That's what happened with us a few years ago. Finished on 47 points (maybe 48 CBA to look) and only stopped up as tranmere and Cheltenham were so bad. We lost every week but so did they.

Sometimes you can be extraordinarily shit and stay up quite comfortably in the end
We were in 2001/2 but stayed up, think we got less points than both times we went out league!

Sweeney pushed the player in the back. Not hard, but enough for the striker to react. Showing his inexperience in playing at centre back.

Everyone was being pushed in the back at some point in that game, Huxtable was flipping a coin half the time as to whether he gave it or not. I 100% did not see anything in that for a penalty to be given. How he gives that and not the smash to Akinde's head then I don't know.

It looked extremely soft (as did the penalty conceded at Yeovil) but you can’t give an opposition forward any excuse to fall down in the box.

The radio reckoned that was one of our worst displays for years, so I dread to think how awful the match must have been.
I can't speak for where it ranks in your performances over the last few years, but it was really inept. You started well in the first 20 minutes and had a few pea rollers, but our keeper could have doffed his cap on them. Last 20 minutes of the first half we had the better of, but it wasn't great. 2nd half, we got a lucky break for the goal, but after that, you never even had a decent sight of goal. What was even more strange was your complete lack of urgency, you looked so leggy and slow, there was no upping of the tempo, no throwing balls into the box. It was like watching us for most of the season. Clearly it was a big off day for you as you haven't lost all that much in the last few months and I'm sure won't play that badly again.

Why was Szmodics not in the team/squad out of interest? Thought he might have been injured, but your local rag didn't seem to suggest there was anything up?

I think the game of the season down there will be Morecambe vs chesterfield.

If Morecambe can get the home win or the draw it'll be a big result for them given the context

Brett Huxtable was regularly talked about in the Conference forum as being the worst referee people had ever seen, so then he gets a promotion to the Football League, niceeeeeeeee.
Looking at him I guess he struggles too keep up with play too.........

It may look from above that we are dead and buried but don't believe that ! Since Westley has come in we are organised and scrap for everything . We've played with the exception of Yeovil promotion chasing teams and have performed pretty well. Big game v Carlisle Tuesday we should win, I think we will catch those above who look in poor form. Grimsby seem to be in bad shape however we have to focus on the wins and see where it gets us.

Our referee today, a Mr Huxtable, was a complete shithouse. Nearly approaching the size of a slim Matt Rhead, he lumbered about the pitch making every possible attempt to infuriate players and fans alike. Never known anything like it except from the usual performances of Kettle and Ward.

I implore everyone to watch the highlights and please, PLEASE (for the sake of my own sanity) tell me how Sweeney caused that penalty to be given. It was a shambolic decision and the team were rightly fuming. Unfortunately, his worst incident isn't on Sky's highlights at the moment - Akinde got full on smashed in the head by the goalkeeper who completely misjudged an attempted punch clearance. Play stopped with both down on the pitch, referee looks confused, lumbers over to the lino who presumably was too busy trying to work out the difference between an onside and an offside player to have seen the GK's murder attempt. Then the referee lumbers right over to the other side of the pitch to talk to the 4th official who must've been too pre-occupied with Westley asking to be called 'Medal-Winner like my kids call me' to have seen the incident. The referee then decides that this obviously couldn't be a penalty (I mean, that would just be too sensible for this oaf) so he gives a drop ball in a completely unrelated part of the pitch. Awful, awful performance.

As for us, we played great in the first half and the final 20 minutes. Pressed really well, totally deserved our goal and definitely should've come out winners. However, Westley for some reason decided to stick every player behind the halfway line for the first part of the second half and Accrington ran rings around us. The winger they brought on (Sousa?) looks a real player.

Just an annoying, frustrating day (but nice to see a semi-decent performance last for longer than 15 minutes from us)

We've had Huxtable twice this season and he is bloody dreadful. Fortunately for us he seems to like us, his two games in charge have been Mansfield at home (we won 3-0) and last weeks hammering of Port Vale.

I hope we get him a couple more times this season just to see us over the line.

The fact Huxtable et all got promoted from the NL just shows how few decent refs there are.
We've Stocks bridge four times this season he's awful.
The fact Kettle is still Reffing again shows there aren't many decent ones about in the bottom divisions, any decent ones quickly get up to the championship and get the dregs.

We still have Chesterfield, Vale and Barnet to play at home. They are the only possible routes for us to stay up.

Apparently he's been nursing a bit of a back injury recently which is why he's only been having odd cameos, but needs a proper rest for it now.

So on watching it again, I'm still unmoved on Sweeney doing very little wrong to give away a penalty there - very, very soft decision - and Akinde absolutely should have been awarded a penalty.

Huxtable has absolutely fucked it in that match. I hope there were some assessors there.

Sweeney pushed him so was a penalty. As Barnet fan that was an easy call

Our club needs to do for those games what it's doing for the Exeter game this Saturday and knock down the prices to get more in and try and make it intimidating, absolutely huge games for us if we want any chance of staying up but this run we're on just stinks of the same crap as that one when we went down. I'm fully expecting relegation.

No chance. At worst he placed his hands onto him - he went down incredibly heavily. It was a very soft decision that shouldn't have been given (especially given the things he wasn't giving all over the pitch, for both teams). Very poor performance.

My thoughts as a neutral - not a penalty.

Still haven't watched that Akinde incident that Urban has made reference to though. Is it on the match highlights?

Talking of penalties Vanni do you think the ref felt sorry for us to give us that one?

Defender on the deck so Jaiyesimi runs into him and falls over, if that penalty had meant something there might've been more said about it i reckon.

Urban it was a pen fella , as much as I didn't want it to be. Put your hands on the back of an opponent and it will be a pen. Trust me ive watched a lot of football and it was a pen. I'm absolutely cool with that.

Agreed with you, I don't think a penalty either, he just fell to his knees

Huxtable is without a doubt the worst ref we have had this season. Absolute helmet.

Huxtable sent off a Newport player when we played down just before Xmas, nearly caused a riot!
Red card rescinded.
Have seen it a few since he was miles behind too so god how he gave a red!

Sadly it's only on the full length iFollow footage.
I have no doubt it was a pen, as far as I can tell the keeper tries to punch the ball, misses and cleans out Akinde .

We had Gavin Ward referee our loss against Grimsby and Kettle against Cheltenham and both were their usual shithouse selves. Huxtable was right up there with both of them (and Ward in particular was a horror show). That picture above shows the 'challenge' pretty well - Akinde virtually got MMA'd in midair with a dropball given miles away from where it happened in response! Madness.

Agree to disagree - I just don't see how placing your hands against someone's back instantly 1) gives them the right to throw themselves to the floor and 2) means the contact was strong enough to give a penalty. It wasn't even in a particularly threatening area. Think more people would say it isn't a pen than the reverse - I know plenty around me were gobsmacked. Regardless, we deserved to concede at that point anyway given how we chose to play for those opening 20 minutes of the 2nd half!

That's what I reckon Fish, I mean what other reason could there be :) Ultimately it didn't really mean much so the incident barely got a mention.

Its not a penalty. .When it comes to whether something is a pen or not I generally ask, what would your reaction be if every foul of that nature was given. If the answer is outraged, then its not a pen.

Would be interesting to see the Akinde one. I feel keepers get far too much protection and leeway when it comes to fouls.

We were utterly appalling again. I can't see us picking up more than about 10 points from now until the end of the season.

The first vocal dissent against the board on Saturday, and fans clashed with Ashley Carson in the train station also. It will get very messy in the coming weeks and will probably end with Mansfield relegating us and a riot in mid April

Ashley Carson ... ran away from fans questioning him in Carlisle and replied arrogantly with 'I'm not going anywhere' 'We've got the 3rd highest budget in the league'. The budget would not have to be so large if we had not wasted hundreds of thousands appointing and backing Dean Saunders or Gary Caldwell, after refusing to back Paul Cook who has gone onto further success with Pompey and Wigan. Caldwell failed last season, so we then give him a summer to waste a handsome budget on awful overpaid players. We then sack him and pay him off, appointing Jack Lester and giving him 10 bob to strengthen in January. It is history repeating itself only this time we stare the non league in the face. Looking at our run in, I cannot see us staying up - something which I feel most fans are starting to agree on. The sooner Allen & Co are out of this club the better.

Genuinely feel desperately sorry for Chesterfield fans - there, but for the grace of God, go most of us.

Hopefully, if the worst does happen, it will rid you of the cancer running your club.

Good luck.
