the title and the Gateshead game can now be looked at as something of a second life.

The timing of the Dover equaliser was an added bonus and I hope now we guard against complacency because Gateshead have been a decent side for the past couple of seasons.

They were excellent when they turned us over at The Hive last year so we need to be on our game from the off.

It's going to be a nervy day and I just can't see this being straightforward.

Looking at the injuries that's Gateshead have and the form they've shown lately, I think it'll be easier than you think, I'd be highly surprised if you blow it.

If you're not going to blow it, can you just score five first half goals. After last year I don't want this last day stress, if you win 2-1 after conceding early and getting a 95th minute winner I'll be very disappointed in you.

Well done Barnet. In the bag.

Gateshead have 10-12 injuries and nothing to play for. Barnet will just have to turn up. Surely they can't fuck it up now.

Ha ha! Love the mind games being employed, but you are overlooking one little aspect. We are Barnet fans, so we know that things are never that straight forward.

I would rather be playing Alfreton than Gateshead, but if I was offered the chance at the start of the season to have this game to win it I would have taken it.

There are no such thing as mind games between fans!

You say that about presuming the worst, but we know all too well what can happen last day of the season, just look at us last year.

To be fair, I'd have took playoffs at the start so this is a bonus, I genuinely thought we'd be around midtable, it'll still sting a little though I won't lie.

Sorry Bristol Rovers fans but you'll have to do it via the play-offs, our players have been turning out in their flip flops for the last month or so now. They start games ok, but as soon as the opposition show a bit of fight they unfold the deck chairs and start making sand castles with their buckets and spades.

Same here. I had no expectation of getting into the play-offs this season.

We all know Gateshead on their day can pass and frustrate a team to death with the chance of nicking a goal. If we fail to unsettle them it could be a difficult game, knowing our luck Gjokaj will play a blinder against his former team and Oster will make a return for this game as well..

Stop playing mind games, man!

Gateshead are one of the best teams we've played this season, but it would be unfair to say get a result on the last game of the season against league leaders, on there own patch, with mass injuries and nothing to play for.

Granted, (cliche alert) anything can happen on the last day, all I'm saying is I'd be very, very surprised to see you drop points.
