I don't think Sterling leaving will have a serious negative impact in terms of Liverpool's team as it stands, it's more the symbolism and potential trigger effect, how long before Coutinho ups and leaves? Let's face it though, Liverpool look out of the running at the moment, I think a lot of the bile aimed at Sterling is misplaced, as well as the praise.
For a long time Liverpool could attract players on their name alone, I think that time has gone now as the Champions League bubble grows.
If we had a top class manager with some pedigree, attracting players wouldn't be hard at all.

Am I the only one thinking he just doesn't want to live in Liverpool anymore?

If he wants to move back to London, and an opportunity looks like it might present itself, then why not take it? People move careers or jobs all the time due to personal reasons; I'm not sure why footballers should be any different.

People keep saying he's handled the situation poorly, but how much of the media speculation has actually come from him? This isn't a rhetorical question, I'm genuinely asking because I don't know.
Good point and one that doesn't get its credit often enough. People just assume that since footballers make loads of cash, they're happy to live anywhere. Let's face it, if you were given the choice between Liverpool, Manchester and London, Liverpool would come last in most people's minds I would think.
Reminds me of the time Kevin Nolan made the switch from Newcastle to West Ham. Most media outlets had us believe that the move was financially-driven (which it probably was) but when you have the opportunity to live and work in London (especially on good money) you think twice about it.

If we had a top class manager with some pedigree, attracting players wouldn't be hard at all.
Slightly off-topic but Rodgers is a well-suited manager for Liverpool I would say. He almost won you the league and this season had to be transitional what with the 3rd best player on the planet leaving, Sturridge being injured more or less all season and poorer performances all round. Rodgers did achieve a 13-game unbeaten run between the United games and Liverpool aren't that far off from 4th. A disappointing season but Rodgers can't be blamed for Liverpool being unattractive.

Spot on that.

Sterling is a disgrace. He owes everything to Rodgers. Put him in the first team aged 16, rests him to prevent burnout, shields him from criticism and played him centrally and built a team round him and this is how he gets repaid. Hope the little c*** goes to Man City for 45 million and does fuck all.

What gets me is that for all the other clubs that are interested in buying him, he's already said that its not about the money but winning trophies. That being the case, why are there rumoured wage offers of £200k from City ? While it pains me to say it, City will have better chances of winning trophies than Liverpool, and therefore shouldnt the City hierachy be saying, its not about the money, so how about you accept £80k a week for a better chance of winning trophies ?? As we all know, this wont happen, because ultimately, it is about the money isnt it ???????

Is it any wonder he's looking to move after the praise he received last season. The fact he's become so highly rated has allowed his agent to take full advantage. He's probably telling Sterling he'll be the best in the world and that Liverpool will win nothing soon (possibly true). The whole situation has been handled horribly by everyone. I do think Sterling would be a good fit at City though. Navas is useless and Milner is off, so he'd fit in on the right nicely.

I'd say Arsenal would be a better option for Raheem than Citeh. They're a more settled Club and he'd be given more game time than he would up at the Etihad.

The only team where that would be almost guaranteed is Chelsea, and I don't think he'd get in their team to be honest.

Liverpool finishing second last year overshadowed City's title win. What's the fun in winning trophies if nobody cares or remembers?

I don't think it did. Perhaps in the eyes of Man Utd fans as they have a focus on both clubs, but I don't think to anybody else.

On Sterling to Arsenal as somebody mentioned, I don't think that's the best move for him from a football perspective, though on a personal level for him he gets to move to London. But of all the clubs in the league Arsenal is the one with more players capable of playing his position than any other really. Where people are questioning him playing at City, the issue would be greater at Arsenal. Where City have Silva as a sure starter and the rest of the positions are up for grabs, Arsenal are different. Yes there will be places up for grabs and the only attacking player assured of a place (Giroud aside as he's pretty much the only proven striker) is really Sanchez. Everybody else vies for those starting berths and where City have Nasri and Navas (with the impending departures of Milner, Lampard and likely Yaya) as competition, Arsenal have Ozil, Ramsey, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Welbeck as your jack of all trades if trades are limited to being a winger/striker, Wilshere and to a lesser extent Rosicky and Gnabry as well. Most of Arsenals midfield options are more flexible than a lot of clubs meaning players can fill a variety of roles, with Cazorla and Ramsey examples of players who can sit deep with Coquelin or play a more advanced role further up the pitch and add goals and assists.
Of course if he could nail down a starting position then it could be great for all concerned (well, not Liverpool) and Arsenals squad becomes that much stronger, but if him not playing x amount of games in his preferred position is to be an issue with any potential suitors then it's going to be more glaring at the Emirates than anywhere else.

Of course Rodgers isn't the sole reason. And I am not "blaming" him. But you are telling me a top class manager with good reputation and connection in Europe would have signed Allen for 20 million? Markovic for 20mil? Believe it or not, the quality of manager also adds to the attraction of the club.
Again, it is not his fault since he is a young manager. He is hardly blessed by players that managers like Guardiola had when he started out.

No, that's a combination of Fergie and Moyes.

I must thank you for the chuckle, a City fan rubbing in a two year drought. Brilliant.

You'll have the last laugh when you're back to dominating English football again. Gah, keep forgetting Ferguson isn't the manager anymore. Fair play to you for not abandoning United for a team that is winning trophies though.

It means people that dislike United, such as yourself, have spent decades predicting causes for our downfall. I'm just trying to save you any further anguish, mate:hypo:

Well that's your opinion, certainly think Liverpool is a nicer city than Manchester on many fronts but I suppose my perspective might be different as a multimillionaire footballer. Even then, footballers in Manchester and Liverpool all tend to live out in lovely Cheshire and not in the cities themselves, they're 35 miles apart. London I can maybe accept more, although this is hardly a big country and nowhere is any great distance, given the fact he's from there originally I can imagine it's more of a pull.

Bit harsh, fantastic history and great to walk around. My view as a disheveled pleb is likely to be a world away from Sterling's though, I guess Manchester caters more to the very wealthy?

London's the only really mega-city in the country though, the natural magnet of the super wealthy. Outside of there then most players live out in the dormitory towns of provincial cities and towns.

To be honest with you mate I've come to like United a lot more since Ferguson went. Not because they'll never dominate again now he's gone, but because he was an arrogant wanker. I've not spent decades predicting United's downfall because being a lot older than you I knew there would be a downfall I didn't try and predict when it would be, I just knew it would happen because no team dominates indefinitely and I'd imagine if Ferguson was the manager when you were born that might be something you and your generation might struggle to come to terms with.

Further anguish? Not really. Out of the current top 4 I'd rather United win the league than Chelsea or City. I like Van Gaal, he seems like a well grounded manager who doesn't bullshit and whinge like a lot of other managers

The sooner you come to terms with the fact that the dominance you've become accustomed to has gone the better for you though.

Do many Prem footballers actually live in London tho? I suppose they might but I sort of imagine them to live out in the home counties, so all the Chelsea players have mansions in Weybridge and the Arsenal lot live in whatever the Herts equivalent is, etc.

I think our stature and wealth will see us there or thereabouts for a long, long time. Domination might be harder, but then it is for any team at the moment in this league.

Yeah, your stature and wealth will probably see you there or thereabouts, providing you've always got a good manager. It is hard for any team to dominate like United did nowadays, I see that as a good thing cos it makes things more competitive.

Regarding Sterling, Liverpool should see what the outcome of the meeting is on Friday and sell him if he wants to go. They should get at least £25m for him which the club should try and invest in a decent striker and CB.

If the player is acting like that then it's a player that you do not want at your club, we all know the guy has potential but with an attitude like what he is showing at Liverpool they are not going to get the full potential out of him. Bite the hand of any club that will give them 25 Million and improve there squad in the right areas and that will benefit the club a lot more.
