Keates is new wrexham manager

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Possibly the 'Cheap option' but I think it's the right option. A lot depends on who he has around him though, as we learnt with Morrell a young manager needs a bit of support from a more experienced head.

I'm a bit sceptical but it's been said for years how Keates was management material in the making so let's hope he proves he's cut out for it. Respected in the game by most football fans because he was a superb professional in the way he conducted himself but it's important now that he surrounds himself with good staff. But he can only work with what he currently has, which is a very poor squad.

Thank fuck this saga's all over with now.

I still expect you to be back in for Askey in the summer.

Keates will probably do well but not sure he'll do well enough to help you push for playoffs, especially with your squad the way it is.

Yep don't see us climbing the table much higher at all with the current squad.. Hopefully with Keates being the 'cheap option' and York looking like paying for Caskey, he has a bit of money to bring in a player or two.
Very interested to see who joins the backroom staff now.

Mark Creighton to make his 50th return?

Key trouble maker under Kevin Wilkin (allegedly), which makes the appointment feel a bit off for me. Contributed to getting rid of a manager and now takes his seat. Cheapo option, but that doesn't bother me too much at this point. Mills was the expensive option. No chance we are getting the playoffs, but should he do okay, and we extend his contract, the big unknown and risk comes in the summer when he'd have to build an entirely new squad.

EDIT: hmmm so he's got 18 months. Definitely not sure about that.

Is he the shortest manager in non league?

Wilkins negative tactics are inability to beat North Ferriby despite being 2 nil up led to him getting the boot.

Yeah I know, Wilkin gave the impression of a man out of his depth, I think he never quite felt comfortable and confident as our manager and that translated onto the pitch. But I'm certain it would have helped had all the players followed the example of someone like Moult and just done their jobs, rather than undermining him.

It was only right that we went for a really short manager again though. We've tried every other height of gaffer since we've been down here with no luck.

He's Brian Flynn for the 2010s.

Now he needs to find someone who plays like him but is 15 years younger and we are all set.

Look at all this discussion. This is happening because we are a BIG EX LEAGUE TEAM. We are kind of a big deal.

Dean Keates is 4cm taller than Brian Flynn

Make sure you come back to this thread about 2.49pm tomorrow for another interesting Dean Keates fact

So who will be the first manager to bite the bullet in 2017. Mark Cooper's name must be amongst the bookies favs having seemingly lost the dressing room. Could be a bit of a kerfuffle at the New Lawn if they fail to beat Torquay!

I'm going for Martin Allen scuttling back to Barnet before he's booted out in about mid-February, because Eastleigh are in freefall atm and the next few games include a lot that they should win, but on current form won't (Guiseley, Braintree and Sutton would have held no fear for them early season, but I can see them drawing a blank against all 3 tbh)

Maidstone manager or Garry Hill? Maybe Nicholson, but that'd be more down to the new owners I imagine.

Everyone else is either newly appointed or pretty stable.

We'd be fools to get rid of Saunders, without him we'd still be in the Ryman South. He's massively overachieving even getting us promoted in the first place.

Would be hilarious trying to see the Board sack Hill given how they crumble under any sort of FAN PRESSURE.

Our board: "Garry you're sacked"
Hill: "No, YOU'RE sacked"

There's no point in getting rid of him anyway. He'll be leaving in the summer, so we might as well save the money. We'll go down next season with less points than Hyde if we manage to survive. It would just be delaying the inevitable if we stayed up.

Just read this Sparrow attempt at a wind-up.

I doubt anyone here has ever mentioned Askey as a potential manager. He'd be on an even smaller budget than he is now.

One of the relegation candidates will panic at some point in the next couple of months and make a sacking. Have Southport been through their full quota of managers for a season yet?

As for Hill, wasn't he the greatest manager in non-league last season?

Yeah Dawes isn't going anywhere this season. If we struggle in the Conference South next year he'll be in trouble though.

To be honest with how hes handled this season* i can see him having a very short leash next season.

*Totally underestimated the step up from the South to National by keeping all our squad from last season
*Summer recruitment wasn't good enough - Only summer signing who's been decent has been Lokko
*Most of our signings since the season started haven't been good enough
*Constant hoof ball tactics to midget forwards....hasn't worked all season but we still continue doing it anyway :ffs:
*The whole Joe Healy shambles!! an experienced manager wouldn't of put off signing midfielders we desperately needed (Jay even admitted it himself, we missed out on players who would of signed because he promised Healy a space in the team) for a player who went off on holiday for 2-3 months

I like Saunders, but so far hes shown to be way out of his depth at this level

Usually our second manager of the season doesn't get sacked, they just walk out. I'm hoping we're done for this season (and the next few seasons!) in terms of managerial changes.

Would Barnet want Allen back again already though?

Of course. They are the battered wives of football "he's lovely when he hasn't had a drink!"

So far our caretaker duo are doing perfectly well. I think the fact that Allen has gone to an inferior club this time with it nakedly being about the money should make it a final break between him and us.

Can see a number of Conference North Managers losing their jobs soon. Weaver, even Nicky Law!?
Add Billy Heath to that considering a shit league position, shit results and loud 'Heath out' chants against Telford and darlo, completely out of his depth.
