We shall see on that one. We expected him to leave

Probably want rid but he’s got another year on the contract? If the case that’s daft, should have gone for a year and a option to extend considering his record.

Not much wigge room there - tonnes under contract!

How's Wootton doing? He didn't really show anything on loan with us to suggest he'd be an FL player.

Yeah we've laboured ourselves with some stupid contracts over the past few years.

Wootton is inconsistent but there's something there. We've never played to his strengths though. Incredible in the air but we never seem to cross to him. If we give him a new strike partner who can actually run (Unlike Novak) he could prove to be very good.

I think he more didn't want to play for Northampton. He never wanted to leave us but we couldn't afford what Northampton were offering and he fell out with Alexander.

I wouldn't care if he left though, can't be arsed with him.

Are we signing every ex-macc player?

To be fair Mike Baggeley jumped on this one being a potential this morning. No idea about him or if he would improve us though.

Our retained list has been announced and no-one's been released.

The only 3 remaining players out of contract - Gilks, O'Connor and Habergham - are in discussions.

Well, we do need a LB, and he seems to have a goal or two in him and at 25 he's worth looking at.

Tisdale has said that he felt awful for Mitch as he’s a really nice bloke and a good footballer, but Lewington’s has his best season since 2015 and there was no reason to take him out of the side. He’d do well for someone in this league.

No real complaints from me. As it stands it's a solid enough start IMO, just lacking a bit of pace, mobility and the ability to beat a man in CM and up front.

I'd probably not have offered O'Connor anything for no other reason than we've got Frecklington already under contract and I don't think it's wise to have two 32+ players taking up half of your CM slots.

Habergham might be having to retire yet so we'll see how that one pans out.

15 under contract sounds a lot but not unusual for a DC squad. He seems to trim the bottom 4 or 5 off in a transfer window and replace them so although the squad is changing, they never appear wholesale changes.

I think we'll sell two or three to fund L1 - Andrade and Anderson being the prime ones, especially the former. Wilson will be sold as he nearly left in January anyway and we have Bostwick, Shackell and Bolger. Question marks over Smith if Gilks signs on so that might be another one sold. Pett is one who's rumoured to be attracting interest as well. I'd be amazed if no-one has a sniff around Toffolo, too.

Was he solid?

Always been mistake prone here and never looked comfortable. However, playing alongside donkey McArdle could make Maldini look poor.

A good solid loan period for us, playing either CB or RB/RCB (ish), including a period playing in a mask nursing a broken nose. Had to keep reminding ourselves that he is only 23!
I assume that your run of six defeats brought about his removal from your line-up?

Yeah he was struggling and making a lot of mistakes. Our defense was just as porous when he wasn't playing though so wasn't the main issue.

How did Gomis look?
He looked pretty good when they played, and beat, us a few weeks before the end of the season.

That was his only good game to be fair! He didn’t really look quite ready for first team football to me - certainly nowhere near Tyler Walker etc.

Oh well, at least he had one...I can remember plenty of players who turned out for us and didn't even manage that achievement.

Seriously though, I was impressed with how you played against us and thought you would have enough to avoid the drop. A forward line including Mackail-Smith and Stead should have been good enough to strike fear into many a defence, as they clearly did to ours.

Good luck for next season and, as they say in Scotland, haste ye back!

Very fast but has literally nothing else at all. One good game at FGR but pretty hopeless otherwise.

Alessandra, Hewitt, Brisley, Jones, Milsom and O’Brien would all be useful pick ups for League Two clubs.

Walsall FC can today confirm our retained list following the conclusion of the 2018/19 season.

Out-of-contract players Liam Kinsella and Nicky Devlin have been offered new two-year contracts, while we have exercised our option to extend the contract of Callum Cockerill-Mollett by a further year. As publicised earlier in the year, we have also extended Kory Roberts’ deal as he continues his rehabilitation from a long-term injury.

Joe Edwards, Kieron Morris, Luke Leahy, Jon Guthrie, Zeli Ismail, Chris Dunn, Jordon Sangha, Tobias Hayles-Docherty, Isaiah Osbourne, Cameron Peters and Omar Mussa have all been given free transfers and will leave the club when their contracts expire in June. We would like to thank all outgoing players for their efforts during their time with the Saddlers and wish them well for the future.

Long-serving club captain Adam Chambers remains in discussions with the club about his future both on and off the field.

Joe Slinn, Dan Vann and Dylan Parker have been invited back for pre-season training, while Maz Kouhyar, who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in April, will continue his rehabilitation with the club throughout the summer.

Second-year apprentices Tom Leak and Luke Little have been offered short-term professional deals.
