Swindon to Oxford as well wasn't it?

Oxford fans were complimentary of him.

Funnily enough, we had him on trial before he ended up going to FGR and then yourselves. He played in a reserve game and did ok but the team were horrific and he was never called back.
Also scored 6 in 6 for Chester before he came here. A lot of work was done with him though as he was pretty poor when he first came here...only to shit on us.
Also remember him shaking hands on going back to Oxford with Appleton (when out of contract) before re-signing for us - then took the piss by doing a handshake celebration after scoring against Oxford soon after. His boyhood team too, just shows what the guy is like.

If he scores the goals that keep us up, then he can sleep with my wife for all I care :D
Of course.
I did want Cheltenham to stay up for DC and the easy away day, but solely because of him maybe not now. I doubt he will have any tears if you got relegated though!

Saw that we were 150-1 so put on a quid so in the unlikely event we go down I'll have a bloody good night drowning my sorrows

Waste of a quid. Get a scratch card instead. No chance you will go down. Especially as none of us down here can string one win never mind a run together.

Don't think he was ever with us? Being a double Worzel and playing for Oxford he wouldn't be that welcome.

Gotta respect someone valuing their commute over tribalism, even if it cuts deep to the rest of us.

However, you cannot respect someone who is well past thirty still going by ''Matty'', should have abdicated from that with a formal statement in his late 20s!

Totally agree, although it will save any confusion with our manager when we play Cheltenham next month

Funnily enough - a lot of Cheltenham fans will be singing the same thing to your manager.

What did he do? Reading the history it looks like he played for you but then you got rid, not like he was a judas and forced a move or whatever?

He was part of the worst team in the club's history, made captain and then refused to train one time near the end of the season because he had a wedding to go to.

Personally, I don't care, but some of our fans took it as lacking the desire to help the team out - especially as captain. He's been hated ever since.

Big win for Vale, and all of a sudden they're back in with a shout.

Good Friday games are going to be huge. Cambridge and Burton with tough games against Barnsley and Wigan. Both could be drawn even further into the battle with Fleetwood and Cheltenham playing each other, if either side wins. If Port Vale's win has sparked a bit of confidence they also have a potentially winnable game against Rovers.

It's really tough to call now with all 5 not in fantastic form. I can see Burton and Cambridge going down although it will be interesting to see if Monk has been able to make an impact during this break.

Vale`s last game at home to Cambridge could be a tense affair.

Those run-ins:

Carlisle - I mean, they're gone basically, but still:

Screenshot 2024-03-24 150309.png

Fleetwood - still doable but that run-in is a stinker, and teams above them have game(s) in hand.
But if they can keep it going till the final day then that Burton game will be a brown trousers classic...

Screenshot 2024-03-24 150504.png

Chelts - played the least games of the teams down the arse end of the table, but those last 3 fixtures are an absolute bitch, with all three of their opponents still potentially going hell for leather for the playoffs.

Screenshot 2024-03-24 150841.png

Vale - four of these are against sides who are more or less on the beach. Another potential final day classic if they can keep their hopes alive till then.

Screenshot 2024-03-24 151257.png

Cambridge - a few games there with sides with bog all to play for, but some toughies too.

Screenshot 2024-03-24 151606.png

Burton - that looks pretty hideous to be honest - that run of Barnsley, OUFC and St Evenage does not look fun.

Screenshot 2024-03-24 151832.png

Reading - nominally they should be safe but you just can't rule out them getting another points hit before the end of the season, if their shifty owner can't flog the club.

Screenshot 2024-03-24 152100.png

Shrewsbury - that's actually a pretty shitty run-in. I'd fancy them to get at least something against the Gas, us, Charlton, and at a pinch Orient, but still. They do have decent form right now though.

Don’t be surprised if Burton have a bad Easter weekend they change managers again. From what I heard from some of their fans yesterday they are pretty much done with Patterson already. I’m still of the opinion the current bottom four will likely be the ones who will drop. Maybe it’s more a coin flip between Cheltenham and Burton now.

I’ve dropped my cv in as I feel I am
Better equipped than him as I was pretty good at sensible soccer in the 90s.
He is from stoke. So let’s hope he doesn’t worm himself into your club somehow.

I’d be stunned if that happened. He came to us at the end of his playing career and very much was in the conversation for one of the worst strikers I’ve seen. Totally disinterested as well as being a massive fan of them he wouldn’t be welcome. Just a shit time for football across Staffs. You have to go down as far as Tamworth in the NLN for anyone doing well.

Used to love Sensible World Of Soccer back in the day. Still think that’s the gold standard for all football computer games.

Great game that. We had a couple of tournaments with family and friends coming round (this was pre-online gaming for all you younglings).

I only lurk here but SWOS was the best.
Incidentally Cambridge were the only real side in the comedy Egg Cup, with all the players called long ball Larry and Dion Dublin up front.

Fleetwood gonners now you would think, but the rest are finally showing some spirit. Sounded a good win for us today, played far better than recent games, but need to follow it up on Monday now. It’s getting really interesting now, 2 from 6 still in the mix.

It’s the hope that kills you isn’t it. Resigned to our fate and now two wins on the bounce it looks closer again. Still think we’ll be one of the four but at least there’s been some sign of life. Will get a better idea against Northampton who are either not mailing it in (Rovers) or just not very good (Burton). If we can get something there then you can’t ask much more over this last week.

Think 49 points will be the safety mark.

Excellent win for Cambridge, huge win for Cheltenham against a relegation rival. Said it wouldn't take much for Vale to be in with a shout.

Those wins probably mean Shrewsbury have a little more work to do, likewise Reading and Charlton.

Reading are virtually safe now. The GD for them is worth an extra point to make up unless they miss payroll or something again in the remainder. Even then I think there’s a cutoff where any further deduction would count next season instead.

Looking at the remaining fixtures Shrewsbury are back in it now. They don’t have a very good run in but would need to go on a terrible run now to not hit the 48-50 point mark.

Hardly a surprise, but Carlisle officially down now.

Advantage Vale today, yes it’s only a point, but an away point against a decent side is a positive sign for a side that completely failed to get any sort of new manager bounce when Moore came in.

Chelts still have 1 game in hand over Vale and 2 over Burton, so they’re not down and out yet, but they really have to go some in the next few games given that their final 3 fixtures are fucking horrendous.

Burton v Chelts on 16 April will be a game for the ages.
