We're currently playing Real Mallorca in a behind closed doors game (although it's being streamed on YouTube). We're playing some decent stuff although I think we're at least a week ahead in our pre-season, this is their first friendly.

Lost 3-1 as they made changes and got stronger whilst we took off a bunch of seniors, rolled out trailists and the U21s. Scored a nice goal mind.

Omar Bogle picked up a worrying looking back injury and hobbled off. Would leave us with 1 fit striker at this stage.

We’ve only got 2 games left weirdly and have next weekend free as well. Slightly worried we sound like we are a bit off the pace, though I’ve not been to any games yet so can’t really comment too much

Apparently Joe Bunney played the second half for us today. Bit of an odd one, he's surely not someone we're actually likely to want to sign.

Perspective required though. PL Nottm Forest brought their first team last weekend so we were never gonna get near them realistically. Sheff Utd were a PL side last year, and for much of yesterday (especially 2nd half) we more than matched them, so there’s definitely positives to take from that.

I wonder whether we’ll have a BCD friendly arranged somewhere between the Derby and Scunthorpe game?
It really wouldn’t make sense us having a free weekend at that stage of pre season I wouldn’t have thought

Trialists are mostly odd choices. Think we've signed 1-2 genuine trialists in the last 10 or so years. It was like the 2 CBs that played 1 game each against Newcastle and Stafford, no way were they ever signing. Same with the keeper Brad Foster. It was clear they were looking to sign Marschall, so what was the point of bringing in Foster?

Bunney made a shocking error for Mallorca's 3rd goal, so even if there was a 1% chance they might sign him, I'd imagine that will be the end of that.

It's not easy getting rid of deadwood is it. We have some on very good contracts that have been told they are not in the managers plan, and unless we can move them on, it will hamper any future recruitment this summer, apart from a loan signing I understand we are close to clinching.

We made rash decisions to dish out expensive 3 year contracts a couple of years ago to the likes of Vadaine Oliver who have been flops , but still hanging about.

Yeah, it's very lucky Moores been given license to make signings first without needing to ship some out. Without that I won't lie I'd be dreading this season. Probably be the same for yourselves that if those players are to move on it'll be end of the window when other teams have missed their top targets barring coming to an agreement with those players but that won't be cheap.

The goal we conceded yesterday. Never change Vale

Can someone tell me what the keeper is doing before the slip? Why does he suddenly dart left for no reason.

We could be playing an Everton or Burnley side - I know it was muted at the time.

I’m not concerned, just going off the negativity of everyone, which wasn’t around last pre season after a similar set of fixtures

I’m going on Wednesday so will feel in a better place to comment after then.
My dad went yesterday and said he liked the new RB and CB that Madden showed good touches. Still think we are a bit light in the spine of the team though - especially alongside Naylor

I think most of them make sense - we've had a couple of young kids from non-league they wanted to have a look at. Triallists are always at a disadvantage though because a) there's a reason nobody has already signed them and b) if they were high on our list of targets we'd probably just sign them, so they have to do very well to earn a contract.

I think Bunney was probably just playing to fill a gap because the under 21s/18s played last night. Not sure if Foster was more like that scenario or if he was here in case the Marschall deal fell through.

I do agree. Oldaker, Jones, Akinola all feel like squad players. Jones is probably the pick but can he realistically play more than 25 games next season? You'd prefer someone of a similar stature to Naylor, first name on the sheet, don't even need to worry about it. Matlock is the only friendly I've been to, but I've been told we don't look quite at it, like there's some gelling to do. Still, we've had blinding pre seasons and struggled and shit pre seasons and done well. I'm trying not to read too much into it. New right back suddenly looks a bit more urgent

Yeah Dunkley has been the standout for me through pre season, been very impressed with him. Madden for me, and this is just my personal opinion, hasn’t been great in the games I’ve seen. I’m not sure on him in the number 10 and think he’s far more suited to playing up top, but obviously there’s only one place in the team for that so it’s him or Grigg. I just think options such as Dobra, Banks, Jacobs etc are better options in the 10. Granted, I’ve only seen him 2/3 times, just don’t think he’s better than what we’ve already got in there.

I really like Oldaker and think he’s got the ability to be more than good enough to partner Naylor in league 2. Such a good footballer, great passing range and an ability to control the tempo of a game. The one thing with him is sometimes he lapses in concentration and gives the ball away in a silly position, and obviously going up a league, more likely to be punished if he does that. He definitely improved last season, so hoping he can take that extra step again, but we’ll see. Keen to see more of Akinola in pre season too, he’s barely featured, but last time he was here always looked like one with huge potential.

I think he realised he was going into a heavy collison and decided to go into self preservation mode as it was only a pre-season game. If that was a league game, I think he risks it.

Either that or he tried to bluff the guy in a game of chicken and lost.

That's Notts County levels of ineptitude.

It somehow surpasses even our best (or is that worst?) comedic defensive efforts last season.

Looks like whoever was controlling him's joystick went faulty and got stuck left. Wouldn't happen in a regular game so god bless PSFs

Got to disagree there Viking. We conceded worse goals than that last season. Baldwin v Shrewsbury was extra special. Slocome at Swindon also springs to mind like a nightmare.

Multiple shockers in both games, I was sat in disbelief at the County Ground at what I was seeing but I can explain those especially at Swindon , the sudden movement from the goalkeeper is so strange. As suggested elsewhere maybe he just didn't want to get involved in a challenge , bottled it, and exited stage left. It just looks so weird.

Baldwin and Slocombe could produce impressive Top 5s just on their own last season.

It’s a bad one but at least in a friendly. Fans getting stressed about the result but then out comes Wayne Jacobs for an interview laughing his head off through it, seems a character.

We’d been “beasted” before the game so anyone taking them seriously needs to chill. Recall us battering Man United and Sheff Wednesday in pre season before relegation!

Our keeper situation will be interesting as Ripper has some real competition with Amos.

They played Blackburn in two 60 min games on 13th July, but nothing since. I had them to play Fylde on Saturday just gone, but that is actually this Saturday. Their friendly with Vauxhall Motors on 3rd August has now been cancelled due to VM being in the FA Cup.

They have Blackpool on 30th July and Wigan on Friday 2nd August. Apparently they've had several behind closed door friendlies, but I can't see anything other than the Blackburn games.

Sorry Si but our defeat at York doesn’t count on your table because we lost.
Only games we win should count that’s a rule I’ve just added cheers.

Our friendly with Hungerford tonight has been downgraded to effectively an u23 game with a couple of first year pros thrown in.

Stoke at home tonight for us, should be a good test. Probably going to feel like an away game as I'm expecting there to be more Stoke fans there than home fans.
