We won’t make it anywhere near 50 points either.

We signed what looked to be a half decent striker in January, unfortunately after 2 games he’s got himself injured long term. Add to that our new midfielder being on the wrong end of a brutal unpunished red card challenge last night that has probably ended his season, any faint hopes of a revival for us are just about gone. We were back to looking an ineffective clueless toothless outfit last night. I’m just preying Stevenage don’t start stringing some wins together from somewhere otherwise we’ll be in big big trouble.

if Stevenage can get within 5 or 6 points of us with 2 to play then they could stay up with them playing us on the final day.

Oh for goodness sake... we had to lose at some point and I just knew as soon as we did you'd be back to predicting our relegation. At this stage of the season, even if we lose, every time Stevenage lose as well (as did Macc and Mansfield) then we're closer to safety.

I don't think we were even that bad last night; it's difficult to judge since the conditions were even worse than they were against Swindon on Saturday but Cheltenham certainly weren't better than us and they're in the playoff places. The ball was blowing around everywhere and I think Cheltenham possibly played the conditions better than we did. It wasn't a game for accurate passes and long balls, more one to play the percentages, play set-pieces (although even they were difficult in the wind) and be physical.

Just got unlucky really with the linesman's poor positioning meaning he didn't spot the offside for the Cheltenham goal* and at the other end we had a few chances but didn't finish them. Neither side really created much though, both defences did well and I think a draw would have been a fair result.

Beech hasn't indicated at all that Kayode is out long term, you're just making that up. I hope Guy's injury isn't too serious, it doesn't look like a fracture at least in the photo from the moment it happened; maybe a twisted ankle or something. For what it's worth I didn't think it was a foul at the time and the Carlisle players didn't seem to claim for one either, just a bit of a freak injury.

*I wasn't sure at the time but looking at the highlights you can see Reid and one other Cheltenham player definitely offside as the ball is kicked. The linesman looks a bit behind the line of the defenders though

Agree, although in Mansfield's case their season has been incredibly poor, so you can see why they're down. That squad/budget should be challenging, not one of the worst sides in the division. They could well have gone down without Bury and Macc's troubles, which is ridiculous.
It would be the mother of all ironies if the season after they miss out on automatic promotion thanks to Bury overspending, they avoid relegation thanks to Bury collapsing.

I was right in front of it in the paddock and the guys studs were right up, went right through him, took a bit of the ball yes but dangerous. It did not look like a let break, he sort of went up and then landed funny, my guess would be an ACL.

Kayode himself has indicated he’ll be out long term. He said he won’t be playing for a while. To me if it was only a couple of weeks he wouldn’t say “a while”.

My best hope is that we not only manage to avoid relegation, but also we finished above the bottom two.

Just so we don’t have to deal with the ‘you should have been relegated etc’ because quite frankly that will be a ridiculous argument, considering we all knew about the situation for the entire season.

Why would that worry you? We used to get that, didn't give a fuck. Main thing is not going down, whatever method you use.

Was actually pretty funny, remember some fans of other clubs who didn't realise we'd been reprieved (again) getting annoyed when they saw us on the fixture list, "what the fuck are those shit tinpot bastards still doing here, they're like that shit you can't scrape off your shoe" etc. Good times.

I personally don’t give a fuck where we finish providing it’s not 24th.

The sooner this season fucks off the better

The culture of the players that was bourne under Evans festered under flitcroft and ran riot under the hopeless dempster. Most of the old guard of players are complete c***.QUOTE]

Obviously none of this was ever mentioned on here under Evans and Flitcroft.

Most fans have been there when the desire from supporters is for a complete overhaul only leaving half a dozen or so of the current underperforming squad. Alas, massive overhauls of squads in the summer don't often succeed the next season.

Yeah that's what happened to us over the summer. Think only Bolton in the EFL had overhauled more of their squad than we did.

Hopefully Beech is able to get something out of the players who underperformed under Pressley, enough that we don't need another massive overhaul. He's already brought in a good number of his own players so that should limit the amount of changes that need to be made in summer.

Not yet, nor are we.

Pessimism is a staple of a league 2 side trying to avoid relegation.

Mind I lasted 20 minutes at morecambe before I got bored and went back to the pub. Against Carlisle I went for a beer in the sandy pate bar at half time and didn’t come back out. If it weren’t for the social side of things I’m not sure I’d bother at all for the rest of the season.

Just the thought of being back in the bananarama league sends a shudder down my spine, urgh.

Safe is a strong word, and one that fills most L2 fans with fear. We're highly unlikely to go down at least.

We're 12 points ahead of Stevenage;
Stevenage have 13 games to play;
Even if we lose all our remaining games we'd still finish above them unless they can pretty much get a point per game.
Over the season as a whole they've only been managing 0.66 points per game and in 2020 they've only been average 0.5 points per game.

Even at our modest 2020 average of just over a point per game, with 14 games remaining the way we're going Stevenage would need to pick up 26 points in 13 games to catch us. That's title winning form, Swindon haven't even quite managed 2 points per game.

If, as HG fears, we go into terminal decline, then let's say we start only picking up 0.5 points per game. Stevenage 'only' then have to pick up 19 points to finish above us, just under 1.5 points per game, round about the level of Port Vale and Bradford.

In conclusion, Stevenage need to somehow become the best team in the division, and immediately, if Carlisle are to be relegated. Even if Carlisle's form collapses between now and April, Stevenage would have to at the very least double their current rate of winning points.

Sorry Darren, this turned into more a response to HG than you.

It’s all well and good saying we’re safe. I’d be surprised if 34 points has ever been enough to stay up. We need to get to 42/43 points before I declare us safe. Less than that may be enough but we can’t thhink like that, stranger things have happened than Stevenage stringing together a couple of wins.

I don’t care what any Carlisle fan says, if the gap became 6 points over the next few games it would put the shits up our fans.

We’ll get nothing at Crawley on Saturday, but Morecambe at home the following week has to be 3 points, for a change.

We had the biggest overhaul in the football league apparently this season the club have had patience from the fans but if decent signings arent made in the summer and we dont challenge next season that will soon change.

You’re as much of a muppet as Hello Gregory. You’ll both be fine.
youve not watched us play all season. Fuck me.

I’ve somehow managed to watch Cambridge 5 times this season and you can barely kick a ball, yet there you are 9 points and 9 places better than us, and won 4-0 at field mill.

I saw you beat us at our place. You had plenty about you and were the better side even with 11 men. You should have beaten us comfortably.

Aside from that, you have a 10 point cushion over a side who at their current point-rate won’t even reach your current points total. As I said, you’ll be fine.

I dare say we will, but with respect as well - we’ve gone from chasing promotion last season to well this, and whereas Cambridge and Carlisle - mentioned in this / have had times better than mansfield, maybe their expectations this season were slightly more modest. We’re a laughing stock.

I'm interested to know, which players the Mansfield fans think are causing any issues off the pitch?

I was shocked that Craig Davies didn't even get thrown on for the final couple of minutes last night............

Any chance it's Neal Bishop causing issues behind the scenes?

Yes. He’s a dick.

Stuck his fingers up at the fans at morecambe (in the 20 minutes I could be bothered to watch before going) when he got booed for booting the ball out of play when in the middle of the pitch and belted it out for a throw in, it says it all that he’s still playing, his legs have gone, he’s got an attitude problem and that he’s an IQ of a fish

Looks like he’s making the club’s catering staff work unpaid overtime, so maybe it’s that?

To be fair to him, he looked like he gave no fewer fucks (0) than any of the other Mansfield players.
