Perhaps if he was good enough he would have played regular first team football? Whilst he hardly set the Conference alight at Chester did he?
How can someone rarely play for 3 years and be offered a new contract?

If he isn't good enough he will be loaned and we won't pay wages if he chooses to leave we get a fee (minimal but better than nothing)

i,m sorry i don,t buy any of this. Keeping Johnson and Lloyd won,t cost Vale even one penny ? i think not.
Lloyd had one good game Walsall away in JPT and has done diddly squat since, it is all about opinion and in my opinion Daniel is better than him.

The Yates argument is cobblers too, if Dicko stays he can play right back too, so can Nathan Smith.
Birchall well, Moore if signs is right sided, so too can Dodds at a push. We have plenty of cover.

Top and bottom of it is we are top heavy with dirge who will play no part, last years retained list was a joke, if the club is serious about progressing then this one is an almighty kick in the gonads.

The only other backward step i could see would be to re-sign Luke Prosser !!!

Club legend and I'm gutted cause he does so much for the community and city but if he's not injured he's away with DR Congo. Love the bloke and wish him all the best.

The others are shit so good riddance.
Are his injury problems that bad? As I said earlier, I'd drive up to Peterborough myself to pick him up and drive him back here to make sure we had any chance of getting him back! He has a huge soft spot for us like he does yourselves, we badly need someone like him back as our captain!

Lloyd deserves another year for me...

The reason I say this is because he's never had regular football at first team level, this season he has finally had that at Chester so worth seeing if he has benefited from this and developed based on that. If not then he can go next year.

On the flip side don't we get a fee if he leaves if we offer him a deal because of age?
He ain't good enough and should have been moved on, I'm just hoping none of the dead wood sign.

Not massively but you know what Gaby is like. The way he throws himself in front of everything naturally he picks up niggles etc... He's past that stage of his career where he's able to dose up on painkillers and play through it.

I'd have kept him. I still don't think we'll find better defenders at this level. Unfortunately like much of football, we want a defender that can play too, and again, as you know with Gaby, he's a Premier League defender and a Sunday League footballer.

I really hope he goes somewhere like Orient, somewhere that's like home to him. He's been an absolute machine for 8 years for us and he's always welcome back. Posh legend, no doubt. I know he really loves this club back so hopefully he'll be back one day in a coaching capacity or something!

Ours was released today, the following will all be leaving:

Marco Motta
Reza
Zak Ansah
Alex Kelly
Ayo Obileye
Josh Staunton
Joe Piggott

Shame about Piggott he showed signs of real promise a few years back but hasn't quite happened for him. I would imagine he'll find a L2 side somewhere if not L1 soon enough.

Callum Harriott and Alou Diarra trigger their one year extensions so that's good news.

Northampton's retained list:

The following players are under contract:

Adam Smith
Ryan Clarke
Brendan Moloney
Zander Diamond
Ryan Cresswell
Rod McDonald
David Buchanan
Ricky Holmes
Lawson D’Ath
Joel Byrom
John Joe O’Toole
Jason Taylor
Alfie Potter
Nicky Adams
Marc Richards
Sam Hoskins

The following player is out of contract and has been offered new terms:
Danny Rose

The following Academy player has been offered a two year professional contract:
Shaun McWilliams

The following players are out of contract and haven't been offered new terms:
Josh Lelan
Paul Corry
Chris Hackett
Evan Horwood

All loan players have returned to their parent clubs. (Collins, Prosser, Marquis)

Horwood and Hackett we have known since January as they have been out on loan.
Thought Corry would have been invited back for pre season as he has been injured since september.
Bit surprised Lelan has been released, Page looking for a more experienced RB back up? Hopefully not Yates.

We must rate Shaun McWilliams (CM), a two year contract moving up a league after being on the bench a couple of times this season.

Sawyers and Demetriou will definitely turn down their deals. I also expect Milan Lalkovic to do the same.

We've got rid of 10 players and transfer listed 7. It should be noted these are 1st team players too we are really going from the start again. Also dean Hammond triggered a year extension in his clause on 15k a week despite being told he will never play, he has instantly been transfer listed and become the most despised man at the club. He will now train with the kids picking up his 15k. Adkins and brannagan are responsible for that in his loan clause. I hope Hammond has an early death the wanker.

I imagine if I was a professional football player in the third tier and was asked if I wanted to forfeit roughly £800k because I won't be in the first team I'd do the same. It'd really bother me what the fans thought of it though I reckon.

I understand that I can't believe it was in the contract. However there is a hell of a lot of players/people who have some decency about them who wouldn't do it. He's earnt a fortune over the last 5/6 years too obviously doesn't give a fuck about extending his football career.

On a serious note, and even though it's your lot, I can't help but finding it more annoying than funny that a League 1 club offered this kind of a deal to a 32 year old whose career was already in decline.

Tell me about it some of the figures I know we pay are a disgrace they really are. Hence the big clear out and the ones transfer listed are big big earners that's why there listed. The clubs been run shockingly in the last 2/3 years. Mal brannagan allowed all this he was basically in charge. The chairman pay people to do this work and trust them but it's turned into a circus. Biggest wage bill in the league by a distance with a group of awful footballers. Anyway were starting again from scratch our chairman is the man in charge again instead of leaving others too it. Let's hope from my point of view anyway things are heading forwards at last. We have about 6/7 decent 1st team players plus the kids at the minute, build on that in the right way and with the resources we have to be back up sooner rather than later.

United pay £15k a week for Dean Hammond? :eyes: I doubt we're paying much more for some of our key players.

Flynns the definition of average who is no loss, its average players like him why we're still here...pretty sure he signed a new contract after there was interested in him from a championship club at the time (Brighton?) which inflated his wages. Kennedy its a shame but injuries have ruined him. JCR a reasonable option off the bench but not fussed either way.

Relatively happy with ours. Doesn't matter if we had offered Sawyers 10 years on 5k a week, he is gone, out the door, goodbye. Demetriou is absolutely gone unless we offered him a hefty wage rise, those don't occur at Walsall and he wants to go back to London. Despite his bad form, there will be offers on the table out there for Mantom, purely based on reputation and goals despite him being dogshit for the last 3 months.

Forde, Taylor, Downing, Flanagan, Cook (Although Cook may be willing to drop down a level to have a go at being the number one forward somewhere, I'd imagine we have dropped his wages to from his original contract) I'd expect to sign and it would be nice to get Osbourne fit to see what he can offer, he will come back to us I'd imagine as there's nobody out there at this level willing to take a punt on a player with such an abysmal injury record.

Reading between the lines, Lalkovic has pretty much said on Twitter he will be leaving if someone offers him more money/a longer deal.

You're right he is but the last third of the season saw Chey Dunkley come into the side and kept Mullins out. Chey started to play with confidence, reducing errors in his game and winning everything in the air which meant we finally started scoring from set pieces.

I'm sure Mullins will be a great signing for any League 2 side and look forward to seeing who Appleton has in mind to replace him.

Bowery didn't do too badly here. He came to us unfit but still managed 7 goals in 17 appearances. I suspect his wage expectations are just too high for the impact sub he would be for us.

We've already spoken to him about coming here.

Also, we tried to sign Bowery from Rotherham when you did - But our owner decided to go with Armand Gnanduillet instead..............

Technically, I think is actually quite good for League Two.

But he doesn't get the crowd on his side and hasn't got a footballing brain, he can be lazy as well. Our crowd was getting on his back recently towards the end of the season in our 3-2 win against Dagenham, after he selfishly didn't pass the ball when he should've done and when he didn't chase down a loose ball to give him a one on one with the keeper. He then scored the winning goal (With a very good finish I might add), cupped his ear went to the crowd and mouthed "fuck you." He was subbed straight away, sums him up I reckon.
