Didn't say they did just means you're a bigger club.

It can do, but not in a lot of cases.

It depends on many factors - cheap match day ticket prices, cheap season tickets, form, the league you are playing in, possible owner protests etc.

It is far too simplistic to say bigger attendances mean the bigger club. Whilst Tranmere are clearly bigger than Braintree for example, are Eastleigh (5th highest average attendance) bigger than teams with currently lower average attendances such as Aldershot, Chester and Torquay? No, they just have incredibly cheap season and match day tickets and are at the peak of their history.

Well put, these money clubs Have their day and then sink without a trace because the real fan base doesn't exist to create a Phoenix.

FGR probably have a hardcore of around 700 fans and that's being generous. What was the average before money came in? 500?

Anyway you make up your attendance numbers as proved when I visited barely 1500 in the ground and it was announced as 2,200 it was laughable.

How many went to Barrow big willy?

Haha not even close. We were averaging around 1100 by the 10-11 season (during which Ecotricity took over), 1200 06-07 & 07-08, our first 2 seasons at TNL.

And if you believe all the people who say they started watching in the 1980s we were averaging over 5,000 then!

Who did you play that season to bump that average up? How many went to Wembley last season? Barrow on Sat?

Yeah, so Newcastle are a bigger club than Chelsea? That's simply not true anymore.

It's no coincidence that every time Barrow visit FGR there are huge doubts over the announced attendance. Probably because FGR have it in their head that bigger attendances = bigger club. It's nonsense.

The "size" of a club has a LOT to do with history, latent fanbase, and reputation outside of their area. If you're going to base it on attendances, your hardcore attendance is probably better judged by the size of attendances were you to get relegated a division. Ours were about 700 on average (I think), and I'd guess FGR's would be about 300?

There was about 35 at Barrow the other day.
I know there are tonnes of variables, but if we're comparing our own sides to FGR, we took 86 there this season, and more than 10,000 to Wembley on our previous two visits, they had about 3,000.

Big club my bollocks.

I don't think we're a big club either (and don't much care) but the idea that we're making up home attendances is utter bollocks having been to most of them and seen the variations match the reported crowd.

Think it's only these kids on half-term that are actually arsed about who's bigger than who. I wouldn't regard us as a big club for non-league - we can drop as low as 700 or so when things aren't going our way, but the idea that attendances = status is nonsense.

Did get me wondering what our attendances would hold at if we did drop a league. Minimum home support now is getting on for 1300 for a Saturday game but wouldn't claim they are core and no guarantee they'd stay around if things started going astray. I'd hope it would be somewhere nearer your seven hundred than three for a few seasons at least though, as Chris has said it held up pretty well through some fairly ropey years in this division.

No one likes us?! How very dare you. Voted 'Best fans' in the League Two section on many occasion I'll have you know. A very prestigious award.

Genuinely though, are we really disliked? I always think we're quite a harmless bunch.

Mind you, if it's the distance from Carlisle to Dagenham you dislike, then yes, yes I agree.

I've only seen us twice at Dagenham and we lost 6-2 and 6-0 in the space of 6 months. Dismal area as well.

35 sums them up really they might have a few more home fans because your doing well but the hardcore support remains the same. Eastleigh are perfect example. We're averaging 1200 home this season and took 125 to Tranmere not big numbers but 10% of our home support. What percentage is 35 of 1700?

We're a bigger tinpot than FGR summing it up.

No one really local in the league back then, the likes of Torquay, Exeter, Luton and Wimbledon used to bring quite a few. 06-07 & 07-08 was the new stadium factor, plus the fact we were challenging for the play-offs 07-08, remember getting 1300 against the likes of yourselves and Woking who didn't bring that many. Core was probably 7-800 back then, now probably closer to 1000.

It was actually 4-5000 at Wembley, which wasn't great I know. Funny cos we had around double that when we got to the Trophy final, back then we had a lot more neutrals coming along whereas now less neutrals in Glos actually like us (not sure why ;))

Don't really care if Dagenham are a bigger club or not tbh, I'm just pleased that we're growing our support and getting a lot of kids in, whilst cutting the playing budget.

FGR growing their support? Is that's what happening in those big sheds? You have these big sheds but nobody's allowed in. And in these sheds you have 20ft high chickens, and these chickens are scared because the don't know why they're so big, and they're going, "Oh why am I so massive?" and they're looking down at all the little chickens and they think they're in an aeroplane because all the other chickens are so small.

Eastleigh are a special case though, as most of their fans get in for free every week. I reckon we'd probably be at capacity every week if we did that, as one of the main things keeping our attendances down seems to be that people round here can't afford it every week.

Wonder what the veggie alternative to a spinal column on a bap is? Well it would have to be a baguette but still.

On The Chase a few years ago some woman was asked in the cash builder part, "which Scottish club won 9 league titles in a row in the 60's and 70's?" and she answered Tranmere Rovers! Our claim to fame!
We keep those titles quiet, we're modest like that!

Pat Nevin was on the bench for us for our first 3 seasons as a reformed club along with Perry Groves.
