you're both going to lose and there will be 5 points between top and 4th with a game in hand come Saturday night!

*may or may not happen

Did happen, great day for us and Macc to an extent. Just 8 points separate the top 5 now, a few weeks ago 8 points separated the top 2!. Bristol have also played a game more, the title race is now wide open.

Halifax v Bristol Rovers and Eastleight v Barnet next week, would expect at least one of them to drop points there while we go to Chester, another tough game but we're the best away team in the league for a reason. Not forgetting Macc have their game in hand at Telford on Tuesday. Things could get very very close soon.

How the rest of Barnets season will pan out:

Halifax and Eastleigh away: both convincing losses. Languishing around 4th with teams snapping at our heels. No confidence, fans pissed off, players abject and players like Luisma planning their next team to get away from the rot.

Alfreton, Dartford, Nuneaton and Welling: all wins, maybe a draw. Form picks up, false confidence appears in our fans again. The 'pessimistic but utterly correct' Urban sees through this charade.

Halifax, Kidderminster, Gateshead - losses, maybe a draw/win against Kiddy or Gateshead. Crap football, limp-wristed 'fight' for the final playoff place. We miss out (or extend our misery by scrapping into the final spot, only to go out convincingly) and lose 3/4's of our team over the summer.

Put your bets on it people. Martin Allen is oh so predictable.

Shit day for us. We were truly truly awful again today. We'll not make the playoffs on this form.

I still stand by my prediction that we end up with 86/87 points.

Whether that is enough for top remains to be seen. We score enough goals to eek out wins to avoid slipping out of the top five imo.

If we do win the title, it would be a damning indictment on the standard this season. We are a poor side.

The FWP Predicted Final League Table makes interesting reading for Grimsby fans. Yes I know its not accurate but its there.

http://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/confprem/league?sort=predicted

So we lose 1 and win 8 of our final 9 games, by no means impossible on paper with the 9 games we have left but I think even the most optimistic Town fan wouldn't believe it if that happened.
Also a bit harsh on Bristol losing another 4 games in their last 8 considering they have only lost 5 all season seem very unlikely, though even if they only lost another 2 (much more believable) and the other predictions there happened they would still be third!
I think those predictions are being harsh on Eastleigh as well and reckon they will pip FGR to 5th who will be left to rue that points deduction.

Anyway onto actual promotion and I reckon its still Bristols to lose, I know others have a game in hand but Barnet don't look like using that to their advantage right now, 5 points is alot for us or Macc to catch up at this stage. The turning point will probably be the Bristol v Macc game at the end of the month, if Bristol win that and are still top I think that will be it, if they lose then any of the other 3 could win it depending on other results between now and then. Hopefully we are still only a couple of points behind by then (having played our game in hand).

As for the other top 5 spot as I said I reckon its Eastleighs to lose and FGR will rue the points lost, though if FGR continue as they are at the minute the could easily finish in the top 3 and one of the other current top 4 dropping out completely (my money would be on Macc rather than either of the other 3, unless Barnet continue to lose games)

We were shocking today. It was painful at times. We're a decent passing side and we just went route one as soon as FGR scored.

There's no way we'll win the league....not a chance. We rely on referee decisions going for us...they'll soon run out.

If we do win it....It'll say more about how about how poor this division is than anything becuase we're distinctively average.

Can we stop being referenced with all this promotion malarky please. We'll be playing Bromley next season. Let's leave this discussion involving teams that play proper football who are managed by people who understand football.

Martin Allen is a superb manager at this level. Careful what you wish for.

:fl: I guess he must seem like Mourinho compared to Hill. But to burst your bubble, he's really, really not. When you watch his shit week in week out, you understand just how one dimensional and aimless it is.

I did say after the game against your lot that all you did was hoof it at Akinde. Every Barnet fan on here said I was wrong. :dk:

Well it's not 'all' we do. We pass it around on the floor but that's normally for any period between 5-45 minutes a game, and normally the period we dominate and score in. The rest is aimless punts and hoofs to Akinde. It's unbelievably frustrating to watch when you see players like Luisma come off the pitch, Vilhete not even make the bench, and players like Clifford and Stephens reduced to shadows of their normal selves.

If this is the future of an Allen Barnet team then I don't want him at this club any longer. Although granted I'm nowhere near his biggest fan after his previous with us anyway.

Even when we were however many points in front this season there was not a single part of me thinking we'd win the league.

Any barnet fans know why Villa was taken off at half time....thought he was playing alright and he does have some genuine ability on the ball. Can't for the life of me understand why he brought on Gambin, what does Gambin actually do? He's been here for years and has done nothing....I've never seen a player so one footed in my entire life.

Well you must be glad you didn't express those thoughts earlier in the season, otherwise you'd have been labelled as a pessimist, fake fan and arrogant, among other things.

I don't like Stephens. He's a big lad and you need that at the back in this division but you also need some ability on the ball and he has none...has he played more than 10 successful ground passes this season?

He's been instructed to hoof it, 100% mate. Last season he was one of our most classy players. I remember so many times when he demanded the ball under pressure, played it about and calmed things down. It was a rare sight in matches during the Davids era. Over the summer he's changed (rather, Allen changed him) into some big lump who treats the ball like some kind of rubbish in the street. He can pass when he's told to, guaranteed.

I know I'm posting a lot of moans tonight, so I apologise to the oppo fans who have no interest. But look at it this way to understand my frustration

We were 11 points clear at one point this season (not too long ago either). 11 points. We could now be finishing 6th or below, if things don't improve (and I don't see where they will right now). That's really, really bad. If we don't make the playoffs Allen has to go, based just on that fact alone.

We've established we're not winning the league and we have no hope of beating Grimsby/FGR/Macclesfield over two legs...

...Martin Allen has to shoulder a lot of the blame.

I'm not sure why Luisma was taken off. Maybe MA thought that with us playing against the wind in the second half, we could play balls in behind the FGR defence for Gambin to run onto. It certainly didn't work.

Can't blame you on 1st Jan you were 9 points ahead of Rovers (15 ahead of Grimsby) having played the same amount of games, then 5 loses in 8 games has seen you were you are now.

We have tended to beat the part time teams and have broadly a 50/50 record against the full time sides.

After Eastleigh next week, where I think we will struggle, we travel to part time Halifax and then have a run of kind looking fixtures.

We lost our lead because we had a run of tough fixtures and because some of the chasing pack have strung some wins together.

Whilst disappointing, it's not over yet and until next Saturday at least, it's still in our own hands.

Just been looking at the FootballWebPages prediction table and it's got Grimsby winning league with 91 pts from Barnet with 90 pts. Just thought I'd mention it. Complete bollocks of course.

Shit day for us. We were truly truly awful again today. We'll not make the playoffs on this form.

Looks to me you're doing a carbon copy of what Alfreton did last season.

Wouldn't mind being proved wrong though!

We've just signed Chris Lines on loan. Started his career here and left 3/4 years ago to join Wednesday.

Brilliant signing, exactly the attacking CM that we need. Was getting 10-15 goals a season for us in L1 and L2. If I remember rightly, didn't he have a more powerful shot than Lambert on that local Bbc league program?
