Grant Holt, if you can get him fitter. Michael Rose as a squad player

'Despising' an opposition footballer for nearly a year based on a few dives or time-wasting or whatever is the behaviour of a sad sack is it not?

What did he do again, that has got you raging like a firing inferno anyway?

Personally I don't really rate him and think he'll be backup for Brophy next season.
He was responsible for their late equaliser. You'd have thunk the PV lot would appreciate that

He played for Bristol City in the Championship, where admittedly, he falls a little short as a regular starter, as would most midfielders in this league.

Quality box-to-box players at this level are few and far between, we got lucky finding Alan Browne at Cork. Can't say I know a great deal about Williams as I remember him playing in defence for MK Dons, point still stands though, I reckon Kilkenny would be a good addition to any squad in this league... whether they need him at this current moment in time is another matter.

He had Welsh, Browne and Johnson ahead of him last year but still made a big contribution. I think you're being overly critical based on a few games ages ago and are doing him a disservice.

He's one of my least favourite types of midfielder. A player who needs personnel around him to bring out his best qualities (and those qualities aren't really much more than being nice and tidy in possession and playing the odd Hollwood pass). You used to call them luxury players, but but that's just a kinder phrase for 'one-dimensional'. League One teams, in particular, seem to be obsessed with them.

You rarely get the complete package at this level and if you do, you tend to lose them fairly quickly.

Anton Rodgers is ours, and he's a fecking huddy. You can hear the crowd audibly tut in unison when he gets on the ball as invarioubly its a sideways/backwards pass or a hollywood pass out of play. Awful footballer.

That is if your idea of Luxury is buying the 'platinum' fairy liquid.

I'm not looking for the complete package, just a player who can have a positive effect despite the variables the game throws up. Whether that be off the ball or on it. I'm not a fan of workhorses, either, particularly, but you can at least rely on them to let their presence be known.

They tend to divide opinion: so much so that consensus is often hard to find even in coaching circles. Kenny Jackett has an obsession with that sort of player, when most of our supporters could see we were playing well despite the likes of Liam Trotter and Adam Bolder, not because of them.

Hopefully Rodgers won't get near the first team next season. Never seen a deep lying midfielder so inept at his defensive duties. Unfortunately he seems well thought of by Williams.

Released:
Anthony Kay - already signed for a club apparently. Probably Rochdale/Oldham/Crewe/Bury/Chesterfield/Doncaster
Matt Upson - going to retire apparently
Jordan Spence - think he'll find a championship club.
Nicky Maynard - rejected the contract

Gutted about Maynard, he would have been brilliant in League 1, the rest is a bit meh, with George Baldock being described as the future of the club Spence wasn't going to sit on the bench, Upson it's a damn shame he couldn't play more than 30 minutes as he was very good when he played, and Kay did well last season but still lives up north and was pants in the championship, so not really sad to see him go

We've released Drew Talbot, Byron Harrison, Michael Onovwigun, Mani Dieseruvwe, Jordan Slew, Chris Herd and Aaron Chapman.

Can't mention Drew without commenting on the superb service he's given to the club over 7 and a half years. If he doesn't end up at L2 level at least i'll be amazed.

Ours as below:

The following players are still under contract:
Jak Alnwick
Ryan Boot
Nathan Smith
Remie Streete
Ben Purkiss
Anthony Grant
Sam Kelly
Sam Foley
JJ Hooper

The following players have been offered new contracts:
Sam Johnson
Adam Yates
Carl Dickinson
Richard Duffy
Billy Reeves
Michael Brown
Michael O’Connor
Byron Moore
Enoch Andoh
Ryan Lloyd
Chris Birchall
Louis Dodds
Ajay Leitch-Smith

The following players have been released:
Chris Neal
Lewis Bergin
Ryan McGivern
Chekaine Steele
Omar Haughton
Colin Daniel
Jonathan Kapend
Achille Campion
Theo Robinson

Yates and Birchall will be controversial with our fans but to be fair they'd be dirt cheap cover options which wont be too bad with/if the budget is reduced.

Occy will go if Scunthorpe, Barnsley or Peterborough come in for him as purely location is a problem.

Keep most of them, add a decent centre half, winger and a half decent striker and il be happy.

How did Slew do? He was dreadful for us last season! Adams had chased him for years but was dire, randomly kicked a Fleetwood player of the ball and got himself sent off, cost us the game and was never seen again!

Probably best we don't go there. We've released three strikers in Slew, Mani and Harrison...if you put all their attributes together into one player you'd still have the least effective L1 forward possible.

I'm sure Yates and Birchall are cracking lads or whatever cliche you want to insert there but I couldn't give a fuck if they are cheap as that should not be a consideration. Neither of them (and especially Yates) are good enough at this level and there is nothing they've contributed in recent times that one of our youth players couldn't. O'Connor being offered a deal is just going through the motions, he'll leave I expect. Of all of them hopefully Andoh will stay, he could make us a lot of money some day if he can recover fully.

Shame to see Kapend get moved on, there were high hopes for him when he was signed to professional terms.

I am a fan of Page and don't want to knock him but it's seemed he's repeated the same mistake with the retained list again. Not overly impressed.

I think Birchall, Yates and Lloyd have a job for life. We're probably the only football league club who give out contracts to players who have offered literally nothing in the past season.

Lloyd- Can anyone name one good thing he has done in a Vale shirt? Been around the first team for 3 years now and don't think he's started a game.

Birchall- Not a League One player anymore. Page clearly knows this as he doesn't play him or bring him on, so why give him a contract?

Yates- Exactly the same as Birchall. This guy has been robbing a living from Vale for years now.

How big was Vale's squad last year.! No wonder your owner wants to make cut backs.

I reckon Jones will go to Bury. We wouldn't give him the wage he wanted - simply because his performances this season didn't justify it, and rumour has it that he's already got a new club lined up. Bury tend to pay well so probably end up there.

Good player though if kept fit.

Very good comments, Page sticks by the same ' boys club ' year in year out. They are good for the dressing room and good characters blah blah blah, yes Page but absolute cack footballers.

Today's retained list is the final nail in the coffin for my season ticket. It will cost me more in the long run but i am not renewing.
Yates: ousted by Veseli, Grimmer, Purkiss, loaned to Northampton,, what more does he offer Vale ?
Birchall : complained last year about loyalty, didn,t see the loyalty when he bogged off to Coventry, overweight pudding.

Lloyd : still a prospect at 24 ? played maybe 10 games in 4 seasons. One cracker at Walsall in JPT a few years back, looks like needs a good meal in him. What has his season at Chester done to warrant a deal ? didn,t even score a goal for them.
Johnson : Too laid back for his own good, went from probable number one to number four after a hideous pre-season last year. In goal all season for a relegated Halifax side.

Cases could of also been made for Duffy Dicko and Moore not being offered deals.

All those who say well they are only on £500 a week, i would say get rid and have lesser squad and a top player on 2 grand a week .

I know it is Friday the 13th but what an utter nightmare Page, you have officially lost it big time.

Just a horrible obnoxious excuse for a footballer, same reason Prem fans hated Savage, Terry, Barton etc etc.
The bloke is a weasel. Basically a cheating cnut who thinks he is gods gift.

Lloyd deserves another year for me...

The reason I say this is because he's never had regular football at first team level, this season he has finally had that at Chester so worth seeing if he has benefited from this and developed based on that. If not then he can go next year.

On the flip side don't we get a fee if he leaves if we offer him a deal because of age?

We're reducing our wage bill next season. We'll only sign him if he's reasonable with his demands. Plus it depends if any of our contracted players leave too.

Perhaps if he was good enough he would have played regular first team football? Whilst he hardly set the Conference alight at Chester did he?
How can someone rarely play for 3 years and be offered a new contract?
