Looking likely he'll be off now then. Expect some players to follow.

Ah well, start again.

“I can’t apply because I am at Macclesfield but I am sure if anybody wants me from Wrexham, they know what I have done and I am sure they will be in touch with Macclesfield.

“If Wrexham are interested in me that is where it has got to come form.”

If these are the words he has really said then we need to get this sorted ASAP. If not, and there's always a good chance that anything said has been fabricated a touch, he needs to come out with an official statement on our official website. Looks like he's finally had enough of scraping behind the sofa for spare change to pay players every month, though could have conducted himself better if the above article is completely true.

If it's Askey won't Macc require compensation? I'd rather spend any money we can find on new players.

I doubt Askey has much of a contract in place to be honest.

What, like a month to month one? If so, that would change things a bit.

Not playing billy big bollocks but he would clearly like to join us, just a case of whether we've got someone else in mind.

I think the main reason for having interest is to see what he could do with a bigger budget. If we were able to support him better I doubt he'd be as willing to leave. Most likely just getting to the stage of fed up with no backing so is looking at his options.

People who vote on the Daily Post website are not necessarily Wrexham fans. At least I hope they aren't.

I'm not sure Askey is the answer; yeah, he's doing well, and yeah, it might work out, but isn't this the approach tried the last two times; "Hey, currently/recently successful boss of Conference club with perceived lack of status, have you seen the size of our floodlights?". He'd pretty much have until this time next year to turn everything around before our simpleton element would be on his back and demanding he be sacked, like they were with Mills and Wilkin.

I'd be tempted to go with somebody fresh, maybe with enough Legend Points in the bank to buy himself some extra time before he's labelled "clueless". Possibly twin them with "King of the Turd Polishers" Brian Flynn upstairs, if he's interested/affordable. Dean Keates or Dennis Lawrence would be front-runners, I suppose.

We've tried every approach before tbf..
Promoted from within - Morrell
Someone come through the lower non-leagues and done well - Wilkin
Someone with experience of promotion from conference - Mills

I would be pretty happy if we decided to go for Askey. Don't see much else out there really, Keates (with surely a team around him) is a bit of a gamble, I'd have worries about Craig Harrison who has only managed in the Welsh leagues. Carl Darlington still does a lot of coaching for the FAW doesn't he? So he cannot come here full time. And then Gary Brabin.. I hope we steer well clear.

Is Askey any less of a gamble than Keates? I would imagine there are many variables contributing to his current success; would any of those be in place at Wrexham? Probably very few.

I wouldn't mind Harrison as part of a management team with Darlington, although Harrison on his own may be out of his depth at Wrexham, and would have to hit the ground running otherwise the wolves of Red Passion would rip him to pieces before Christmas.

Either way, nobody knows what would work. At best, it's an educated guess, even for The Board.

Askey is very well paid to be the manager of Macclesfield, contrary to the opinion of most of our fans. I would expect Wrexham would have to pay both MTFC a large amount in compensation, and they would have to pay Askey a very good salary for this level.
As for him leaving, I don't think it would benefit any party - Wrexham, Macc or Askey himself.
Askey would have been sacked at least once in his spell here if it wasn't for his club legend status, and he won't get that sort of generosity at Wrexham.
I think a lot of his success is down to the environment, he does recruit well on a small budget every year, but his tactics often leave a lot to be desired.
Macc would undoubtedly be worse off because on our relatively small budget, and under this current owner, few proven managers would want to manage here.

add in as well an ex premier league manager (Little) and an ex International player with coaching experience (Saunders)

WPL does seen the only avenue not tapped at the moment

local rag today has an interview with one of our directors, says that the shortlist we have is a mixture of internal applicants (Keates), managers currently with a club (Harrison??) and people who have managed before

i honestly dont know if Askey is on the list - with him coming out to say that he would not be applying for a job and would have to be approached then i cant see us actively pursuing him

the director also said we had a fair few applicants who were OVER qualified.... work that one out

no mention of how many are on the list but they hope to have it sorted as soon as

I don't think Askey is in the running. As you say, he hasn't applied so he won't be on the shortlist of applications that the new manager will supposedly be chosen from.
