Holy is a bloody good keeper, especially at this level. He can come home if he likes.
He’s terrible. Look at some of the goals we’ve conceded this season. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a keeper dive as little as Holy.
Think a lot of the links were due to the fact he's from the Cambridge area and was mates with a lot of the youngsters at the club. Now Darling, Knowles, Iron and a few others are gone I'm not sure he knows as many people here.

One of the closest League 1 clubs to Ipswich though so potentially we might be able to nab a couple players they don't want anymore.
Bishop is a good player. Think he’s 24 now but has spent most of his career injured. Burst onto the scene in 14/15 season and played quite a big part in our 6th place finish. Hasn’t kicked on. Only his first season playing 30 games I believe. 76 starts in 7 seasons I think I saw. Bags of potential, would be surprised if we let him go. Lives in Cambridge mind you. Seems a good lad

Some raised eyebrows this morning. Cook has told pretty much the entire playing squad who remain under contract to find new clubs, this includes the likes of Flynn Downes, Andre Dozzell, Luke Woolfenden, Jack Lankester, Armando Dobra, Teddy Bishop, Myles Kenlock, Tomas Holy and David Cornell- plus Kayden Jackson and Toto Nsiala.

Fuck me.
Don’t know how to feel about this. Personally I would only keeps Downes and Bishop. Maybe Woolfenden too. The rest can go. Some are decent players and will go on to do better things. We are massively paying for Paul Hurst’s transfer window. Nsiala, Nolan, Jackson, Donacien, Edwards. Utter dross that hasn’t been let go up until now. Weird times

Paul Cook did the same thing when he came to us back in league two. Adam Webster was the only player he kept on I think. Have faith because he knows what he's doing.

I think part of this process is to completely break with a losing, failing mentality around a squad. Burn it all down and start again. He really brought in some gems as replacements, and didn't break the bank doing it. I'm hoping that the Cowleys do something similar with our squad.

Cowley doesn't have a track record of that, he's one who usually keeps most of the squad and mould them into players he wants, although with no transfer windows in the NL, it's easier to get players in and out during the season.

When he took over Braintree, he offered all 20(?) players who'd finished mid-table new contracts (one year deals down there) and when he came to us he kept most of the squad together as well.

Hoping Adkins does something similar and it's looking like he might.

Chris Powell did it with us in the 11/12 season, completely cleared the squad of perennial losers and started from scratch, cherry picking the best L1 players. I think we brought in about 20 new players that summer and won the league with 101 points.

Only 7 senior players retained for us, we lose Bonham, Ogilvie, Samuel and Graham. Offers expected to come in on a couple of contracted players too.

We go again.

The following players have been released at the end of their contracts:

Alex Addai, Dan Bowry, Tahvon Campbell, Tom Chamberlain, Chris Clements

These players have been offered new contracts:

Scott Flinders, Max Harris, Sean Long

The following loan players have departed at the end of their loans to go back to their parent clubs:

Finn Azaz, Josh Griffiths, Sam Smith, Indiana Vassilev, Callum Wright

Absolutely no surprises at all, Matty Blair has also signed a new 2 year deal as his contract was due to expire.

No news on player contracts yet for us but our CEO for nine years, Mark Catlin is leaving to take up a position in another branch of our holding company, Tornante. We're bringing in Andrew Cullen from MK Dons.

He's been a safe pair of hands on the financial side, but not so great on the manager selection front over the years, with Paul Cook being the only real success.

That's enough boardroom suit news for now I think.

Evatt speaking to the players on Monday. 35 players used over the season, says he doesn't want to stand still. So. expect some comings and goings .
Gethin Jones has been extended I think. I want us to keep Gilks, Baptiste, Isgrove and Brockbank. And probably Adam Senior from the younger lot. I think Tutte, Miller and Gnahoua did ok in spells but we could recruit better. Delaney, Greenidge, Mascoll no chance. I actually liked the look of Hickman in the brief glimpses we got of him but think he will be released. He clearly has talent though.

I think we will try to offload Crawford and I could see a few others being offloaded like Liam Gordon. Then if we can keep Declan John and Afolayan we would have a strong basis for next season with Politic coming back. We can bring in 5 plus loans so I don’t think we would bring in a ton of permanent signings. With the way Evatt tries to play football and geographically I’m sure we could be looking at some decent kids from the Manchester academies, Liverpool Everton etc. Then 3/4 quality permanent signings. I’m pretty excited I can’t lie. Would love to see Zach Clough return on a free. I think he would really suit our way of playing now.

In typical Charlton fashion, we’re finding out who’s been released from the players themselves before any sort of announcement from the club.

Darren Pratley
Andrew Shinnie
Deji Oshilaja

All confirmed they’re leaving, Shinnie and Deji should be picked up by L1 clubs no problem, Pratley too probably if not too many are put off by his age.

Decent but erratic I thought.
Would look good but suddenly go walkabouts or just have a general brain fart.
Wouldn’t be bothered either way to be honest.

Akinde transfer listed as well, perhaps not too surprising. Big wage for a start but I suspect Evans was expecting more out of him than he gives. You're always wanting more from him (albeit he did a job for us in L2).

Evatt said Jones, Gilks, and Baptist offered 1year deals. He is confident that John and Afolayan will be here next season. They would have to be within the wage structure,or he focus on other target s

So, no Paul Cook-style clear out for us. Looks like you were right Luke Imp:

Of the released, the only one that wasn't already obvious (but not surprising) is Andy Cannon. I think the Cowley's probably think we can do better and he's too similar to what we already have. He shouldn't have much trouble finding another club.

Will be interesting to see how many of the "Negotiating" players sign up. I doubt they are being offered big bucks and so some may choose to move on. MacGillivray would be the biggest loss IMHO

How has Gilks done for you? We found him a really calming influence in the short time he was with us in the second half of our L2 title winning season. Not the quickest in getting down to low shots but very commanding otherwise.

Gilks sorted the back line out. With no fans in the ground you could hear him give instructions out.yes if the ball is close him and on the ground he will struggle. Well worth another year, but we need another keeper too push him, and step up when needed.

Nail on the head there Luke. Big John actually had a good 2nd half of the season especially as an impact sub. We started to see the player (for 30 mins) we thought we'd have from the start and for 90 mins. Really put himself about.

But the fact he'd be one of our top earners, you'd have thought we should get more out of him.

I reckon he'd still do a great job in L2, and there will probably be interest from there albeit at a much lower wage.

I heard we enquired about him in January so I wonder if we will make an offer this summer. We need an experienced forward and Akinde seems like a good signing for a team trying to get promoted. However, if his wages are as high as they seem then that may be an issue.

Didn't I read that Exeter were 'going for it' next season? I'd say investing in someone like Akinde would be a good statement of intent.

Kind of yeah. Taylor has been bold enough to say we have the best budget we’ve had for years and he will be adding a number of “difference makers” to the squad. Also, a fair few higher earners have left so we have plenty of room for manoeuvre in the market, but he will have to deliver a squad to finally get over the line.

Agree that Akinde would be a good statement of intent. Have also heard we were in for Billy Bodin but that has its own risks.

Unfortunately he's had it tough with injuries. I'd love him back with us but I think we'll be aiming somewhat lower than Billy sadly. More likely to have to get Paul!!

We’ve released our back up keeper and a youngster. The rest have been offered deals but I don’t expect Mullin or Knoyle to sign.

I’m told Knoyle is off to QPR.

Where do you reckon Mullin will end up? Seen some talk of Vale being in for him, but surely he’ll be L1 minimum...

Akinde takes *a lot* of persuading to move from the south. Took us ages to convince him, although to be fair to him, his worries were centred around his wife and being able to pick a job up for her as a pharmacist.

Rumoured £3k-£3.5k a week when he was here, which is why we've chuckled this season when Evans has spoken about budgets and pleading poverty after signing him from us for a fee!
