Only on chapter 3 about 30% in. The amount of rocks or fences my horse has fallen over and gone flying is incredible.

I love that you have to look after the health and general upkeep of your character and horse. I set up camp in the mountains and when Arthur woke up the next morning his health was draining fast because I’d forgotten to put him some winter clothes on. Got me a nice snug bearskin coat now tho.

Arthur’s
TB diagnosis
is interesting. It’s changed the way I behave in the world, put my actions into perspective. All without really changing the core gameplay mechanic much at all. Keen to see what they do with this. It’s not exactly ‘Papers, Please’ level of ludic storytelling, but it’s refreshing to see something of that sort in a triple A game (and a Rockstar title no less).

completed the main game side stuff to complete

I almost cried when it ended, the best game ive ever played, even better than my all time favourite Final Fantasy 7 (although the remake might change my opinion again)

absolute gaming class in every way, wide open world, plenty to explore, plenty of secrets, plenty of mini side games, plenty of beautiful atmospheric backdrops, tons of humour

well done Rockstar games

please make a rdr3 although if they proceed after rdr1 the wild west era is practically ended, maybe another prequel?

Love this game, the attention to detail and random shit is really good. I set up camp before heading off to kill a beaver for a satchel upgrade. It went to the cut scene, but then stopped because the hillbillies pitched up and it kicked off. I'm still on chapter 3 (glitched with 4 missing camp characters). Last night I was heading back to camp at night and rode past some kind of party going on in a wooded area. On closer inspection it was a klan rally. I did my duty and swat a couple of stick of dynamite in the midst if it.

What's the crack with catching legendary fish? Is it just a case of being VERY patient? I'm using the appropriate bait, but not catching any legendarys.

The only legendary fish I've caught so far was part of the Veteran stranger missions and it was a real bastard to reel in.

If you leave the random KKK rallies to play out their little bit before killing them you get a pleasant surprise in my experience. For example...
Came across one involving three Klan members trying to erect a large wooden cross which collapsed and fell on two of them killing them, the other one then began walking away in defeat so I shot him.

Also came across one where a member set the cross ablaze and ended up setting himself on fire sending the others into a panic before I finished them off.

I've come across some other great random encounters including a hermit woman out in the wilderness.

I've not been on it much since finishing the main story but I've still got about 15% until full completion so I reckon there's a lot of fun I'm yet to come across.

I rushed through the main story a little bit and kind of regret it because during my random mooching about I'm coming across some great little bits I missed.

I'm also trying to either study or hunt all the wildlife and flora in the game. I'm getting a bit frustrated about having not seen a single beaver (no jokes please) during my entire time playing it, especially seeing as I need a beaver pelt for crafting. I spent the best part of an hour trawling the streams and rivers of Roanoke Ridge the other night to no avail.

Also to anyone else who has finished the main story.
It's a little frustrating to me that John can't swim. I tried crossing some relatively deep water and got into difficulties and he just floundered about for a bit before finally drowning. I mean there's very little call for swimming in the game but it came in handy to reach some of the islands in the lakes and rivers when I couldn't be arsed finding a boat.

Do you know if i'll get an opportunity to observe another Klan rally after trashing the first one I saw?

Yeah, I bet the big legendary fish are hard to bring in. Muskies are pain in the arse as it is. took me ages to get a beaver too, but there were quite a few on the map directly under the letter E in the Hanover part of New Hanover. It's hillbilly country though so make sure you're tooled up.

I'm trying to leave off the main missions to spin it out for as long as I can. Last few nights I've been working my way through getting the satchels that Pearson crafts because I keep getting the can't loot all the animal stuff due to lack of satchel space. I'm on my last one that expands space in all categories. It's gonna involve taking a cougar out and in my last encounter with one it took me by surprise and ripped off my face.

Does anyone know if there's a mission attached to the mad preacher in the river? I want to kill him.

Killing the random encounters shouldn't matter. They'll spawn again after a time. Also they'll spawn in different places dependent on how far into the game you are.

the only beaver I've killed is the legendary beaver, forgot where it is but the map shows the location of certain animals I think?

How many chapters are there? I'm on three, but trying to spin the game out for as long as possible by crafting stuff.

Cheers Craig.

Has anyone fallen foul of the missing characters glitch? I did and subsequently learned how to avoid it, but too late. I'm going to wait until the patch before I continue the story. Another issue I've been coming up against is the shopkeeper not being around in the bait shop. It gives me the option to steal items but not the special baits. I've tried sleeping to pass game days, but still she's not around. I'll maybe try heading off to Strawberry to get a bath hand job and then return and see what happens.

As we know the online Beta rolls out for everyone tomorrow. I have a question though. Will it be possible, like in GTA to set up invite only game lobbies? I

As of yet it isn't but expect that to change once we've passed the beta stage.

Played a couple of online sessions so far. One with Kev where he kept disappearing and one with Ian where we got through quite a few mini games and a couple of missions.

The in game economy is shite, it's a long slog making money and everything is overpriced. As a player who doesn't spend extra money on in game currency (I've already forked out £50 for the fucking game) this is going to be slightly annoying but I can live with it. Of course pretty much all gripes are pointless this early into it.

I'm still well in the early stages and only have about $40 and a bit of gold so I'm considering recreating my online character as I rushed the creation a bit to get into the game and reckon I can make him look a lot better.

Early overall opinion though is that it's going to be a lot of fun.

Hmm, I just want to really chlll with my son on it and not have to encounter the sort of dickheads I found on GTA online who are just hellbent on shooting everyone they see.

I'll join up with anyone here though who is playing on xbox.

I'm guilty of that on occasion but when some randomer is stood in front of you doing emotes they're asking for a bullet between the eyes I reckon.

Created a new online character and he looks worse than the first one. Good news is I’ve not lost my accumulated gold or cash.

Had a couple more online sessions. With the in game economy being so terrible I have been stopping at pretty much any building I come across and trying the door. I've been able to enter about 50% of the buildings I've come across and there's always something to loot, from gun oil to provisions (mainly canned food and alcohol) and also raiding random barns will usually yield some useful horse items. Braithwaite Manor is one of the better locations I've robbed where I got a fair amount of provisions a bit of jewellery (I mean it's practically worthless online but $ is $) and maxed out on apples for my horse so my advice to anyone just getting started is don't waste your money on these things because they're free all around the map.

The gang hideouts spread across the map are also a great source of supplies and you can obviously loot the dead bandit bodies too.

I found a horse and tried to sell it at the stable but was unable to so that was a little disappointing as it would have been a decent money spinner I reckon.

The death matches are ok but I've so far been unable to successfully enter a horse race. I think these aspects of the online experience will be more fun when you're online with a few friends though.

I've been told that they've acknowledged the economy problem and might be releasing a patch this week to sort this problem out. I get that it's Beta but surely R* foresaw this issue. Dunno if it's true but I've also heard that by the end of next week they're gonna release an update that they say will suit all types of players. I'm taking that to mean the griefer problem will be sorted. Hope so.
